2 Pairs Can you Help me
The answer to your question, how many will be split to blue...if the green bird of the pair isn't split, then all of them will be green, split to blue.

4 Out Of 6 Eggs Not Hatching And/or Surviving
I know sometimes a weakness in the chick causes it not to be strong enough to hatch, but I want to give them the best chance to do so. (to hatch successfully.. and I want to lessen the chances of a baby being too weak to hatch itself because of some problem) Okay thank you. About the Vitamin B supplements, can I just get that at a petshop? I'll keep that in mind for other pairs. (that do breed happily in a breeding cage) It would be virtually impossible to increase the humidity in an aviary..

Okay then. I'll take him out when all the eggs are laid, and put him back when they have all hatched...and watch carefully to see how Storm reacts. Thanks.

4 Out Of 6 Eggs Not Hatching And/or Surviving
Yes I know cabinet breeding would make it a lot easier, but she does refuse to breed and is constantly trying to escape when in a cage, unfortunately. So if I put him back when the babies have all hatched, she won't think he is a stranger and attack him or anything?

4 Out Of 6 Eggs Not Hatching And/or Surviving
Yes the problem is that he is helping incubate the eggs, (by actually sitting on them, and also just sitting next to her all day) and in the process kicking them around when he gets distracted..(ie, feeding her, gets scared, etc) So supervised access to feed Storm while she's laying and incubating the eggs..(I'd have to make sure he doesn't get in the nestbox somehow?) and then I can put him in permentantly once all the eggs have hatched? He feeds the babies fine, he just addles the eggs. Like I said though, catching him and taking him out of the aviary and putting him back in, etc, is kind of hard, as they are by themselves in a pretty big avairy..it'd stress them, wouldn't it? I'd think it would be better if I could just take him out, wait for all the eggs to hatch, and put him back in to feed the babies until they fledge. Would that work?

So to put him in for the morning and evening feed of the chicks..but then he'd have to be in to help incubate the eggs too though wouldn't he? I don't get it..

4 Out Of 6 Eggs Not Hatching And/or Surviving
He about a year and a half, maybe less. The two clutches she's had have been with him, and those were his first two. So only have him in there long enough to fertilise all the eggs, and she can raise them on her own if there are a small amount of them.. Problem with having him in to feed her but not to incubate the eggs..is she won't breed (she's kind of claustrophobic I think) in a breeding cage, I have to put them in an aviary by themselves...So it's not easy to catch him and recatch him etc.. Any chance I could keep him in to fertilise the eggs, then take him back out and put him in when the chicks have hatched? Or will she treat him like a stranger and attack him?

4 Out Of 6 Eggs Not Hatching And/or Surviving
Okay so he is the main reason why so many eggs are DIS..is there any way I can stop that? The only thing I know what I could do is take the dad out, but that means he would have to be there for the first clutch, so that the second are fertile, and then take him out and let Storm raise the second lot? I couldn't let Storm raise two clutches on her own all the time...

4 Out Of 6 Eggs Not Hatching And/or Surviving
One of my budgies, Storm, has had 2 clutches in total. In each one she had 6 eggs, 2 hatched, (the last one only 1 hatched)..another one hatched but was found dead a few days later..and the rest, though fertile, were DIS. The amount of dead-in-shell babies, could that be because of the dad, who helps the mum sit on the eggs and when startled or feeding her, he kicks the eggs around? I just need to know if there is anything I can do so not so many die and more actually hatch and survive..and why this is happening?? Thanks.

Is She Going To Lay?
Okay then, thank you. So I shouldn't really expect her to lay for another few days at least, most likely a week or more..thanks.

Is She Going To Lay?
I paired two of my birds together one week ago. Now, they preen and feed eachother, and sit next to eachother all the time. The female has, in the last few days, been hopping in the nestbox all the time, just sitting there or throwing the sawdust around..she has even let the male inside a few times. But..she is happy enough to have them preen and feed eachother, but whenever the male tries to mate with her she bites at him...They may have mated and I didn't see.. (as they are 'modest' and I pretty much have to sneak up on them to see anything :bliss: )..is this normal though, for only being together for a week? Would they normally have mated already if she's been in the nestbox a lot every day, etc (so is she wanting a family but missing one important step.. ) Or is she just making it perfect before deciding to lay? Thanks.

