- What Is A Harlequin Pied?
Okay so what you're all saying is, Harlequin Pied is another name for Recessive Pied right? But on some of the websites there's stuff like this: Below Picture is a Harlequin Pied. Note the absent Iris ring and have between 2-6 irregular shaped throat spots. They are similar to Danish Recessive Pied but are yellow and blue only. They have irregular patches of ground colour on their body (covers most of the bottom half), with an even solid shade of body colour. Black bars or spots cover the back of the head, neck and cheeks. Wing markings are random in pattern and distribution, they cover about 10% to 20% of the total wing area. The frontal crown should be free of markings. Note this hen's frontal crown markings are still fading and she is also a Golden-Face, as that is why her mask is a deeper yellow then her body colour. http://www.freewebs.com/budgerigarplanet/Echo.jpg- What Is A Harlequin Pied?
I've been looking it up, and I've found websites that say it's a normal Recessive Pied, just another name for it..others say it's like a Recessive Pied, but it has iris rings, (some say it doesn't have iris rings) and is yellow on the top and blue on the bottom..in the pics I saw it just looks like a blue yf2 Recessive Pied..So what's a Harlquin Pied??- Yellowface 1 And 2..
Thanks. I was told Kyra was a Recessive Pied, so the only way I would have gotten her was that her mother would be split Recessive as well.. Yeah, that bird is Kyra's half brother, the Spangle under him is their mother. Thanks for the help.- Yellowface 1 And 2..
I know..sorry, but until I get a new camera, (goodness knows when that's happening lol) I can't, if it's a natural picture to show his green feathers, you can't see it at all. Trust me, I've tried. But considering how yf2 is described usually..I think he's a yf2. But I do have another question...Kyra, who I was told is a Recessive Pied, has had her first moult..and gotten iris rings..Her parents were a Mauve Normal/Rec Pied and a Violet Spangle Opaline Clearflight Pied (maybe split for Recessive..not sure now). She is a Mauve Violet..here's some pics of her..so what is she, she can't be a Recessive Pied if she's got iris rings (they are very easy to see, not on my junk camera though, sorry..trust me, they are there though) so is she a Clearflight Pied, or something else?- Yellowface 1 And 2..
Here's a picture of him now..I have modified it a bit, as in the original you could hardly see the green feathers....hope you can now: Really, it's just his normal colour, except for like 3 or 4 bright green feathers. As his wings were getting their new feathers, there is yellow on the outside of the feather, unlike a normal blue coloured bird where it's white..so he's yf2 then?- Yellowface 1 And 2..
Just for the sake of curiousity..one of my budgies, Sunny, I thought was a yellowface1..and now he's gone through his first molt and lost the bars on his head..and also gotten like 3 green feathers amongst his blue. Does this mean he's actually yf2, or can yf1's actually have a couple green feathers after the first molt? I think any green feathers at all is a definite that he's a yf2, but I'm not sure. Thanks- Can You Judge This Budgie For Me?
Alright thanks. And she definetly is a she by the way. I looked at those photos just now and I'd have to agree with you, she does look like a boy. But a definite girl in real life.- Can You Judge This Budgie For Me?
Okay thanks for the reply. I don't know how big she is really..about 23cm from head to tail would be my guess, though I'm probably wrong there.- Can You Judge This Budgie For Me?
