Cage Size Question
I remember reading somewhere that one bird needs a cage 20 inches by 20 inches by 20 inches minimum Is this true kaz?

Cage Size Question
I agree with kaz sorry. the cage is quite small and not much room to fly from one side to the other. Perches front to back is best. I do not have pet birds in cages so I could be wrong, best to wait for a pet budgie owner to reply. Just seems quite small for 2 budgies.

All Yellow Parakeet With Black Eyes?
That is one of many silly answers on yahoo answers. Someone can register on that site and make up loads of phoney credentials and give stupid answers but people will beleive them. I like your reply on the thread kaz. I hope no one ever trusts these "Experts" with their birds lives.

Could it be that she is just out of condition Dave? She may bounce back. The cobalt cock is still my favourite he is really good. Are you going to breed them down the track?

At first I didnt see the grey bird either, I think it was added in after. If I see a bird with noticeable white rings about the nostrils or just a whitish cere in general I say hen. If I see a cere a pinkish color with no white, all the same colour and flatter I say cock. Thats how I identify the sexes and it works pretty good for me.

It is a good forum for other questions, like health or gardening questions. Some people on their just impersonate experts and people believe them.

some photos indicate hen but others look cock to me, so I agree with Kaz on this one also. Shannon do you have any more recent photos? How many chicks so far this year? Are you going to breed through winter?

Shed As Bird Room
Some days it gets pretty hot, this season it wasnt so bad. On the really hot days I spray some water over the roof and it cools it down. But yeah Its not too bad. The main thing I worry about is airflow.

I only looked at the top posts and dave and jimmy said its a cock. So did bird lady. Im talking about the grey baby. I may be wrong its just my opinion.

Im going to have to disagree with everyone else and say its a hen. To me it does not look like a male at all. I could be wrong but I doubt it. Note the whiteness of the cere.

Shed As Bird Room
My breeding aviary is a garden shed transformed to an aviary by me. It is 4 m by 3 m. 3 of the sides are fully tin, one with a small window. One side has tin going up to about 2 foot high and then the rest is wire. The door is also a steel frame with wire. I have insulation bats on the roof of the aviary, and have polystyrene directly under the roof. I have a shadecloth covering the entire aviary which is about 2 feet above the aviary roof. The aviary gets the morning sunlight and the breeze. I have a whirley bird on the roof also. Honestly my aviary is very well insulated and never gets to hot in summer, I've bred over summer and not had any heat problems.
