Sand Perches
I think most here are against them. I've never used them since I got and get wild branches that have many twists and bends to exercise their feet. But I have hear that they can rub and irritate the soles of the feet which can lead to infection.

Tragedy Has Struck
Of cuase not Chirpy. You did what you could which was to connect someone you known, Lin had already taken the steps to talk to us, you where simply calling up the reserves. :budgiedance: Aww Lin they sound like darlings.

Tragedy Has Struck
That's great to hear lin, the fact that they have the energy to do more than fight for life is a very good thing, even more so when they use that energy to do normal everyday things.

Feather Duster?
There isn't anything really different to them from other chick until they start to feather out and then the feather don't stop growning and become curly. They have trouble standing or fly and also have trouble with talking. Is their any way we can see a picture of this bird?

Tragedy Has Struck
aww lin, fingers crossed for you, that poor little pommy. The oldest looks close to 4 weeks, put out a bit of seed to see if he will try it himself, if you can get one to eat alone it will help a lot so you can focus on the others.

Breeding Question
no you where not just making sure you were not upsit by my quesiton in the first place. We he need to go through the 30 day quantine fist so that will make him 11 months. It's up to you but there isn't any real reason not to put them together as soon as poosilb eto start a bond, with out a nest box.
-
Breeding Question
righto then, your getting all the info you can I was juc checking. Wasn't meaning to be rude or anything. SIgns to look for when the hen is ready to lay, swelling of the vent are, periods of time spend in the box. Larger and wetter poops.
-
Heat
then I would put in a fan neer the window and have it going but no on the cage, simply to get fresh air in the air and a cooling sort of wind. But the wet cloth seems to be doing a good job too.

Breeding Question
Mmk how much of breeding do you know? I don't think it matter when you add the box, i would add it with them so they see it as part of the cage and something to look into not some big thing invading their space. breeding triggers- rain, fresh food like greens or sprouted seeds. Also DOn't add the other female leave her by herself in another cage. There is a chace for the two hens to fight over the box or him. She could be bothersome to the pair while mating, which means bud eggs and he might even try breeding with her as well.
-
What To Do
Then things are moving well, once she realised that that strange box is a perfect spot to nest in she will warm up even more to the male, hen like to have a spot to lay eggs before any mating.

Iris Ring
Pictures would help heaps.

My Budgie Is Laying Eggs And Breaking Them
It's great to hear that he is over one. The average clutch size is 4-5 eggs, she is doing well. It's a good idea to get a look into the box at least once a day, twice is better but if you are worried about scaring her off the eggs one is okay. This is so you can check on the eggs and later check the chicks. Making sure they are been feed and all that. The best way to do this is tap on the box lightly to make her move hopefully out of the box, but also so she knows that someone is outside and doesn’t' get shock when the box opens. Terri's website might have something (budgietalk.com) but since she is against breeding it's a small chance. Of cause read all over this site in the breeding area or do a search. This can tell of thing that might go wrong and hopeful ways to fix it so you prepared. As to book have a look in your library, they normally have books on all animals and even the thin budgie books give a small bit of info on breeding. A nice one to look out for, although not just for budgies, is The ultimate encyclopaedia of Caged and aviary birds. by David Alderton. It gives a detailed info on breeding signs, feeding, nesting, hatchlings what to expect and possible problems. Hey I just looked at the dates and you might have a new year's hatching :fear

Interesting Perch
:bluebudgie: I can just see that.

Interesting Perch
Bea I have that one too, but I had to take it out, Freckle would stand next to it and just pick at the plastic over and over and over, driving me nuts with the little clicking noise it made. Then I didn't think it was safe for her beak doing that.
-
Heat
aww Bea ope all goes well and a simple fan on in your room and help keep them cool as well. Might be less ricky than a cooler (not really sure what you mean by that, since to me it means an eski :bluebudgie:) That will ventalte the air around making room cooler. Wish I had a cool spot in the house but my home is an oven in summer and an icebox in winter >_<

Genetic Lessons
:bluebudgie: I thought you would have gotten the yellowwing bit :ausb: since it was the last mutation we spoke about. Would others of you like more of that? They are easy to make up :rip: Don't worry Lin I'll put them in the different thread
