Bird That Is Not Quite Right But ....
yes my dog died recently she was hit very badley by a car ran straight over myself and a guy who saw it happen we rang three clinics as it was a sunday explained the dog was in a very bad way and was turned away by all so we got smart and we rang one last vet and told them we had hit a dog and didnt know whos it was that it was very bad could we bring it in the vet said do we have any idea at all whos dog and the guy said that he didnt know but it was posable the lady three houses down the vet then was happy to let us bring it in and please call into the house to see if dog was theirs or not he also said it was tripple time 150 dollors just to look at it before we walked in when we got their he asked the guy did he find the owner before he even looked at the dog i was hlding her in my arms my daughter next to me in tears it was ovious we owned her i said yes im owner that the young lad had come over and i asked to come vet told me that it would be up frount fee of 150 dollors then what ever after that i told him i did not have money and he said that he really wasnt able to see her in that case i just looked at him and said well i get payed tomorrow and either you see her or i will see you in court she was put down under his recommendation on which i did totally agree as i knew before we got their she had internal indjerys and shed lost bowel motion already it was leaking i knew i was taking her to be put to sleep she had blood welling near her abdomen and with my bird even the best avian vet in town turned me away after i drove 3 hours to get their lucky my dad knew how important my birds are to me and payed for the conseltation and medications recomended swabs samles tests the lot 450.00 latter and more visits to be had still no awnser he also managed to over medicate my flock unnececerily with three diffrent medications with no rezults or did he find any cause to the birds deaths 2500 dollors i ended up paying sacraficed two birds to micro autopsys and had two autopsys done with tests for clamidia lead /metel poisoning extra exetra my children missed out on christmas gifts to try help me pay to find out what was wrong i was told i would get a answer if i did everything sugested and i did not still to this day have no clue why birds were droping this hen has cost me so far a few hundred and thats after the kindness of a freind helping me out with paying some of the costs and to be told i dont know but if she doesnt find a probblem then enithazizim is her only awnser and im ment to be expected to keep comeing back to trust i will get answers yet never do i have payed more on the vets than i have for my whole flock and aviary put together never again and as for becomming a avian vet mate i may as well be one as im the only one ever saved not only my own birds but others i even saved a hen after a prolapse i saved my friends chicken when no vet could give her a awnser and ive mended many a mag pies broken wing when a vets said you can do nothing but put them down so sailor i have no more on this subject but to say vets when it comes to birds avian or not unless its a basic issue in which i could recognize and treat with success myself ive never ever had a issue resolved and treated accordingly and why didnt i ask for my little mate to get some liquard to help his dehidration i did but was asured as he was eatting and able to preen himself and was not so bad that he was going to die yet weak that some vitamins and a small dose of antibotics was the best recomendation i was very upset and trusted the vet knew what was best if i had of been in a more stable way myself and not devostarted i would maybe stood in and questioned the use of antibiotics on such weak bird

Commercial Bird Pellets Good Nutrition?
so considering this new information i have been feeding spinach to my birds since about 8 months now on daily base specially breeders as it was smaller and easier for me to keep so infact instead of giving them the needed ion its actually most probably decreased their ability to retain calcium so in saying this calcium deficiency causes paralysis slowly yes and leaves a birds unable to move yet still able to function normally in all other areas yes or no ?? as i believe that you may just saved my hen from the vet whom wants me to put her down due to cant find anything wrong with her and belives her quality of live is not of a normal bird their for should not be given a chance after this weeks out if the crop and poo comes back clear which i know it will and before you say it all meds would be out of her system why these two things were not done before hand as meds would of covered any underlying factors present as you know i was advised to try doxy in case she had something secondary ... but that could make it worse if its lack calcium am i right ? to me all shes lost is nervability to maintain useage of her top half of her right leg and tiny slight drop of wing on same side i only can see it as i know how she holds her self

Bird That Is Not Quite Right But ....
yes kaz this is true my vet said that although not qualified as avian the amount of birds treated and seen and with other vets discussions and with the owners alive they get to recognize things that save others lives this vet particulate has worked with the big birds at hillsville so i trust his judgment even if he has made a few mistakes he really has done what he feels right and infact gave me a more time and actually has saved more birds than the so called best avian vet in Melbourne so i think even if he has made a mistake here or their his recovery and correct diagnosis and lives saved is 99 percent so i actually prefer him to the avian vet infact if he doesnt know whats going on he will ring and talk with one or send bird to him for veiwing at a cost of course but not a huge charge

