Hens dont incubate till the 3rd or fourth egg is laid. I learnt that the embryos in the eggs stay dormant until incubation has begun. so once the fourth egg is laid the hen definitly should have started incubating. How many eggs are their so far? Also the hen could be very fast and hear you coming, so she jumps out quicksmart. Its possible, I had a hen similar.
  2. I've seen that before too kaz. One time I found an egg on the floor of the breeder cage, the hen must have threw it out by mistake. It had big cracks and their was a tiny little baby inside. About 4 days before hatching. I put it in with the other chicks but it died within a few hours.
  3. Meet stump
  4. I get very confused with all the parblue parpar blue and goldenface mutant stuff. I just go by yf1, yf2 and gf. I think the bird is a goldenface. I am far from an expert its just my opinion,
  5. I use aloevera on the birds. Home grown.

  8. Eucalyptus is good.
  9. It looks like one of the babies has french moult. 2 I think just have stress moult because they just lost their 2 long flight feathers, but one has lost his tail aswell. It seems that 1 out of 2 birds comes out with a problem at my place.
  10. Excellent pics. I really like this bird also. and this one.
  11. The uk birds are so much bigger with so much more feather. They must be on steroids or somthing.
  12. okay thanks all I will leave the babies until 3 months and release the parents today.
  13. I agree. Some vets recommend pellets, I do not know why. I do not use pellets at all, never have never will. They are full of artificial colours and all that junk that birds do not need. They have been processed so much also. I find a good NATURAL seed diet with plenty of vegetables and fruit is the best option.
  14. I have a flight cage roughly 1 meter squared. It is used for the babies. I put 7 babies and 2 adults in their a few weeks ago. The adults were put in their because I wanted to give them a break before releasing them. The youngest baby in the cage is 45 days old. When should I release the adults? when should I release the babies? How long should the babies be left in the flight cage before being released into the aviary? They have plenty of flight space in the cage with acess to everything the aviary birds get. Its just easier for them to access. And I can moniter and give meds if needed.
  15. I have always loved all your double factor spangles splat they really stand out to me. Their are tough competitiors, but none can beat this bloke
  16. I wish. This may seem off topic Daz but you know a normal show. What process is done with reguards to quarantine? What if a bird has a disease and is not showing it and gives it to all the other birds at the show? Is their a procedure to stop all this?'

Excellent pictures. I love the outback. I also love galahs, it is cool watching them all congregate on the ground in packs and eat all the grasses.
  18. Congratulations an excellent entry
  19. I've got a male who feeds the hen and eldest chick. Then the eldest chick goes in and feeds the younger siblings. It is amazing that the eldest chicks will feed the younger ones.

    Ill enter.
  21. Do you have any late pictures Kaz.
  22. My understanding of it is - ph 7 is neutral, anything above is alcaline, anything below is acid. Alcaline water increases fungi growth which causes disease. So by adding apple cidar vinegar, you are lowering the ph to slightly acid. which in turn stops the fungi growing. So that article must be incorect or I have got the wrong information from various articles on the web.
  23. My favourite bird of all your bids Kaz. So awesome
  24. I reckon its a hen.
  25. I know how the ph works. What I understand is that slightly acidic water is good for your birds. So if your water is slightly alkaline, lower it with the acv.
