I don't think i've ever really noticed carrots with the greens still attatched. My breeding birds are on a carrot eating frenzy whenever i put carrot in the cages. I give them a third of a carrot and it's gone soooo fast and the only evidence that it was ever there is the bright orange faces all the birds have! Me and Blinkie are much more tidy when we eat carrot.

Blinkie loves his bells i think cause he can see the warped budgie reflection but he also plays with his other toys so i'm not too worried, he's also not posessive of them so if he's having so much fun and is happy i don't see the point in removing his favourite toys.
  3. Well i, knowing nothing about show budgies, think that sounds very smart and technical!! :(Laughing out loud):

I don't leave a mirror in Blinkie's cage but he has one on his play gym. He loves throwing it around and pushing it off tables so i really think he sees it as a toy. With the big mirrors in my room where he can see his whole body reflected back, i think he sees that as another budgie.

Trill is great in my opinion. I feed it to both my aviary budgies and Blinkie but Blinkie gets the mix with more types of seed in it. Any seed mix regardless of brand needs to be supplemented with other fresh foods so i think Trills good cause it's got several different seeds aswell as those little nutrivit crumbles.

That's really great that she's in good health!!

He's probably a bit scared but at 5 weeks i would be offering wet egg and bisciut mix (you can get that from pet shops) and millet on the floor of the cage. Now would also the time to introduce veggies so some grated apple and/or carrot as well as things like brocolli and spinach would be good. I would also put a shallow dish of seed on the floor of the cage because i know that when Blinkie was that age he spent a lot of time running around the floor instead of sitting on perches.

You also asked if Albert being shy would affect his daddy skills. I doubt it, Lilly was super shy in the aviary but he's the best little daddy.

I always thought the stalk was best too.

The scratching and rubbing head on the bars i would think is pretty normal. My budgie does that especially if he's moulting. However, the change in personality seems a bit off and could be an early sign that she's feeling a bit low. It's great that you're going to be in contact with your vet as that is what everyone here will suggest, take her to a vet. You know her best so if you think she's not herself then a trip to the vet is a very good idea. In the meantime just keep her warm. Hope she's alright.

Well i agree with gathering information first but i personally didn't. I've learned most of what i know about breeding budgies through experience except i can see why being able to see problems if they occur is necessary and if i was to start again i would have read up first. Having said that, no amount of research can prepare you for the actual experience...it's like saying "here's a book on how to ride a horse, read this cover to cover then jump on and go", the fact that you've learnt the theory doesn't necessarily mean it'll work or that you're any less likely to fall off or make a mistake. It comes with experience. That's my opinion anyway, somewhere between the two.
  18. Just so people know, there are 2 dominant pieds in the 4 pics up there.

Not working for me now. It keeps coming up with an error.
  20. Poo

Bea replied to a post in a topic in Health Questions and Tips
Blinkie very occasionally plays with a poo if i leave one on my laptop. He doesn't eat them though.

  22. I emailed Trill once complaining that the statement "Complete Budgie Food" was false and they just stated that it was nutritionally complete.
  23. "and perhaps a piece of cuttlefish to nibble" STUPID!