Bird That Is Not Quite Right But ....
You do not know that. When birds present as sick they often die very soon after presenting. This is because they hide their symptoms as long as they can because they are prey animals. If he died that quickly after the vet clinic visit it is unlikely that fluids would have saved him. How do you know he was dehydrated? Did you do a skin tent on him? Were his eyes sunken in? Did you do a PCV? What was the shot that the vet gave to your bird? She certainly has some of the clinical signs of heavy metal poisoning - the neuro signs and the crop stasis and the GI problems. You can not rule out heavy metal poisoning without a blood test. Calcium deficiency tends to result in muscle weakness, tremors and lethargy. Birds don't often have strokes. Trauma is a possibility But then so are many things. As long as you don't feel she is suffering then you don't need to put her to sleep. sorry for my spelling im dislexic so and quiet often make imbaresing mistakes most dont pick them up and single them out they would try come to a guess of what i mean or pm and ask me rather than imbaress me more as you have done I'm sorry if I offended you. I did not mean to, but you can actually get castrate pills so I was wondering. Well if you have done it under vet supervisoin that is fine. But you have to be careful as administering drugs to an animal without being a vet or having veterinary supervision is actually illegal. Even human doctors are not legally allowed to give drugs or medical attention to animals without the supervision of a vet. I'm sad that you feel this way. It seems that a lot of people don't realise the amount of work and thought and caring that actually go into veterinary medicine. Believe me it is not a walk in the park. Had two trauma cases today. Was so sad. Had to try so hard to stop myself from giving them a big hug and pats to make them feel better. I am sad that you interpreted my post as a personal attack as it was certainly not. I was giving my advice in the area. I went over my post again to see if it was written in a harsh way and i do not feel that it was. Giving antibiotics without a vet prescription is something I feel very strongly against, especially with sulphonamides and tetracyclines, because not only is it illegal but these drugs have huge resistances against them that cross over into the human world. Essentially by dosing your bird with tetracylcine unnessecarily you are putting yourself and your family at risk as well. sailor i did not take your post as a direct personal thing at all i know you are a vet in the making and i understand the importance of medicating animals as far as my coniour was concerned yes his eyes were sunken and he was dehidrated you do not know the cercumstances your lucky i dont tell you to foff in his case..... but where this hen is concerned is difrent i do not know what is wrong with her i have only administered what anyother breeder whom knows their birds would do im not guessing on what i administer and im doing so in the right way the bird is alive with no change and has been for over a week now poisoning by heavy metal would have my hen showing signs of seizures and vomiting constipation and the incapability to balance along with other things related to this if it was respiratory shed be dead by now with other birds in my flock just starting to show signs within last few days if it was fungel again dead by now and just so you know these animals /birds were not sick just very badly injured in a vets eyes beyond repair in my eyes nothings beyond the best chance you can give it as i said im no vet but im no idiot either i know birds i know animals they are my world so you can sit their in most of your posts and tell them to go and seek vet advice and if you read around you will see i too do this but in my case just know im very capable to self diagnose my birds and other pets of which i have many if i even feel i may be slightly wrong its straight to the vet and together we work out the issue or he will tell me straight up my poor baby died and it was due to vet administering un needed vitamins n antibiotics to a clearly very dehydrated bird he agreed with everything i had done and just decided instead of a simple shot of something like glucose retaining substance down his crop to help with energy to give him something un necessary as a precortion with out weaighing my bird just a estimated guess on his behalf which ended up killing him ive breed birds since i was 8 and im now 37 even when i didnt breed i was still learning about them and i believe i have same if not more knowledge than many the vets in my town i never pretend to know more than i do or do i guess if i have no clue

Bird That Is Not Quite Right But ....
this is not a matter of money salior i do know its nerv system im not randomly medicating my bird i know exactly what im doing their were a few things i had to rule out first before the trip to the vet ive spoken to the vet and mate i took her in to be turned away when my bank card was denied access to moneys and the money was their just not able to clear till tomorrow as far as meds and antibyotics goo i know you can give to much my vet yesterday gave my sunconure a shot of vits and mild antibiotic when all he needed was hydrating as he was dehidrated i took him in to be looked at he decided to give a shot to boost him he was dead in half hour after i asked if it was needed and he said he will give just as a precaution as he was weak i saw him deteriorate with in the ride home and my poor boy died if hed done what i knew needed he would be alive right now my hen is not sick she does not have heavy metal poisoning she is either calcium defitiant or has had a stroke or hit here head flying their is no treatment for the last two mentioned only time can heel if at all however she is not going to be put to sleep even if she does not recover as she is in no pain and can eat drink and move perch extra just not ever going to be able to join the flock all medication was bird medication made for use for budgies bar the calstrate CALCIUM sorry for my spelling im dislexic so and quiet often make imbaresing mistakes most dont pick them up and single them out they would try come to a guess of what i mean or pm and ask me rather than imbaress me more as you have done IM NOT A VET BY PAPER NOR DO I CLAM TO KNOW AS MUCH AS ONE BUT I HAVE SAVED MORE BIRDS WITH MY KNOWLEDGE OF THEM THAN ANY VET I KNOW AT TIMES THEIR HAVE TOLD ME THAT ITS GOT NO HOPE AND IT NEEDS TO BE PUT DOWN ive saved animals of all kinds of specie that a vet has givin up on or refused to treat as to them it was not worth their effort as it would die anyhow and they have called these creatures ive saved miracles when really it was basic first aid and time knowledge i supplyed to tell you truth vet told me i have done all i can possible with her bar put her on doxeyvet for two week course in which she needs not unless its respiratory in which it is not and really after my most precious lose last night my faith in vets avian or not has diminished

Problems In The Birdroom
i still say salmonellaits more common than people think and hard to diagnose as no real sign of birds having itsorry i got name mixed up they are simular in nature however treatment is diffrent repeate not salmonalla streptococcal page 375 of the rob marshall book the budgerigar has a whole thing on it you simptoms are identical hun take a look okay i said the wrong word splat streptococcus and to treat you need to use amoxycillin tribydrate administered for 7 days after the last egg of a clutch has been layed this should clear up the stretococcal infection in the hen and protect her eggs from contamination i do not know if you ca treat birds with chicks i dont know what else would treat this but i know glen twenty kills it why i said clean or cabinets out and spray with glen twenty after wards
