I'm sorry about chick 2. It's terrible when they die so little, or at all. I hope the biggest one is a toughy...he should do really well getting all mummies food and attention. :nest:

Mine get seed, veggies, sometimes fruit and sometimes egg food with a cuttlebone available constantly.

I'm sure the 2nd bub will be fine, they always seem to wriggle around the box then get sleepy so just sit by themselves for a while, mummy bird usually nudges back to the others.

I love your reasons for choosing names!!
  5. They're so pretty!! Thanks for posting those Javi!!

CONGRATULATIONS!! I bet you're over the moon!

Can't help you there cause i've never actually seen a baby hatch.
  8. I don't think it does. It's just the colour most normal variety (not pied, ino) get. They can't ALL carry cinnamon.
  9. Well perhaps the feet should get checked out by a vet if they look sore but everything else is normal. A lot of budgies have that coloured beak and skin.
  10. Are we going for a baby theme in BOTM?? Well done Shelley! That's a beautiful photo! :oliveb:
  11. Is this the colours you're talking about? The undersides of the feet are more pinky than the top aswell.
  12. What? I thought that males had translucent pinky purple ceres as babies and girls had pinky blue with white rings around nostrils?

    Fingers are crossed!!

You can check them at about 5 days and then double check a few days later.
  15. Welcome! Glad you joined!! Please post some pics of your pets if you can.
  16. Well it's more mum, she hates her house being filled with birds. (just had to share that Blinks is holding my nose right now preening it )
  17. I can't really. I'm feeling really down about this whole breeding thing. Nothing seems to be going right. Another of Buzz's eggs was missing this morning but she laid another one this arvo. There's been no more fighting either, thank god. I think maybe Gherkin is getting rid of the eggs, could he know they're not fertile or maybe Buzz isn't mating with him and he wants her to so destroys her current eggs? I don't know. I wish budgies were ageless, then Razzo could breed again.
  18. How old is the bub now?

I can just imagine your hubby's face!! :(Laughing out loud):
  21. Well the only other place i would be allowed to have them would be outside and i don't feel comfortable checking the bubs (if i ever get any) if the parents could escape.

Great tips Rach!! ....now, if only i weren't so lazy.
  23. Nope, more fighting!! I've changed things around again. Sandy and Lilly are now in the breeding cage instead of Pat and Akala. I think Sandy and Gerri were fighting last night, Gerri came out worst so she's inside at least for tonight for observation. She's now a red and white budgie. Some cuts on her toes, wings and she seems to have the equivelant of a black eye in humans. I've cleaned her up as best i could and there doesn't seem to be any deep cuts. *sigh* Who'd have budgies?

If anyone is interested i made a batch today and amazingly Blinkie dived right into it!! He NEVER tries new things!! It seems it was a hit with all my birds!!
