  1. She is beautiful!
  2. Okay. All I want is to have variety. I don't want to end up with a bunch of normal budgies, not that they are bad.. I love them I just want variety. So if someone could please give me their opinions I'll appreciate it very much. I want to have an idea of what I could get if I pair who with who and which would be my best options.. Thanks. Here is my flock: They are still young but they will all be ready next year. The youngest is 3 months old and the oldest is 9 months old. Hens: Snowflake: Albino Sky: YF1 or YF2 Skyblue Recessive Pied Nixie: YF2 Cobalt Opaline Fiona: Normal Dark Green Cocks: Oliver: Grey-Green Opaline Jasper: Normal Skyblue (he is looking more skyblue now after he moulted) Louie: Light Green Recessive Pied Sonny: Goldenface Cobalt Dominant Pied (his face is looking brighter now after he finished his moult) Jasper is my youngest and Sky is my oldest.. hope these pictures are good, -Corina
  3. I have a flock of eight. They will be ready to breed next year and I'd like to know which pairs would be best. Which pairs would produce the most stunning budgies? and could you please tell me what would be the outcome of each pair? I don't know if they are split for anything.. if they are, the surprises will be nice Hens: -Albino -YF1 Skyblue(possibly violet) Recessive Pied -YF2 Cobalt Opaline -Normal Dark Green Cocks: -Light Green Recessive Pied -Grey-Green Opaline -Goldenface Cobalt Dominant Pied -Normal Skyblue Thanks, Corina
  4. wow that is a very beautiful budgie!
  5. What does it exactly mean when a normal budgie has a spot on the back of its head? I read somewhere that it meant it had a pied gene? if so is it a dominant gene or recessive? Thanks, -Corina
  6. Thank you Linda_S and Pearce I understand perfectly now, Pearce's explanation was very easy to understand the first one kinda gave me a headache lol and also thanks to KAZ and Neville for posting the articles
  7. I've really been wondering how the dark factor works.. So I you pair a light green budgie (no dark factor) with a Dark green budgie (1 dark factor) will there be any light green chicks? or will they all be dark green? what about pairing a budgie with 2 dark factors with a budgie with 1 dark factor and so on? Thanks, Corina
  8. Cinnamon is very pretty and yea it gets pretty depressing watching them jump all over the cage like that and trying to get out when they hear the other birds.. all my birds have gone trhough that but it is rewarding when you wait for the quarantinte to be over and introduce them at the proper time. It makes you happy to see them happy and to know that you did the right thing.
  9. Thank You So I have two cobalts and Is Sky a skyblue violet then? or just cobalt as well? and about Nixie, I was a bit confused because her yellow is brighter than my YF1 and not as bright as my goldenface. Yellowface Type 2 then ..and I guess I'll have to wait until I breed them to be completely sure about their mutations..
  10. So this is my new girl Nixie: Right now I'm thinking she is a Goldenface skyblue or cobalt violet opaline? She has a very purple tinge around her vent, feet and tail feathers and her belly color is neither skyblue or cobalt so that makes me think she is a violet, I would say cobalt violet? And again.. Jasper: I've been doing some research on violets and I'm almost sure he is also a violet even though he looks different than Sky (My YF1 skyblue violet recessive pied hen, next to Jasper..) What are your opinions? I'm a bit confused (as always).

I was wondering.. What kind of plants in Colorado are safe for budgies? I'd like to get some plants or trees to put in their cage but I have no idea what is safe. I've never seen eucalyptos I don't even know whay they look like.. maybe we have them here and I don't know.. can someone post some pictures of safe plants like eaucalyptos and silverbeets.. plants that are safe.. since I have no idea what they look like and maybe we do have them here with different names?.. Thanks, Cory
  12. They are both girls :hap:

This is my new girl and the last of my flock With 8 budgies my flock is now complete.. I decided to make it a flock of 8, that way I can breed two pairs at a time. She was kind of an unexpected budgie.. I told myself: "The last girl has to be a spangle.. nothing but a spangle" ..Since spangle is my favorite wing mutation and I don't have one! So I went to the petstore to get some crickets for my uncle's Emperor Scorpion (eww). And as always I couldn't resist looking at the budgies, I thought: "Maybe that spangle girl is here at last!".. But no spangles.. then I saw a flash of color running around like crazy! I was like wow that girl is just like Oliver! So full of energy! and beautiful too. Then I realized she was also an opaline and a really big one as well.. Just like Oliver and those were the exact reasons I got Oliver.. The energy, size and beauty. Then I knew she was the one. I just couldn't leave her there and I had to take her home! It took forever to get her out of the petshop cage, she just kept running, and when she was finally in the box she managed to escape through the petshop guy's hand.. but he got her and she bit him three times lol. I realize that now that my flock is finally complete it means that I won't be getting any spangles.. but I love my new girl so much and I have no regrets! Its okay.. a spangle will come to me someday.. Anyways.. My new girl is adapting very well, the first night she started playing and climbing all over the cage. She adapted faster than Oliver did and she is not as scared of me as he is. They are both still in quarantine and in different cages as well. Its very nice to hear all my birds calling each other. They are all in different rooms and their little calls fill the whole house! Here are some pictures: Any name ideas are welcome

I was making tamales with my mom the other day and we had some leftover corn husks.. and it occurred to me that I could use them to make shredder toys for my budgies.. I thought.. maybe if budgies can eat corn then they can probably play with the husks too? They would be perfect for shredder toys! once they are washed and dried properly will they be safe for budgies to play with? Thanks, -Corina
  19. Does anyone know a good website where I can buy seeds? Like canary seeds and the different kinds of millet I need to make a good seed mix. I've looked all over town trying to find a place where they sell it.. I don't want to get the seed mixes they sell at the petstores and I would like to make the mixes myself and it seems like my only option is to get the seeds online.
  20. Wing mutation spangle, I'm not sure about colors I love them all.. currently in love with grey-green, and color modifier would be yellowface. My favorite combinations.. well I like how yellowface mauve spangle looks, and I once had a dilute skyblue spangle which I loved. Spangle and Yellowface make any budgie look beautiful.
  21. He is got the same depth of color as my hen and I've been told she is not quite cobalt but a skyblue violet as well .. Muppet is a very cute boy
  22. I also think she is a YF1 since she's had her first moult already and the yellow stayed almost the same. and now I have one more question.. I've seen lots of pictures of skyblues and Jasper's color looks nothing like it and he doesn't look like Sky either and since she is a skyblue violet Jasper couldn't be a skyblue violet too could he? He is not cobalt and when he flies you can almost see a very dark blueish purpleish tinge to him but nothing close to cobalt or skyblue.
