  1. Here's a picture. You can very easily see his claw on his left leg...the difference between that claw and the one you can see on his other side are obvious. He hurt his claw when he fledged (fell out of the nest, it was about 3-4 feet from the floor so he hit his claw and it was infected for a little while..fully healed now.. he is almost a year old) and it has been that way ever since. I've just left it, seeing as it has never seemed to impede him or catch on anything...but I'm just wondering if I should try to catch him and trim it or something? It has been that length the whole time, growing longer a bit because it doesn't touch the perch, I think. Just wanting to make sure I don't have to do anything about it. Thanks.
  2. Yup I'm only checking twice a day at most, which is as much as you normally need to check for new eggs or check on the babies right? I am trying not to stress her out.
  3. Yes you did, but she has been at least in the nest all day for the last 4 days, and incubating them from what I've seen...sorry about worrying so much about that though..I just want to make sure lol. Yay so it is fertile! Awesome. It just doesn't look like pics I've seen of a 5 day old fertile egg, with veins etc. That means the second egg is fertile as well, it is showing signs of developing the same look the older one is. Okay thanks for merging them. And sorry again about asking about this so much, this is the first time I've bred in a breeding cabinet (as my first pair wouldn't breed in anything but an avairy) so the first time I've actually been able to see all this. Guess I'm kind of nervous lol.
  4. Sorry about posting heaps about this pair I am breeding..but I have another question. The mum laid her second egg on Friday, and her third was due on Sunday..but, for the first time since she began laying these eggs, she slept out of the nestbox..and in the morning she hopped back in but the eggs were ice-cold. She hasn't even laid her third egg yet, it was due yesterday. Anyway, would the eggs still be okay? Because she may not have been actually incubating them all the time so they could still be fine for their little night alone, right? I candled the oldest egg today, (it is 5 days old) and what I saw was kind of weird. I have never candled eggs before, (I just let them hatch or not hatch whenever, it was suprise whether they would or not) so this might be a stupid question! With the youngest egg, it is like a new egg, a circle of yellow in the middle that is the yolk, and the rest is white. With the second egg, the yolk has spread so the entire middle of the egg is yellow, with a bit of white and a faint air bubble at the top. The middle of the yolk has this bit of red and some little bits of red around it...It doesn't look like the pics of veins in a fertile egg, but obviously it is fertile considering there is some red..What is it, seeing as it doesn't look like veins yet but there is something there...I can't post you's a picture of it, I can't get the camera to acutally pick up what the torch is showing inside the egg, so I hope the description is good enough? Thanks in advance for any help.
  5. I'd think not, everyone on here says round cages aren't good for budgies. I personally used to keep two of my budgies (years ago) in a round cage and they were fine, but I'm no expert! So I would say probably not.
  6. Ohh I get it..thanks. How do I tell what factor the violet is on in each bird? Just test-breed them?
  7. Yep I have stopped. I was just wondering what all the noise (from her scratching at the wood and moving around) was about. Better to ask and find out it was nothing and it turn out to actually be something.
  8. Okay I know she is due to lay an egg today, I've just never actually watched them do this in the nest lol, so it is kind of a new experience. Good to know nothing is wrong. Thanks.
  9. One of my budgies, who I have in a breeding cage at the moment with her mate..has laid one egg 2 days ago. I have never watched the females when they are incubating their eggs, but this time I was..she had the egg under her but kept turning around and moving around with the egg under her...is this normal? If not, what on earth is she doing? She wasn't trying to hide it from me, I left and came back a little while later, and I didn't even look and I could still hear her doing that.. She seems to be trying to incubate it, but I felt it once just after she hopped out of the nest and it wasn't even warm..it's like she doesn't even know how to incubate it?! What can I do? She has never bred before, she is about 2 years old.
  10. I looked there first before I posted, but I still don't get it...if the violet is on the light factor or dark factor does that change how it is inherited or anything? And what do you get if you breed a sf violet with a df violet?
  11. I don't understand how the violet factor works, exactly. I mean, I have no idea what I would get if I bred a single factor Violet to a single factor Violet or a df violet to a sf violet...Can anyone explain it to me? If I bred a Skyblue Violet to a Mauve Violet (both SF)..is it like dominant pied, I would get 50% DF violets and 50% single factor Violets? All of them Cobalt violet? What about a DF Cobalt Violet to a SF Cobalt Violet? Thanks.
  12. Cool I like it. Any way you can have the pictures a bit bigger though, so you can see more of the bird? Thanks. Oh, and you're missing Banshee. I did post a picture of him here didn't I?
  13. Yes thanks I do want the names on it, I've put the bird's names on my first post. Storm is the Spangle, Aella is the grey-green show type, Sunny is the only yellowface, Kyra is the Mauve/Violet Clearflight Pied and Cinder is the normal Mauve. Banshee is the violet Clearflight Pied male. I don't really mind, just not yellow or brown or too much green..lol. Blue would look good with their colours, I think. But you can choose whatever colours would look best. Thanks again.

