New Little Budgie
I can't really get any closer photos, I only got her a few hours ago and I don't want to stress her any more than necessary at the moment. But probably tomorrow I could. How's she look type one by the way? I heard that before their moult (assuming she hasn't moulted yet) yf2's can be blue, and later the green starts to come through? I'm not sure, they said that somehow a snake got into the cage, and they found the other budgie half-eaten by the snake..they killed the snake, but the bird was already dead. It didn't get Sunny though, apparently...luckily.

New Little Budgie
I just got a new bird from a friend. They had two, and a snake got the oldest one they had for a long time..and their kids didn't really pay attention to this one. And so they gave her (I'm assuming its a girl, she looks like it) to me. She's a yf2 Cobalt (or Violet?) and probably 2-3 months old, because she stil has her bars on her head. But, though she still has those, she has iris rings, even more obvious than on one of my other birds who went through his moult a few weeks ago.. Anywho, here's some pictures of her, in the cage she came with:

Sprouted Seeds
I've been feeding my birds sprouted seeds occasionally, and they love it..I'm wondering if it would be fine to feed them this more often? (perhaps even every day) Would that maybe be harmful at all? Thanks.

Sexing Baby Budgies

What Sex Is This Budgie?
Sorry, I told you I couldn't get very good pictures..my camera is junk, it has no macro setting. And Elly, I didn't use the flash. Here is another photo, but this is the best quality I can get lol.

Help
Thank you all, for everything. Without all your help and support the baby would have had a lot smaller chances of surviving. And yeah, the only plus I can find out of all of this is that I'll know what to do next time, and next time I'll be ready.

Help
Yeah that they do JB..unfortunately they do. There is one good thing about this, I'm prepared for if/when it ever happens again, and I know what to look for now..Hopefully if it does happen again I can see it earlier and they might have a better chance at surviving.

What Sex Is This Budgie?
Seeing as we're all asking what sex our very young babies are, I though I'd ask about mine. Its only 2 weeks old..my rather uneducated guess is a girl? (sorry I can't get any clearer photos): I can also describe how its cere looks in real life, if you can't really see it in the photos.. Thanks.

Help
Thanks all for your help..but the baby died, almost exactly 12 hours after I found it. I'm pretty sure I found it too late, it didn't overheat or get too cold etc etc..When its next feed as due (its crop was empty) it refused the food, and its breathing seemed harder, it was weaker..It just went downhill from there. little fighter..If only I'd seen the problem sooner..
-
Help
Can anyone answer? Should I just wait until it wants food or its crop empties, or should I be worried about it?
-
Help
Okay the baby is fine so far, I've fed it twice. Its last feed was 3 hours ago, its crop isn't empty but it is around 3/4 to 1/2 full..does this mean that the temp is too low, that its digesting the food too slowly? Or is this normal..I've been trying to feed it but at the moment its refusing any food. Forgive me if I'm just being overly paranoid lol, but is this okay? Please reply soon.

Help
Unfortunately, I don't have another pair to foster to..but I could put the 13 day old bub and dad in one cage so he can feed it and mum can concentrate on the littlest one? I'm not sure that dad would incubate it, and if not, whether 13 days is old enough for it to keep itself warm, especially during the night..Also, other than be majorly under-fed, the baby appears to have one splayed leg, its right leg can fold up normally, but it keeps it sticking out almost side-ways, its hip joint seems to be red like it does have a splayed leg....

Help
I'd have to do that every time it was time for them to be fed wouldn't I? (if I put it in and mum did feed it) And it was being trampled by the dad, because of its small size and how weak it was..Would it be safe to keep it in there, perhaps remove the dad so mum can raise them on her own?

Help
I am sure I have the days correct, I recorded exactly when it hatched etc..It is 8 days old today. Well then I am very glad that it is alive..Thanks all for your help.

Help
Well, I can't get any photos of it today, but here is one when it was 3 days old...it is exactly the same as that. Also, what kind of food should I give it? I don't have any handraising mix for it..And its really having trouble breathing, its got its beak open and gasping for air..I don't think it will survive much longer.. I gave it some warm milk, and it went MAD for it, peeping and moving around heaps..It actually seems to be getting better now its warm and fed a bit..If it does survive, what should I do? I don't have an incubator (if I shouldn't put it back with its parents) and absolutely no experience handfeeding..Could someone please help?

Help
one of the baby budgies in the nest of two ( the oldest one is 13 days old) wasn't looking very healthy, and now today I saw it at the corner of the box, ice cold, and having trouble breathing..the dad had been just walking over the top of it, and its 8 days old...and identical to the day it was born..I'm keeping it warm, the mum has fed it but not very much..Please help, is there any chance of it surviving, and if so, what should I do with it? I can't really put it back in the nest can I?

Head Spot Discussion
Well, he has the large head spot, and one tinsy little spot between his wings..he also had the white face even before his molt, so it looked like he already had been through his moult. I might be wrong but isn't that Dominant Pied usually?
-
Head Spot Discussion
I've had a budgie that looked identical to Merlin, the spot was the exact same size(maybe larger), but if you saw him from the front, you'd swear he was just a normal...and he was bred from one normal parent and one Dominant Pied..I'm not great with genetics but that rules out split to Recessive doesn't it?

What Is With This Bird?
Okay. Doesn't really matter if she is, she'll be going in a small aviary soon anyway. I did think it was strange that she has been in that cage for a few weeks and still is acting this way.

What Is With This Bird?
Alright, good to know she's not completely insane How long do you think it'll take for her to settle down?

What Is With This Bird?
I bought a new budgie, and I've had her for a few weeks now. She is quarantine at the moment, but she can hear the other birds..Where I bought her she was kept in a large aviary with many other budgies. For the entire time I've had her, she's been gnawing on the newspaper on the bottom of the cage, (so much so now she has made heaps of newspaper confetti..) and she has been climbing to a top corner of the cage, turning upside-down, and sort of burrowing down head first in the corner at the bottom of the cage, and then flies off and perches, and acts like normal..She does this half of the day, just tearing up the newspaper and burrowing in the corners, and then perches and eats etc like usual. Is this normal for a new bird? I would have thought she would have calmed down by now...could she be wanting to go to the other birds, considering she was kept in a massive aviary with a flock of budgies when I got her?

Scaly Mites
okay, I'm mainly worried that if I treat the parents for mites, it might hurt the babies, seeing as they are so young? So it would be fine to wait until the chicks fledge before treating them?
-
Scaly Mites
Okay the babies are 4 and 9 days old respectively, would it do any harm to wait until they have finished raising them?