Just for the sake of curiousity, how would this girl do in a show? I mean, what are her bad points and/or good points? Don't try to be nice, just tell me how well (or not well) she would do. Hope these pictures are good enough. Thanks (By the way, as you probably noticed..she's moulting..just ignore that please.)- New Bird
Oh..lol. If she is split for blue, would the green just override all the other colours, (the violet, cobalt, etc) so I'll just get greens and greys/grey greens?- New Bird
okay thanks all for your replies. Hey Kaz, you mean you would show her? Because I got her from the petshop, I thought breeders only really sold there if the bird couldn't be shown. (or not worth showing anyway) Liv, you mean some babies will be Clearflight Pied and some will be normals? Also, where would the parents grey and violet come in? I mean, would I get grey greens/blues, etc? Because grey is dominant right?- New Bird
Hi, I'm thinking of maybe breeding a pair of my budgies later. Here is the girl, (she's new) with the flash on: And flash off: The male, Banshee, is a Cobalt/Violet Clearflight Pied. I'm guessing the girl is a grey-green normal maybe? So my questions are, what mutation is she, and what colour babies would they have if they were bred? P.S.: I am calling her Akara, but because I have another girl called Kyra, I'm deciding whether or not to rename her. Name suggestions would be greatly appreciated! P.P.S: She is obviously a show bird..and for the sake of curiousity, what kind of show faults (that you can see in these pics) does she have? Thanks.- New Budgie
Yes that is what I am planning to do if she stays in the same condition/gets worse. Here's hoping she'll be fine and this is just due to stress though.- New Budgie
Thanks that's a good idea..I've already got millet in there, plus some seed treats and a dish of seed as well, to encourage her to eat..maybe some veges or fruit could get her to as well. I'll be keeping a close eye on her, in any case.- New Budgie
Alright, so the runny greenish poos are from her not eating enough, which is probably because she is in a new home...so she is fine?- Budgie With Red Feathers
Okay so really, it is possible, and there is a chance he really did have a red budgie? And is there also a chance that, knowing the history of the birds who had the red one, you could breed another? Ie, the particular mutation he bred that bird with the one red feather with could have helped produce a more red bird? (just a guess here)- New Budgie
If they sold her at that age, is that a bad sign? (ie, what she looked like, her temperment, something meant they didn't want her) Well, I got her yesterday, and as far as I've seen she hasn't eaten a thing..though that is normal for going to a new home isn't it? I'd say her keelbone isn't very easily felt, but she's not fat either..I think she would be normal, a bit on the thin side. She does have a dirty bum, becuase of one really runny poo that's kind of mucked up her feathers there..- Budgie With Red Feathers
Oh well...at least if this red budgie was a true red budgie, then we know it's possible..somehow..- Budgie With Red Feathers
Okay. He told me exactly what he paired with what to get the grey bird, and to get the 'red' bird..and he kept huge logs of his bird's pairings etc..so that would help wouldn't it?- New Budgie
Hi, I just brought home a new budgie. (it's a show budgie) She was fine yesterday, but today she has really runny, kind of green poos..I don't know if she's fluffed up or not, this is my first show budgie I've owned and from what I've seen they all look fluffed up. She isn't sleeping all the time, though she is quiet..she doesn't move around much, doesn't move at all when I put my hand right up to her (touching her chest) though if I go a little closer she flies around..She was like that where I bought her too, and from what I've heard show budgies usually are quieter that pet types right? Is she sick or okay? P.S. not sure where to ask this, so I'm adding it here..she has a green ring on her leg that says: CDB 07 117..what does that mean?- Budgie With Red Feathers
So it is possible..soo there is a very small chance he could have gotten a completely grey bird..I'll be seeing him in about a week so I'll ask a lot of questions about this bird..He did say it had no cheek patches, but didn't mention whether or not it had any white face.. Anyway, I'm going to give it a try (getting a red budgie) though it may or may not be possible..it's worth a try isn't it? (I don't care if it's a 'waste of time trying', because I would breed my birds anyway, the only thing different I would be doing was trying to get a red budgie) Chances are infintesimal (sp?) that I would find a new mutation..fun finding out though.- Budgie With Red Feathers
I didn't think that even a grey cinnamon would have the cinnamon colour in the body feathers as well, which could lead to him thinking it was red..Don't cinnamon's just have that colour in their wings feathers? I don't think he gave the birds any 'colour enhancing' stuff, seeing as it was only one budgie in a couple of clutches that got the red feathers..not even its siblings.. About a whole grey budgie..isn't that possible by combining varous mutations?- Budgie With Red Feathers
Okay. As I've said, I'll ask for photos of it, and if he has any I promise I'll post them here. He did belong to a budgie club, and the members knew about the bird. It was actually one of them that wanted to know how he got the bird, and apparently was the one who freed all of his birds..not sure about that though. :party0011:- Budgie With Red Feathers
Yeah I didn't think it was possible...but he did tell me exactly what he bred with what to get that bird, so it might be worth trying sometime..though the likelyhood of me finding a new mutation is very low..Next time I see him I'll ask for a photo and/or some more details about the bird. - What Is A Harlequin Pied?
