Breeding Time
Don't worry about the sequence of numbers, it doesn't matter. The ring I placed on the chick the first time was PR-6 391. I rung a few other chicks today. That chick ended up being PR-6 395. I cleaned out the box and found the ring. The next chick I ring will be PR-6 391. So long as your records are correct. :offtopic:

Nerwen do as I do, Collect all the shavings from that box and spread it out on a concrete block. If it is there it is easier to find.. I know I have to do that this morning. Found the ring. :offtopic:

Help Required!
I would quickly get some rearing mixture for Budgies. It will have more nutriants than just watered down mix. Also feed at the perscribed mix for that age. Also you have to weigh the chick every day. It sould be puting on about 2 grams per day until it reaches about 45 to 50 grams. It will stay at that weight until it becomes more active.

Congratulations Nerwen the chick will be either a sky blue or cobalt and will be a yellow face or clean cap. Just like its borthers and sisters If male it will be split to cinnamon and recessive pied. If female it will be split recessive pied. I would be thinking down the track to breed it against a recessive pied. It's lineage is a ganzer/gearing bird. It also has a lot of Blair & Poole in it. A very special little bird.

Violet Opaline And Recessive Pied Opaline Babes?
If it is a true violet it would be a violet cobalt. a yellow recessive pied opaline female is the base colour there should be green on her and depending how dark will depend on the colour of the chicks. Chicks will all be opaline and split to recessive. Colour will be green with the effect of the violet factor. Or blue with the effect of the violet factor. Now the next thing is on what gene the violet factor has attached in the visual violet.. I might go in to that in another section.

What Are We
Yellowface Opaline ### (you pick the colour, my eyes are not good enough) Greywing Skyblue, 2 x skyblue recessive pieds, dark green recessive pied Depending on her irus ring she could be a Black Eyed Clear or a Double factor spangle. Is there any green on her at all. If so she could be a recessive pied.

Breeding Time
It loks like the Spangles have stoped at 4 eggs. Good. I decided last night to place one of my kept eggs with them. It looks like this morning that they have accepted it. The egg was laid 1 - 2 weeks ago and has been kept dry and cool in a box in my office. I didn't want to throw it out so decided to see what would hapen if it was kept this way and then fostered.

Aviarys
Hath, when ar we going to see some photos of your set up..hhmmmmm :bluebudgie: As Hath said give some thought to the design. Like me, you may get bittin by the bug and want to extend. I did and know need to replace instead of extend.

As usual I got to agree with Hath. Don't cull the birds. Get this professionally checked out. Use an Avairian Vet not a general one.

Aviarys
I converted a garden shed in to an aviary. But I am thinking of up grading. I'll be buying a bigger garden shed and turning that into an aviary

I understand what your saying but that is using the assumption that it is french moult. What if it is a case of plucking. Should all the birds be culled because the hen is a plucker? Wouldn't it be best to check with a vet to see what the real cause is? or at least do the experiment?

missmad Try this. Let the clutch finish and place the chick in a separate cage. Monitor him. Take a second clutch from the parents and monitor the outcome. The second clutch hopefully will have more chicks and you can see the results is they are being plucked or if there is a problem. Are you open breeding or closed breeding. (Each pair in a separate breeding cage)

Moulting
Don't Misunderstand Moulting for Flecking. Flecking is where some of the feathers on the head are black tipped. A moulting Flecked bird.

Doing Up A Breeding Cage
Continuing..... I fitted the fronts after the required drying period. Then the perches I changed one the perches to a square one. It was 18mm square before I rounded the corners with a round over bit in the router. The other perch is 12mm round Finger draw for mineral and a cuttlefish Iodine and Charcoal bell. Trays fitted and off to the Avairy Back in position and final fit out with Water and Seed. I have desided to set another pair up. So I better get the Hen. Sky Blue Cinnamon. Nest box has to be prepared before time. With fresh clean Shavings. The hen will be in the cage for three days and then I'll hang the nest box. The Cock will join her next Saturday. I hope you have found this interesting.
