  1. Thanks again!
  2. It would probably be big enough. It would be bigger if I turned it over onto it's side. I'll get a picture of it turned over. Might turn it over now. It is an old useless cage that was too tall. So I took the bottom off, pushed it against a wall on it's side ( so it is still tall but wide ). I read that taking the eggs away might encourage her to lay more?
  3. Yes, I have. Only it's blocked on her home computer for some reason. She thought ( before I corrected her ) that it was because she gave them carrot.
  4. A friend of mine recently got given a pair of male budgies ( four months ago ) from the school. I helped educate her on what a budgie actually needs diet wise and quarantine, and, though I think she got bored listening to me drone on , she listened. Anyway, a couple of months later she got given a breeding pair from a breeder for her to breed . She listened to me and what I said about quarantine. Anyway, she took them all to her vet ( not in the same car ). The vet put all of her budgies in TOGETHER. This was about a week into quarantine. She thought nothing of it, because the VET knew better. And now what does she find? For a week the two males have been puffed up and listless. Then she found one dead. She took the other to the vet, which I am concerned about as she isn't an avian vet. She thinks all will be well because they have gone to a vet, so she is getting 2 more birds. I hope she remembers what I said about quarantine. AND she is STILL planning on breeding her birds! I have offered on taking in the other male, but I doubt my parents would let me. She is going to write all their symptoms down to relate to you guys. She is desperate and so am I. When the school was getting rid of those budgies, I offered to take them but my friend got there first. Thanks in advance, I really need your help! I'm going to print off some disease sheets and quarantine proceedures for her.
  5. Thanks Finnie. She didn't lay any in the hospital cage at all, I was surprised at that. I put her back after a while. She seemed fine. I'm actually not sure on what triggered her to breed in the first place, though. Maybe it was the rain fall? I'm not expecting an egg for a couple of days. What happens if any eggs are fertile and she sits?
  6. Poos are massive
  7. I noticed that Marigold's abdomen was looking enlarged. I felt it and, sure enough, it was squishy ( just like before ). I've separated her and put her in the hospital cage. I don't want her attacked again, the feathers on her head are just growing back! How can I stop her laying again? I have no nestbox inside the cage, nor in the budgie's views. The cage environment is changed around 1-3 times per week and the daylight hours are still very short. What is causing her to lay ( assuming she is eggnant, but I am confident )? The hospital cage is very open, no places to nest. Her poos so far are slightly larger than normal. I have noticed before that they get really big about 1-2 days before laying. Her poos are normal colour. So, how do I stop her? Thanks in advance.

I've read somewhere that they don't hatch sometimes because they get really brittle?
  11. Maybe a small gum tree or fruit tree that is edible for budgies.
  12. I'm sorry to hear of this. Ommie was a great hen.

    Thank you, just being cautious.

I just got some bok choy plants that are at the flowering stage. I was wondering whether the flower is okay for them or if I'd have to snip the flowers off. Thanks in advance.

Let her have a long, 6 month rest. Other members can help out here more than me.

Oops, sorry. I only had a brief glance at the picture.

I think the green is female, the df spangle ( yellow ) is male.
  18. Oops, sorry :)
  19. Who was the breeder Zig? Because a breeder told me the same thing about quarantine and sold me two sick birds. All of my flock died except for Marigold.
  20. Did they all hatch!? That is one grumpy hen.
  21. I would say he is also spangle. Other than that, I'm not very good at recognizing mutations.

An avian vet is one who specializes in just birds. I went to a non-avian vet once and they let the poor budgie out in the waiting room while a cat was there. She died. RIP Boofer..

I wash mine then leave for a few days to dry. Then I scrape the top layer off.
