  1. Pleased to say that the babies have suitable homes lined up for them. I do have my parents support and enough room to keep all of them but dad is worried about inbreeding. I am going to hopefully upgrade my cage into an aviary over the next year.
  2. okay, no need to worry, Marigold laid the egg off the perch. I put it in the box but I have doubts it will hatch. She is now being a good mother and is incubating them both.
  3. I have enough room to keep them then I was going to not breed until later next year so I could upgrade the cage. Dad wants me to in case of inbreeding. He doesn't know that they probably won't without a nest box which I would not provide. Sorry if this makes no sense. Marigold still hasn't passed the egg as far as I can see.
  4. I meant cages, supplies ect.
  5. I'm getting worried now.. Marigold hasn't passed the second egg. She is not showing any signs of egg binding but it is 5 past 6!
  6. Great! I've just found a shop that sell special budgie hand rearing formula and I probably need to learn as I only have one pair.
  7. There is a sale in Hamilton, I might have a look at that. Mind you, I don't expect to be buying something as I am keeping my money for any vet trips...
  8. Having a tall one doesn't matter, as long as it is massive! Here is mine.
  9. I had to change my vegies twice yesterday... but today I gave them extra so they are fine.
  10. My first chick took two days to hatch, robyn. I thought it was dead in shell for sure, but then.... So, did it hatch?
  11. I have spied with my little eye a perfect cage for Dude. It is the one with about 60cm across and 45cm high. AND they sell them in our hardware store for $35! I just have to convince my parents to let me buy it with my own money. It would make a good hospitaal cage or quarrantine cage for us as our old one broke and it wasn't suitable ( got sucked in by pet shop owners)anyway.
  12. Awwww, that is so cute!
  13. What does barren mean?
  14. Who are the slackers?
  15. Uh... Jimmy? Cocks don't lay eggs!
  16. okay... I took a picture of the egg for you.
  17. I have let Marigold and Skye have a go at rearing some more. Marigold has had egg bum for days and when I got back from school today there was an egg in the box. The egg was still wet so she must have laid it very recently. Hopefully Marigold and Skye will be just as successful as last time. I'll keep you updated!
  18. I had a mouse problem, I found one one night in the seed dish. But my cage is off the ground? I sorted that one out though. My cage is all wire and that wasn't a problem for me with drafts.
  19. okay time for an update. Marigold is getting egg bum and she goes into the box for long periods of time. She has this thing about which nest box she uses. I've tried her with the usual one breeders use, but she is terrified of them! I think she doesn't like low roofs. Last time she laid in a normal one, just so it was higher than taller and on an angle. Trouble with that is I have to check on the eggs by a torch from the kitchen, go round the back of the cage or open the cage door and look. It worked out fine last time and they trust me to do that. Just means I don't have to disturb the eggs/chicks.
  20. Poor Kaz, too late to back out now I'm afraid.
  21. Sorry, I meant the green tail.
  22. I've just been told that it is normal for a light green.
  23. Marigold is pretty hard to impress too. Trust me. I'd let her go with the ring-in.
  24. Uh oh! Oh won't tell Skye that Skye is a common name. How many are showing fertile?
  25. Ha ha ha! Maybe she's shy...