If Anyone Has This...
Okay thanks everyone. That does help. Of course any pics of any other birds like that would be welcome too.

Fruit And Vegies
I've got a few budgies who absolutely refuse to eat veges. (and I'v been trying for months) But I happened to see one of my birds right against the mesh in the aviary, eating the grass outside..so I put some in and within seconds (not literally, but before I even had closed the door) even the wildest ones were all over it, eating it. So I give them that and fruit and veges now, for the ones that eat it. Maybe that'll work for your bird?

If Anyone Has This...
Hi (sorry I really don't know where to post this) But if anyone has any Yellowface 2 Cobalt or Violet Opaline Pied (Clearflight, Dominant, or Recessive) budgies, or similar, can you please post a picture here? ( Preferably a YF2 Violet Opaline Dominant/Clearflight Pied) I'd really like to see what one looks like..that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Check This Out
I haven't seen that. He went and did a talk like that at my church a while ago though so I've actually met him.

My "inherited" Guys!
Where you wanting the mutations of these budgies? Here's what I think they are.. Okay. Harry is a Sky Blue (Could be Cobalt/Violet) Opaline Spangle, Sally a yellowface Cobalt Recessive Pied..and from here looks like a boy but I don't really know about Rec. Pieds. Trixie a Sky Blue Opaline Clearflight Pied, (or Dominant Pied?) Girl is a Sky Blue Opaline Dominant Pied or Clearflight Pied..something..Greywing maybe? Or Spangle? Sorry don't really know. They are beautiful birds, whatever their mutations.

Yellowface V Goldenface
So Dean_NZ, would you say the three birds I posted above are all Goldenfaces? Is the top one a yf2?
-
Yellowface V Goldenface
Can anyone post pictures of yf1, yf2, gf, and double and single factor of those, because that would really help..
-
Yellowface V Goldenface
Yeah I'm kind of confused now too. What would your different opinions be on the mutations of these birds? (this one is only 4-5 months old) (and this budgie is 2 1/2 years old) http://i532.photobucket.com/albums/ee330/J...04/CAYR6D2T.jpg (this budgie is the same age, a bit older, than the one above)

Yellowface V Goldenface
In australia you only need to worry about YF M1 i.e. Creamface and GF i.e. Goldenface The only reason Australia does not have the YF M2 is beacuse the government would not allow imports into Oz. Sure birds were smuggled both ways or from Oz to Europe and then to the UK. Not too many birds came from the UK into Oz. Yes JB a df YF M1 is a white face bird. Ken Grey's book Rainbow Budgerigars and constituent varieties clearly states the differences between the yellowface mutations. If you can get a copy of this book you'll will find it a worth while investment. Both YF M2 and GF can be found in the double factored form. Below is a picture of one of my DF Goldenfaces I bred. Although it is hard to see as the quality of the picture is not the best, this bird does show some yellow on the back of the neck and there was some still in the wings and tail feathers and very slightly in the body. This is normal and will vary depending on the depth of the Sky, Cobalt, Violet or Mauve colouring as these themselves vary from bird to bird. Its called variation. All species must have variation in order to survive. If Australia has no yf2..then a bright yellow faced bird with yellow all through the wings markings, head, and body (making it a sea green colour) is what exactly? A single factor gf? So, let me see if I got this right. We (australia) have no yf2. So we only have yf1 (double factor, causing a white face bird, and single factor, which is a cream faced bird with little to no yellow in the body) and gf (double factor, which is as the picture above, and single factor, which is like a yf2, a sea green coloured bird as all the yellow goes throughout the entire body)?? And the bird I had asked about originally which caused this thread to be started..http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=24267&st=10&gopid=288649& looks exactly like that picture above. What is she, a double factor gf, as her face is not cream coloured but a bright yellow?
