Believe it or not I've seen scaly mite worse than that. The mites were completely covering the head and shoulders. I told them to go to a vet.

    He might be sick?

He's not sick, not visually anyway. They are all pretty healthy, I check them everyday for signs of illness, weight loss, poos, crops, feathers ect. Thimble ( female ) acts like a male as well, trying to mount Skye, though that could be a sign of dominance. In my flock, the males nibble the females, then the females preen them. I hope he's not sick.

Lexi feeds Chubba Chubs, I have heard females don't do the motion of bobbing heads and regurgitating unless feeding chicks? They act like a bonded pair ( not breeding them though!!) but Lex does all the work preening and feeding wise. Do females usually do that?
  5. If it is the one on the end greywing maybe?
  6. It worked at first but they were starting their moult. It wasn't done correctly anyway.
  7. Yellow face type 1 sky blue I think. Can't see much of the budgie though. I would say she is about 4-6 months old.
  8. Female. Why would other people say male, Squeak? The orange could be her cere changing.
  9. 3 of my budgies have their wings clipped to slow them down. It doesn't work! The only one who is willing to stay on the floor and have cuddle time is Lexi ( without tempting treats ). Marigold and Skye are fully flighted, and I am pretty sure it is going to stay that way. When the chick's wing's grow back, I'm going to leave them flighted.
  10. Oh, I didn't mean that! I know how much you care from just reading this thread. That just came out wrong. What I actually meant was, did you have somewhere to put him, like a retirement aviary you mentioned?
  11. What are you going to do with him?

I do not have mirrors either. Don't trust what the pet store says, check it out on here.
  13. Carrot tops are one of my budgie's favourites! They were the first greens they ate and the chicks grew up on them.

Wow! I'm going to have an aviary like that one day..... maybe. All I have to do is convince mum and dad and save up!

Quarantine is for at least 30 days. Good luck with him! Try veggies with him, he might be used to them.
  16. Thanks! They are ready to go back outside today after I clean out the cage and make another feeding platform. They had full crops last night when I went to bed. I have a few more dishes that I disinfected. I am cuddeling Lex at the moment.

    Awwwww.

Awww! Remember quarantine! He is opaline, not spangle and yellow face type 1 I think. I can't tell from the pics about the violet though.
  19. Thankyou! I haven't kept this many birds through the winter outdoors before. I'll double their food now!
  20. I got back from school today and my budgies were fluffed up on the perch, not moving about. This has come on in the past few days, triggered by the decrease in temperature I think, I actually had them in the hospital cage until mum put them back in while I was at school. Yesterday I realised I was short of seed and told mum to get some ( not her fault ) but she didn't. Today I got a load of seed for them and they were starved. About 5 days ago I made a hospital cage for them ( I get 'feelings' when something is going to happen, weird) and I've set it up. They are in it now with seed, water, a warm lamp and hotwater bottle and a dark bit with not as much heat and light. They have been recovering ever since they warmed up but I am still wary. I think it is the cold, there is no other symptom and they are still eating/drinking/playing. I won't be able to get to a vet until Monday now and I have no local avian vet. I think it will start to get warmer soon and this is as cold as it gets. What do you guys think? They are pretty healthy apart from this, except Marigold is maybe a bit overweight ( everyone excuses her as she does have a large frame ). They are doing well at the moment and are almost back to normal. I am very worried though.
  21. Mine get gum flowers as part of their usual diet and gum branches and leaves. They love chewing on them.
  22. Male. Males CAN have brown ceres. It is a health problem I understand.

    Male I think.
  24. I think rickets is deformations caused by calcium deficiency.
