You will find almost all of Rita's birds are sweet natured and easily handled They must take after their owner Actually the hens are really friendly too - not quite so gentle with the bites, but ALOT softer than the other hens I have. Thanks JB!!
  2. I have not acchieved the level where anyone would want to hear what I have to say It doesn't matter if you haven't reached the same type of breeding achievements as some of the other breeders. They have had more years breeding birds than you. And 50 billion times more than me (i e none ) But gosh look at what you've accomplished in the time you have been breeding your birds! You have winners, you have people in other states wanting your birds, you have your line of greywings who are wow! I don't think it should matter whether you've been breeding budgies for 50 years, or 5. Breeding is breeding, we all do it in different ways, accomplish different things and we all take notes from each other. You're a breeder, you have some gorgeous birds and you've inspired me, with all your help and information, pictures and laughs. I say you should do an interview *nod nod*
  3. HAHAHAHA JB!! sorry I found that comment hilarious  Looking at the prices of the birds for this auction, makes me wonder what the prices for the other auction will be

I know you've moved the perches around, but I think they may still foul water and food containers. Your top perches still hang above the containers. With that cage I can see it would be hard to place the perches so the birds still have room to move, you're doing well though! Maybe you could use different feed containers that hang onto the front and backs of the cage? That way you wouldn't need to move any of the perches at all? It looks good

I have tried to get some new photos of my little violet cock today. I wanted to see if I could get photos with his vibrant colour. I did a bit better. I had to remove him from the holding cage he was in and I placed him in my patio aviary which isn't actually in my patio, so it has shade cloth on it to cool it down on the hot days just like the big aviary One of the hens placed a love bite on his cere not sure which one as neither hen has a mark on her. Picture of him still in the holding cage - before his minor incident EDIT: FORGOT THE picture whoops In his new aviary - he seemed quite pleased with it. Colour still didn't come out right you can see his love bite from one of the hens I managed to get the colour better here. And his love bite. He is a lovely boy - very gentle and friendly
  6. Is he maybe a Clearflight Dommie pied Spangle? Or a Dommie Pied Spangle? HAHA maybe I have Spangle brain so it I think it is spangle when it is something else. I'm just guessing
  7. Where's yours Kaz? Send me a blank one and I can send it back to you to fill out
  8. Getting some brilliant and very useful information from these interviews - thanks heap!!

we need to make up printed t-shirts to advertise the forum... That would be a great way to advertise amongst current budgie enthusists... Maybe we could make that a comp on here, 2010 design for tops. That's not a bad idea, advertising the forum. Warren Wilson sent me over the Auction catalogue and the BRASEA Summer bulletin for me to ponder over which was lovely of him - I was thinking maybe we could advertise the forum in the BRASEA Bulletin? As it's apparently the only bulletin that gose to ALL budgie clubs in Australia, I figured that would work well - gets the forum name out there and what its about? I'd be happy to pay the cost for that if a moderator was able to okay it? What do you all think?

You're welcome Mr President Yes I am pleased - I've been saving a bit of money each fortnight since January for these hens. Not a long time, I know, but long enough for me not to inconvenience such lovely people. I was after a sky, cobalt or blue - Rita contacted me about these two, and I couldn't pass them up. okay so they're not blue but they are a great addition and young too so I have a few years breeding with them Oh Gosh Kaz she is a lovely person - Rolf is too - he was there as well. Charlize took to Rita like a duck to water haha she needed a little bit of encouragement to get closer to Rolf They were very accommodating - bringing out the grandchildren's toys for Charlize to play with. Yes both hens have alot of Opaline going through them. Now I can go and see and speak to Irene I didn't want to go to see her, find a great bird and get it, when I still had Rita's hens to pay for and pick up. Rita had been so kind holding them for me. I forgot to mention - she is giving me two breeding cages she no longer wants I am very lucky and a little bit awed that she is doing so. I got all embarrassed about it as I am a giver not a taker. I know I can return the favor to her one day and to you too Kaz so that make's it better to accept. Thanks GB They look so much better than they do in the pictures and the violet - gosh that was a WOW factor from me the moment I spotted him. He looks almost neon and its quite a deep violet blue. He sort of stood out quite alot amongst the whites, grey greens, yellows, greys and blues. Rita said he was a bit small for her liking, but would be great for me to start out and especially to trial colours with variety and size and stance Can't wait but have to.

