I'm Worried About Marigold Again.
Ratzy, you need to sit down with your parents and talk to them about your birds. You need to make clear understanding of what can and cannot be done. You need to remove the egg and the nest box right now. Marigold is sick, and right now the worst thing for her to do is lay eggs, even if it didn't involve internal egglaying (or what ever the sickness is) You need to rest the poor bird, she is worn out. Whenever I make a series choice on my birds eg. buying a new aviary, going to an auction, I make it clear to my parents what I would like them to help me do, and ask if it is alright. Just the other night while I was helping Mum peel the carrots, I asked her to not go into my room as often as I had a sick hen in there. Also to not touch it, open cage or anything. I made it clear it was a sick bird that needed the lamp on, and to be left undisturbed. She agreed to this once I explained a few things and reasons. This way, you are also educating your parents knowledge on birds. I don't mean this in any type of offensive way, it is just a pity when a bird is sick and some people do the wrong thing without knowing it or being told about it. squeek this is fantastic advice the bird to me sounds like needs a rest also its not hard to find cheep aviary flight on e bay even a old double door dresser ( cupboard) from an op shop and cover the front how many birds do you have now ratzy and is marigold your only breeder ??

Too Many Chicks Dying
On the hand feeding note, I have really weighed the pros and cons of whether my trying to feed the chicks is harming them or helping them, and I have decided that even if I kill them with kindness, it is better than letting them die due to their mothers' ineptness. I'm just so afraid that I can't keep the formula warm enough, or that I make them aspirate it. Or that they might catch a chill during the process. (I'm already concerned that their mothers don't keep them warm enough even in the box.) Does anybody have any tips on how they juggle all these things? lol no it is not its going to have more stable routine though and more seedless disterbance of birds also we need to talk id like to do it off topic please

Finnie's August 2010 Pairs
I'm actually just about to go over to the website where I can place an order for some of these things. You and GB both said Triple C, so I am going to choose that over the others, unless you think I should do both Triple C AND doxycycline hydrochloride. i think you need to just hold off if you want to medicate use the tripple c but mate i know whats wrong i just need to talk to you what needs saying i need time to type out im going to get onto it tomorrow morn as its 117 here in vic i see where you are now so that helps to so finnie can i say this feed carrots dayly silver beet dayly orange or Mandarin dayl and as for seed put in to cages big flat trays about 2 and half cm just for now fill with seed and then put a bowl with seed in that one cup per chick per pair and one cup each mum n dad clean water daily washing out containers not with soppy water but a clean bottle brush daily hot boiled water just for now add triple c if you want but i dont think that is a illness also are these first time mums n dads ???

Will A Tame Budgie Breed ?
he will breed eventually but what i suggest is to take out nest and wait till you see them in the act let them bond with out pressure but he may not stay bonded to you but could i breed a tame as pet once but he got caught up in father hood and didnt love me anymore also you should not really breed budgies alone you should have no less than 4 pair in case things go wrong very very very least would be three pair at one time also i suggest you get a tape of a breeding room in action the chatter is very different to just birds noises and its this that sets off the domino patten of mateing

Too Many Chicks Dying
okay ive just read over your post sorry took me so long ive been flat out i have one thing to say are these hens first time mums ???? and whats the story with finnie is she unwell or was she just run down or you do not know still how many chicks left in what nest please so i can assess it no names just pair one pair two so on i had simular issues just passed and it was so so simple i almost cried with joy and the feeling of stupidity 'ive pmed you to get some important information from you but intill them if you have tripple c it wont hurt to give three day treatment just make sure you do follow it up with 3 day probiotics i will send you a conversation i had with someone few months back this may help you out it totally changed everything i do no more soft food is one thing and my whole rutine has changed with my breeders to my astonishment it was that simple :} lets hope its same with you everything looks just about the exact situation but i cant be positive but worth looking at

Finnie Is Not Well
Well, they have a finger draw with oyster shell powder, and one with bird charcoal. It's hard to tell if they take any, but if so, it's not enough for me to have to replace it. I add liquid calcium plus vitamin and mineral powder to their soft food, but honestly, I can't say that they ever touch the soft food. I thought they would start eating that a lot once they were feeding babies, but they don't. They also have cuttle bones, and lately the bored cocks have been chewing those to bits. They get no daylight, so I've tried to compensate for that by using fluorescent light bulbs and also full spectrum light bulbs, both kinds shining on each cage, and their water has vitamins which contain D3. She seems like she is always eating. That pair goes through a lot of seed, and they gnaw down their carrots and whatever vegetables I give them, but they don't touch the soft food. Donovan feeds her a lot, and up till yesterday, the chicks always had stuffed crops. I've never added salt to their diet. I'm not sure how much or in what form. GB, I was hoping you would see my answers to your questions and have some advice for me, say, on what I could be doing better. This has got me to thinking about my feeding regimen, since the soft food is basically wasted. I was going over what I put in the soft food, and what is different about it this year than last year, because they ate last year's version. I figured out, that I have not been giving them the egg-biscuit mix in the food. Instead, I've been using the powder mixture that I read about in a chick feeding topic, a while back. But I realized, that I do not have whole egg powder in my mix, so they have been deprived of the nutrients found in eggs. Also, there must be something in the powder mix (or it could be the liquid calcium) that is putting them off the soft food. I don't know what it could be, but in the interest of getting them to at least eat the pureed vegetable part, I have stopped putting the powder and the calcium in. And I baked up some egg-biscuit, and am giving that separately. (They have been tearing into it. ) Now I am thinking that I need to be adding the liquid calcium to their water, since it's not in the vegetables, anymore. Does anyone know if I can put the liquid calcium and the vitamins in the water together, or should I give them on alternating days? sorry um i was sort of in space for a while their i would use solivet in water i cant spell it i will look up in get back to you pm me if you like we can talk in more depth about your feeding plan i got an idea may help
