  1. Yes I'm getting to that stage. But the only other hens I have is Tootie the TCB or Elly YF normal who is only 11 months.
  2. I don't use one either never have. If you are not wanting to remove it you could add a really good 'chewing' toy to distract her or even some fresh leaves from a gum tree.

    good to hear Norm
  4. update: Cage 1 - Kazza and Reepicheep One of them damaged all the eggs so I removed them. (although she was still sitting on the ones with only a slight crack) There are starting to bond at last which is good. There is 2 new eggs. Cage 2 - Kree and Berry She is sitting on 6 eggs 5 of which are fertile. Cage 3 - Poka and Ringo Nothing! Both like to spend heaps of time in the box. Cage 4 - Pie and Thistle Still with 3 eggs which I'm not sure is she brooding or not. So far none are showing signs of being fertile.
  5. Sounds like you are colony breeding and so only 4 boxes with 5 pairs would mean fights over nest and one hen trying to take over the other ones box via removing eggs. Now that you have extra boxes it should calm down. Also make sure your birds are all the right age - over 1 year and for the hens under 4 years. Hens that are too young will cause trouble like this (eating/breaking eggs)
  6. That up to you and how Sherbet eats, my food dishes have little stands on them for the birds to use, but if your little miss eats from the perch then leave it. Just in the pictures I thought there might be too much clutter for easy movement around the place.
  7. your doing well with the taming it seems :ausb: good job. Personally I would remove the two dowel perches and just leave in the rope and the nature ones, more of an effort to each branch means more use of wings and even feet to climb around rather than just a hop.
  8. *sings* Everybody was Kung Foo Fighting!

  13. I agree 100% with Bea.
  14. I've not used this but Kaz has made many comments before that she used the spot treatment rather than in the water. I would think it's best then you know for sure they are getting the right amount needed.
  15. Yep you still have a young hen there, her throat spots are still those of a young bird and the iris ring isn't that strong either. You just have a hen that got the brown cere before losing her bars, it can happen.

    {{hugs}} Fly high little one.
  17. how could I have not posted to this Great bird yet again Splat and I love the baby shots.
  18. The little pins you are seeing in the oldest is the start of the fluff on the body. That will come in roughly 1 week or just over. Then the other feathers start to grow in, first the tail and wing feathers then the body feathers by week 3 you should be able to see colour and by week 4 most to all of their feathers should be grown and they look like a adult bird, the only difference is their tail is short (and of cause the bars on the head).

  20. I give them chicken eggs normally. I just feel instead of wasting the eggs by chucking them I can cook then to add to their fresh food as well. I wouldn't say it's better for them. Norm - are they working for you yet?
  21. I was thinking recessive but Macka could be right with flecking. Libby sorry but for this sort of question a picture would make things easier.
  22. I love Ali Baba too.
  23. Yep that's what I stated before too, however if you look at the sig picture her throat spots do look grey not black so I also said she might be greywing (becuase the body is diluted too)
  24. No idea at all, sorry. It was a surprise last year when I cooked the first one. That's a perfect way to describe them, kinda felt like a hard jelly in the hand too.
  25. a while ago I mentioned cooking up a budgie egg before and so this morning when I did so again I thought to take a piccie before adding it to their food for those that were interested.
