  1. I dont think pet shops sell it. You can get it from some online stores or an avian vet.
  2. Thankyou Kaz I will have to have a look. I have only been to the show once and their were only birds on display and for sale. I will go to the next meeting and see.
  3. Personally I would wait a few days to make sure all eggs are definitly infertile. Then I would dispose of them and give the hen and cock 1 week without a nest box. Then once they are bonded re-add the nesting box and hopefully they will have mated by that time. Good luck.
  4. I agree with the others, get ivermectin spot on and apply one drop to back of the neck, make sure you move the feathers so the drop hits the skin. Do you have a picture of the affected bird? I find that half of the pet shop products do not have the correct dosage and they do not work. Aristo-pet for example, I tried it to treat red mites. Did not work at all, stressed the birds out for nothing. Then I used a product called Avian Insect Liquidator, worked very well. I rarley by medications from pet stores anymore.
  5. Thankyou all for the comments. Renee, Roughly how much do those jar feeders cost? thankyou.
  6. Hi. Im curious to know what others use to clean out their dirty bird dishes. Do you use plain water? Or dishwashing liquid? Or somthing else? What do you use Thankyou.

  11. Hi. Unfortunatly I only have 4 pairs down at the moment and I am preparing ahead. One pair has 3 babies, all 15+ days of age and no eggs. One pair has 1 egg (laid today) One pair has no eggs nor babies. Nothing. The problem I have is One pair has 6 babies (so far...) with 2 more fertile eggs. I do not want the nest to be overcrowded with 8 babies if not needed. The parents are very very good and I think they could raise the chicks if they need to, they have raised chicks before very well. If a baby hatches from one of the 2 eggs tomorow, can I transfer it to one of the nests? If so what one? I doubt Ill be able to foster them to the hen with nothing. Also the hen with 3 big babies might be a problem also, putting a little tiny baby in their could be squashed or anything. My only two options in my opinion are these: Foster 2 of the eldest chicks from the big nest into the nest with 3 large babies, atleast they would not be squished (they are 9 days old+) Or... Foster them to the hen with an egg 1 day old. Im not sure about this one because the hen is still laying and hasnt even started incubating yet. So yeah... What would you do? Thanks.
  12. If you do need to touch the eggs I would wash your hands thoroughly before doing so. I have read that dirty hands can infect the eggs with all sorts of things and the embryo's inside can die.
  13. Yes sorry I forgot to put that in, good observation skills kaz. Thankyou. Is it normal for abird to have no spots at this age?
  14. You can get a candling torch that bends and is very flexible. You do not need to touch the eggs at all, its quite easy. I agree with kaz, The infertile eggs will be pink and clear and the fertile will be white. Usually its really asy to tell the difference in a nest full of eggs. All eggs are clear for the first few days though.
  15. Hi. Spangle cinnamon recessive pied violet hen. Light green opaline spangle
  16. Very pretty birds kaz. I love this one. And this one. I love them all.
  17. A few of my friends breed at 9 months old. I wait until 12 months to be safe, You will find the younger birds are more prone to problems in the breeding room.
  18. Best of luck Renee. I am particularly fond of the df spangle pairing. I look forward to seeing the results.
  19. Shannon I used to breed so many males that they were outweighing the hens by far. Last and this year I have had so many hens compared to cocks. Probably 5 hens to every 1 cock.
