  1. how long do the babies stay in the cage for shannon?
  2. yeah show rung 08's
  3. What about the brisbane area Daz? In a shed that is not heated, only insulated, is it better to breed in winter or summer? I always thought winter was worst.
  4. Take a look here, it helped me the most. http://www.officialbarrieshuttbudgerigars....rsmutations.htm
  5. Hes a normal, the picture is no good and its hard to tell. But yeah I like him to
  6. Opaline was my most hated gene when I first started also. I couldnt understand how it worked out and could not tell the difference. Now I can and its pretty good. Opaline is where the colour in betwen the wing markings of the bird is the same or similar colour to the rump/ Normal is different, for a standard green bird the colour in betwen markings is yellow, and for blue it is white (the colour of the face, usually) Heres a normal green Heres a opaline green Their are most likeley exceptions to this and no doubt someone will come and correct me, but this is my understanding of it and its helped me learn.
  7. Yes that is an opaline spangle. Whats that over where?
  8. Few show birds
  9. DEfinitly a violet of some sort. The second one now looks tcb to me also. The colour does not look anything like grey green.
  10. Usually the male goes in with the hen to feed her or incubate eggs. I know with my birds the males usually are always the first to go in the nest box. I dont know of any way to stop him going in, he feeds the chicks and the mum and shares duties.
  11. typo,...and I cant edit it back.
  12. Hi all. My bird seed seller has gone overseas for a few months so now Im out of bird seed with no supplier. I want 20kg's worth. Does anyone know any good brands to get? some of the seed bags are full of seed the birds dont eat, and I know that some birds will starve themselves if they change seeds. but I have no choice. Can someone recomend a good seed for them/
  13. I ask millions of questions weekly, their will always be someone to answer. Good luck.
  14. I got them from a great pet store here, but I'd say they're from a local breeder, they have capricornia rings - I think maybe someone had a cull, quite a few adults, a bit of everything. A lutino, sky blue spangle, a few olives, couple of greys etc... rather than all the other stores around here that seem to have 50 green budgies crammed into small cages :/ I know it's a great store because they have separate cages for their boy and girl rats. When I saw that I knew I was onto a good thing. When I went in the other day, the birds were all chomping on fresh vegies <3 It's not somthing you see often from a pet shop, its good that your local one is excellent. Uusually the store assistant who has no knowledge about birds tells you to get the wrong things etc... birds in poor condition, not fed well. They are 2 excellent birds I would be happy with them.
  15. I usually look at the droppings. A hen about to lay will have HUGE droppings compared to one not about to lay.
  16. Yes the hen is a spangle. Thankyou all. Yeah I am getting alot of hens this season, Used to be the other way around.
  17. If you think it is a texas clearbody than it is. I am no expert Im just saying what I think it is.
  18. Whats the difference between a clearbody and a grey green opaline?
  19. I was like that when I started. You will know it all eventually.
  20. They have shrunk the size of the macaw so it looks like it fits in the cage. look at the size of it compared to the finch and kingfisher.;
  21. Black tail = Grey green. an olive birds tail would be dark blue
  22. Sounds good shannon.
  23. I think shes a violet. Colour looks different to cobalt to me, doesnt look blue at all, looks purplish violet.
  24. Wow as If a budgie could fit in that cage. It is smaller than a fish bowl.. The bird would be unable to fly at all. Good work kaz.
