  1. It's not the best thing to move the box HOWEVER one must look at what is best for the chick. It would be better if you can check them over fully and clean the box during breeding not after. If you birds a tame (ish) and happy with you being around them, the cage and the box I think you should be okay with moving it for a short while and putting it back in place. The first time I bred it was with my very tame female who would sit on my shoulder and a less tame male. I felt okay with moving the box (which at that point was sitting on the bottom of the cage) out to clean it and check babies. They watched me closely but didn't regect the babies afterwards.
  2. Wow after much searching and trying to work out their website I finally found the page with your letter in it. For others I have quoted it here. Or this link might work here
  3. Hi Sandee. I changed your link to pictures of them all becuase they are in the size limits of the boards and it's easier to see them in the same window. I believe you have a Double Factor Dominant pied. They can sometimes like like a recessive. However with dominant pied they get the white iris ring in their eyes unlike recessive pied. Plus a male recessive pied keeps the baby pink cere while dominant pied get the grown up blue cere. The fact that every baby looks to be dominant pied as well leads to the fact that your male is carrying two dominant pied genes. Normally there is only a 50% chance of pied to normals. I might have guess opaline as well just looking at the picture of Smoke, but the oldest chick looks female to me and she isn't opaline. This is a sex linked gene so if your male was opaline all his daughters would be opaline as well. Are you confused? (Laughing out loud) What is Smoke? Double factor dominant pied sky blue possible greywing as well.
  4. Daz's boxes are great. But if you want to order from this guy why not order one made for budgies: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=270121689089 it's a touch cheaper.

I haven't colony bred and don't plan too, however I know that hens can raise the young on their own. What is the behavior between the two hens? I think they might be the ones to cause damage to the other's nest.
  6. Elly how about PMing the answer to those who have posted. That way other can try later.
  7. looking great :ausb: I can see the blue tint in the wings of the hen
  8. sometimes maiden hens (first time breeding) can skip a day in the cycle. Other times it's is becuase they have had trouble passing the egg. A sudden drop in temperature (like has happened in my area) can cause some issues with egg laying. Keep an eye on her for the next few days.
  9. Yes seed has gone up for me too. One week I went in to get seed and there was only three 1kg bags on the shelf (plus the big 20 bags) as of yet I've only been getting 6 kg each time which lasts about 2 weeks. I was told there was trouble with the shipment that week. The price then was $2.10 for 2 kg bags. Returned the next time I needed it and it was now $7.40 for 2 kg!!!!!!! The tag on the shelf was still saying $40 for 20 kgs so when I go back for more i might see how that much goes. (Unless it's a different price now) I'm also looking around again to see what others are selling seed for.
  10. Thank you. You can see his little mind ticking over with thoughts, very cute. Although.... On the bench That one isn't bad either :budgiedance:

I just added the pictures in the post for easy viewing. If you want to show the picture in future us the bottom line titled IMG Code. Copy and paste it into the post. Yumi is a cute one. A yellowface type 2 sky blue recessive pied. I can't really see the cere to tell gender.

Welcome Amy and Eric Feathers beat me to the question (what does CCBS stand for?) I'm glad you felt it was was best to join after lurking for some time
  14. Single Factor Conventional - these are the spangle single factors yes the one we all know and love Double Factor Conventional - these are the double factor spangles (all white or yellow) yes your right Single Factor Malenistic - these are look normal and moult into spangles? yep these are the pictures we have posted Double Factor Melanistic - ? this is the one Daz is after a fully coloured body and fully clear wings (white or yellow) Mutant 1 - this is the DF Melanistic? No this one looks like an adult Single Factor Malenistic when it is a baby, it skips the young normal looking wings stage. I believe the inheritance is the same as a Conventional spangle.
  15. She is nice Karen. And Clearbody is right. I wouldn't say opaline. Her wings should be the olive colour if she was. Remember yellow wings is a the normal colouring for a green based bird. Booboo is still green just that only the yellow is showing from the gene.
  16. I remember the Dusk Budgies. Was there a reason we couldn't put the picture and information on the site? polydactylil - I found an answer to this one. It give extra toes to the bird.

Glad to hear that and don't you feel 100 time better now knowing what the problem is/was.
  18. All sounds normal for a protective mum. Dad might not go in the box at all, some do some don't. It is the hen that give the first feedings of the crop milk not the dad he starts to feed them later on.
  19. Close Elly. When the first feather up in the nest they have normal wing markings with the clear spangle tail (and maybe a head spot) Then as they moult into their adult feathers the marking fade to almost the same as a normal spangle.
  20. Welcome to you and your little one. Hope you enjoy yourself. Feel free to ask anything and have a look at the FAQ area too. What have you named your new addition? As other have stated he is male, his cere will stay that bright pink all his life (normally males get a blue cere when older)
  21. Marlony go for it.
  22. Well If you get the Double Factor Malenistic Spangle or a recessive then it will be a WIN WIN When the Malenistic Spangles first feather up in the nest they have normal wing markings with the clear spangle tail (and maybe a head spot) Then as they moult into their adult feathers the marking fade to almost the same as a normal spangle. Minka and Czar- brothers. In Nest Young ----- Older Compared to Opaline normal (left)
  23. :(Laughing out loud): I took these shots afterwards.
  24. If Dad is only a Single Factor yellowface you can get 50% of YF and White faces. Yellow on the wings is a sign of a yellowface (since both birds are blue)