Noo not Irene Kaz, not yet I haven't. I went to see Rita and Rolf Posthuma yesterday and had the best time. Picked up my two hens she was holding for me. I had been saving for awhile and now I was finally able to get them AND gave me a colourful surpise too. They have some wonderful birds and a brilliant aviary and birdroom, oh and the yard *sigh* trees everywhere, space, fresh air. Wow. My daughter, who is two and a half, came too and she had an absolute ball. Rita let her sit in the suspended flight of the junior flight and placed a small bowl of seed down so they budgies could come down close and one almost sat on Charlize's foot We were able to see the breeders, and the breeding cabinets oh and gosh all the little babies - roaming in age from newly hatched pinkie to fluffy down to pin feathers to almost fully featherd. They were sooooo cute. Kaz I saw the gorgeous Yellow Faced Sky Cock Rita got from you - his babies are just gorgeous! Anyway I am guessing by now you'd like to see pictures....sorry too bad, no pics available! hahahahhaa just kidding. The birds didn't pose as well as I'd have liked but these were the best I could do seeing as they were more interested in the new branches I placed in their cage Grey Spangle Hen Grey Green Spangle Hen My colourful surprise - young Violet Normal Cock not the best photos of him, shall try and get some more. Still has some growing to do but his colour is great - camera doesn't show it very well. Grey Hen and Violet Cock All three

There are some great sounding birds listed. I particularly like two hens Never been to an Auction nor have much of an idea about what goes on. I'd like to learn though

Both these flights at the moment have six budgies in each side. As it is not anywhere near ready for breeding, I am happy to let the birds relax and enjoy flying and enjoying each other's company. When the birdroom is added, and the third flight is attached everything may or maynot change. The third flight will be the babies/junior flight. The first and second, i'm still deciding whether to have: mixed cocks and hens hens one side and cocks the other breeders in one and non breeders in the other Junior flight graduates in one side and adults in the other OR have one side for the retirement home Even as Old timers, past their use by date I know they will be beneficial - maybe there will be an older hen who will quite happily foster some babies for other hens who can't cope well, or there may be an older cock who decides he can keep up with a maiden hen and teach her. Who knows? I don't want breed any of the birds until i' 100% satisfied I can provide for them and the aviary is done :raincloud:

Hi Mark, As stated by Kaz, I bought this from a fellow forum member. I have seen panels in the Bird and Fish Place in Wattle Grove, and you can get the mesh and metal frame work from places like Bunnings. HOWEVER - I found it to be cheaper to buy one prefabricated and modify it or ideally a shed and modify it - there weren't any sheds around in my price range. I don't have pavers underneath mine - just a concrete pad, but I want to change that as it is very uneven and I can guarantee rain will come in underneath. I'm looking at placing 60cmx60cm pavers ontop of the concrete (dumb i know) so when water does trickle underneath - the water goes straight under the pavers rather than on the ground where the birds can get to it. I'm not sure a slide out tray would be easy to deal with would it? Pulling out 2.8m of metal doesn't sound easy and convenient to me. BUT nothing saying you can't try and tell us how it goes It may work really well. Do you have a picture of where you're looking at placing the aviary? Perth Gumtree is a great website that has heaps of aviaries on it. That's where I purchased this one from. It's 2670L Including safety area) x1900Hx1900D Which I am now modifying to become an "L" shaped aviary (I have a second aviary to attach to it) and the 90 degree right angle section will be my birdroom :raincloud: To understand better, go through my aviary thread JimmyBanks, sorry I don't know what the aviary brand is, though I can find out for you So I don't hijack Marks thread, I'll answer your other questions on my thread

Hi, welcome to the forums What makes you think she is "pregnant"? Does she have egg bum? Or did you see her mating? Not all matings end up with eggs - budgies do have recreational sex, so maybe she's just been having a good time As GB said, not dumb, just not informed of the ways of budgie breeding, we all start somewhere and we all make mistakes. That's how we learn. At least your little hen is 9 months and not younger - some babies breed much much earlier and that is no good. Ideally they should be at least a year old to breed - that way they have less issues. In regards to your questions - the parents feed the babies so you will need to supply mum and dad with seed, fresh vegies and some fruit (eg: corn, broccoli, carrot, celery leaves, apple, beetroot, spinach). BUT as you weren't prepared for this breeding, maybe it's a better idea to not let it continue i.e remove nest box and let budgie lay egg off the perch, then discard the egg. Hopefully she will get the idea to stop laying and go back to normal. When you ARE ready to breed properly you will have all the information from this forum to help you Good luck with whatever you decide you'd like to do

They are great! I love the bag! I recommend placing them on ebay with a basic starting price, and see how much they go for - that way, you can see what members of the public/people interstate/overseas will pay :raincloud: OR try weekend markets ooh AND maybe take them along to budgie clubs that you're a member of and display them, and get some interest in them that way I have been doing drawings and paintings too, late at night when I can't sleep. Makes me relaxed and tired
