  10. Well it's a dark and dreary, raining morning in Brisbane... :yellowhead: Just went out with a torch and pulled the clear plastic over the side of the avairy that will get wet in the rain to keep it nice and dry.... We still only have 1 chick, I rolled it over very gently and it looks to have food in its crop, will check again this afternoon when I get home from work... So far so good....
  11. Thanks C_S_B! Yes I will, I am very curious as well... :yellowhead:
  12. This is who I have paired up today.... Austin - DEC cock And Cindy Dom pied hen - not sure if she is split recessive witch is what I need for more DEC's but my first few breeding pairs will be a learning curve for me...I did get a split recessive in my last purchase of birds but she is in quarantine for a while and these 2 seemed to have paired up in the avairy so I will see how it goes...
  13. She seemed to spend a lot of time out of the cage today.....trying not to be to concerned.. Will chack again first thing in the morning.....
  14. Cool...thanks Liv, guess I will be getting a little garden organized !
  15. So then once it sprouts Liv, you then pick it and give it to the birds?
  16. I was wondering what all the breeders do with thier left over seed from the seed containers in the avairy? I change water and blow off the husks daily and change every other day and I am finding that I am putting too much good seed in the bin....I don't like to waste? Any thoughts?
  17. Thanks Pearce and M6B, Well ckick number 1 was hatched sometime last night, checked the box around 7am and we have 1 chick, I was a bit concerned as it had no food in it's crop, I checked again about half an hour ago and I think now she looks fine...... I have misplaced the artical Kaz wrote on Looking after chicks in the nest, if someone has it or knows where the link is, can they please post it for me?
  18. Oh little treasure .......Good on you Shannon for taking her to the vet and getting it amputated, will she be able to do most things Shannon? Do they adapt to having one leg?

Well I picked up 3 more birds today, purchased again off DrNat and as always, they are beautiful, healthy stocky birds.... I have a pair of Yellow face Violets - split recessive .... these 2 are a bonded pair so I have set them up in a seperate breeding cage while they are in quarantine. And I have a Cinnamon Violet clearflight dominant pied - split recessive, she I hope will help me with my breeding of more DEC's....
  21. Well she tossed out another egg today, it was very light...felt empty. I was going to dispose of it anyway as it was dented, so I opened it....it had like a small amount of like egg yolk in a skin....? So there are 4 eggs left, I think my calculations were a bit off when I posted last time, I'd say if the 2 eggs that she has tossed out are not the first ones laid she should have a chick any hour now, as the first egg was laid on the 12/08/09.