Okay then. Thanks. Must be something about cockatiels that budgies like...let's just hope that crossbreeding wouldn't work, if they decided to breed or something lol..It isn't, is it? I mean, they both are birds and of a similar size etc, so would actually breeding them and getting babies work? (really wouldn't wanna see what kind of babies they'd have if they could..
  15. I'm posting more of the pics here. Sorry, I don't know how to make them into links, when I tried it didn't open them..so could an admin make them into links for me please? (which you'll have to do anyway, seeing as these pics are huge..) http://i532.photobucket.com/albums/ee330/J...04/Kyra43-1.jpg http://i532.photobucket.com/albums/ee330/J...erapics0712.jpg http://i532.photobucket.com/albums/ee330/J...rapics058-1.jpg http://i532.photobucket.com/albums/ee330/J...merapics056.jpg http://i532.photobucket.com/albums/ee330/J...rapics048-1.jpg http://i532.photobucket.com/albums/ee330/J...erCloseup-1.jpg http://i532.photobucket.com/albums/ee330/Jen1404/Ella4.jpg http://i532.photobucket.com/albums/ee330/J...llainAviary.jpg
  16. PMing you the pictures isn't working for some reason, so I'll try to post them here..maybe it's the size of the pics but posting them is kind of stuffing up...So here are two of them, is it working for you's? Storm: http://i532.photobucket.com/albums/ee330/Jen1404/SKE.jpg http://i532.photobucket.com/albums/ee330/J...tormClose-1.jpg
  17. Sailorwolf, I actually have Gimp at the moment..I'm learning how to use it but I am currently not that great at it so I'd rather a better sig lol. Okay Liv, I will. Thanks.

He really seems like he just doesn't know what to do with her...not used to a fan club I suppose. Would it be possible to put them together in a small aviary I have inside, so she's happy?(I don't want to put her with another budige at the moment, I'm trying to tame her..and both her and the cockatiel are reasonably tame so maybe it'll rub off on eachother? The tameness, I mean) This has only been the last..two days, so I'd have to see how they are together. I could always just let them out together every day if that wouldn't work though. So why she is so obsessed with a cockatiel is because she is lonely for other bird's company? Or did she just take a liking to him...

My budgie, Kyra, has met my new cockatiel for the first time. (she is the only budgie who has, as she and the cockatiel are both the only 'inside' birds) And she reacted rather weirdly...like she is completely smitten. I had them both out at the same time to see how they would react to eachother..and she started following him around everywhere, when he flies somewhere she does.. She seems to have this irresitible urge to preen him. She kept going as near to him as he would let her, then sitting still and pretending to fall asleep (closing the eye nearest to him but keeping the other open)..at first he just glanced at her then started preening himself. Instantly she darted over and started preening him as well..he threatened her with his beak and hissed, and she moved back a bit and just sat and watched him. He watched her for a bit then warily started preening again and the second he did that..she ran over and started preening him. This happened quit a few times til he gave up preening himself and just watched her. Now she's always sleeping in the corner of her cage (nearest to his cage), and hanging from the wire. Whenever she is out she flies over to his cage and tries to go in. Is this normal or something, or is she one very confused little bird? I mean, she had bonded mate (who is a budgie, lol) and everything. It's just rather weird.
  20. I'm posting this here as you don't seem to have a signature request forum? Anyway I hope here is okay, I couldn't find anywhere else I could have posted it. Would anybody here (who is good at making signatures or just want to have a try ) please make me a signature from these pictures? If possible, can the birds be cut out from their backgrounds, and on the sig a new background (of whatever suits) made? Thanks..Oh and as many people as they want to please make one, I want to see different styles. Kyra: Sunny: With this picture please use it for Storm, Banshee, and Aella. (bottom left, the Spangle, is Storm..Banshee is top right, and Aella is the grey-green above the Spangle) Or this one, for Aella: And Cinder: I've put in two or more photos for some birds, choose whatever one works best. Please do tell me when you expect for it to be done? Thanks!! P.S Tell me if the pics aren't good/big enough and I'll change them..

Good luck, I hope she will survive til you can get her to a vet..I really hope she will be okay. :cake:
  22. About adding a second budgie..If you get the first one tame and bonded with you, and then get the second tame as well..and then introduce them to eachother, (if you keep handling both of them) they will most likely both stay tame and bonded to you, though they will bond with eachother as well. That is what a friend of mine did when she wanted to get a second budgie but have them both tame and still like her...it did work, the pair are breeding now and still happy to be held, get cuddles, etc.
  23. So, Vitamin B can be found at a petshop, or would I have to go to a vet or something?
  24. A green male split to blue mated with a green female will get a percentage of greens, and greens split to blue. (50/50,approximately, I think) And no they don't come in that order though. It is random, and you don't necessarily get 50% greens and 50% greens split for blue each clutch. That's just an average, over a few clutches.
