Are My Budgies Going To Have Eggs
Flyer is these the budgies you want to breed? >Link< I think we answered your questions last month. You will have to wait at least another 10 months before letting them breed. I'd take the nest box away from them.

Canker: A New Answer to an Old Problem Canker (trichomoniasis) is probably the most common disease affecting pigeons throughout the world. It is wide spread in Australian feral and domestic pigeons, both fancy and racing and is also a major cause of death in budgies and canaries. The disease is caused by the TRICHOMONAD protozoa. There are different strains of the organism which vary widely in their ability to cause disease. Adult birds are often carriers - that is, they have the organism and spread it to other birds but look totally healthy themselves. The organism is commonly spread through food and water by carrier birds and passed from parents to their young. Overcrowding, poor hygiene and other stress factors result in greater spread of infection and debilitate birds so that latent infections become active and cause disease. Canker lesions often become secondarily infected by bacteria and make the disease much worse. In young birds poor growth and deaths are common. In older birds, weight loss and weakness or just poor performance are indicators that there is an underlying trichomonal infection. The common crop form of canker is the one most breeders are familiar with - the vomiting bird, the bird with froth at the beak, the bird slowly losing weight and eventually dying even though it appears to be eating. The crop form of canker usually results in constrictions forming in or around the crop, stopping the passage of seed and causing the bird to starve to death. A more sinister form of canker occurs in some cases, where the organism invades the liver and causes large cheesy abscesses full of organisms. These birds show no symptoms until the abscesses are well established and most of these birds die of liver failure. Avian veterinarians can often find the carrier birds by doing a crop-wash and finding the organism under the microscope. However, the bird with liver abscess may escape detection. Because the disease is so common, breeders should look to treating their flocks to either eradicate the organism or stop it from entering their stock. Treatment of choice is Ronivet-S for budgies and Ronivet-4-Pigeons for pigeons. Unlike earlier treatments, this in-water medication will not cause infertility, neurological problems or reduce performance. In fact, the drug has no reported side effects (even at excessively high dose rates) and can be used all year round including the breeding season when birds have young in the nest. VETAFARM Bea I hope this helps identify what couldhavecausedyourproblem. Bluey got Canker last christmas. The vet did what your vet did but bluey's condition was not as bad as you little one. Bluey and the whole flock was on a 10 day treatment.

No only the ones you saw last week. The spangle laid another egg today. I found it when I got home. No other action for the others. The special eggs should be hacthing from tomorrow on wards. Lisa and Bob's chick will be easy to identify...red eyes. The others might be a mistery until they feather up. Karen I look forward too. At least one should be a yellowface ..or will it??- Vomitting
Bea she does look like she's been throwing up. One of my birds looked that way, well not that bad. I put her on a dose of general antibiotics and that cleared it up. Ask the vet tomorrow if it would be good to have some at home and what brand/type he surgests and let us know. I have been using one from Arstopets but i have been leaning towards vetafarm products and would be interested in what the vet says. Hope the little girl will be okay.- Couple Of New Ones
Love the spangle but they are all great.- Finally! Theres Action . . .

Is the egg okay Nerwen, as in no cracks? it could have stuck to her feathers as she was leaving the nest? Hope it's okay. Up date the forth chick has hatched this morning from the opaline and spangle.- Big Birds Don't Fly
He's a big boy hommer, Love the feathering. Is his syblings the same?- Trying To Mate Already?
Usually the next eggs will be laid when the youngest is around 28 days old. This is normal. Don't worry if she lays again, the stress is in raising the chicks not the laying of eggs.- Quarantine Program
Budgerigar Quarantine Program The following list outlines the steps that should be taken to safely and effectively quarantine new arrivals to protect your existing flock from potential infection. Most steps can be applied to any species. The main difference is in the size of the quarantine cages used. Bird Quarantine Program Bird Treatments 1. External Parasites (Lice and Mites) Spray thoroughly with A.I.L. before putting in quarantine cage. 2. Internal Parasites (Worms) Treat with Wormout Gel on day one of quarantine - CROP NEEDLE DOSE: Fill a 1mL syringe with Wormout Gel and deliver. Administer 0.05mL per 100g body weight, once. Repeat every three months. - IN WATER: All aviary birds add one mL to 80mL of drinking water, for two days. Pigeons - use only half the dose by adding one mL to 160mL of drinking water. Treat birds for 2 days. Remove all other water supply. Each pump delivers 2mLs. Aviaries should be treated at least four times a year. 3. Protozoa (Canker/Coccidia) - Treat Canker with Ronivet-S; mix 4g per 4L drinking water daily for 5 days - Treat Coccidia with Coccivet; mix 1.5mL per Litre drinking water for 5 days. 4. Psittacosis - Use Psittavet in water; mix 4g per 800mL of drinking water (mix fresh solution daily) daily for 45 days. 5. Megabacteria - Treat with Megabac-S; mix fresh solution daily for 10 days. 6. Nutrition - Supply extra vitamins (Soluvet), minerals (Tracemin), probiotics (Probotic) and protein for the entire quarantine period. Quarantine Conditions CAGES Size - Budgie/small parrot; Breeding cabinet (600mm x 450mm x 350mm) - Finch/canary; Budgie breeding cabinet - Medium/large parrot; 1200mm x 900mm x 900mm - Cockatoo; 900mm x 900mm x 900mm. Position - Inside conditions; separate air space - Outside conditions; At least 5 meters from other birds. Preparation - Cleaned and disinfected with Avi Safe - Treated for insects with Avian Insect Liquidator (A.I.L.) - Paper on bottom of cage. Hygiene - Clean cages and feed birds in quarantine AFTER normal aviary maintenance - Wash hands with Avi Safe Scrub after attending to quarantine birds - Be careful not to carry droppings, feathers or other waste back into existing aviary - Wash and disinfect food and water containers with Avi Safe daily. Observation During Quarantine What Should you look for? The purpose of quarantine is to detect or eliminate potential problems before they can enter your aviaries. You must observe all birds in quarantine for any signs of disease. Common signs are; • Prolonged inactivity • Eye or nasal discharge • Weight loss • Soiled vent or diarrhoea (cages lined with paper make observation of droppings easier) • Wheezing or gasping. If any of these signs occur, keep the infected birds separate from your current stock. Contact Vetafarm veterinarians or visit www.aussievet.com for an online consultation. Daz has rethought the idea... Is that right karen I didn't know. Well i'll give that idea a miss.- My Budgie
Hi Karyn and Bob and welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy.- My Aviaries
Try this idea. Put lengths of furing channels across the roof and lay thatch sheeting on the channels. The channel being 40mm hiegh will allow air ventilation and will give a bush look to the whole structure. This is what I am thinking of doing with my aviary.- Getting Ready For The "show"
