thanks very much Daz. I with held water for 8 hours and then added the water to the cages. Daz, did your worming gel come in a orange jelly substance or was it a liquid? Mine is like a jelly and I hope thats what its meant to me (the name is wormout - GEL after all) just making sure.

I would not mix any big parrot with budgies. Ive never seen a grass parrot before do you have a picture? Cockatiels quails and doves are the only birds I would house with budgies.

I hear my birds make sounds like that all the time, they make heaps of different sounds. It may not be the case and it may have a breathing/respitory problem. Get it checked out to be sure.

I have the same nest boxes. The chance is extremley unlikley that they break out, but I have a breeding shed anyway. I used to have my breeding cages open in a patio and never lost any birds. Peg or tie all the doors shut and you should be right. Make sure no wild birds or rats get anywhere near the cages, that was my problem. Had so many pigeons stressing out the birds.
  10. With a.i.l once is enough. Maybe spray once this week, then if it has not done its job try one more spray next week. If still no change, switch products.

Hi today I got my wormout gel. It is a orange gel substance. one pump gives 1ml, supposedly. 1. Do you worm your breeding pairs? 2. Do you worm your breeding pairs if they have chicks?> 3. Do you worm your newly fledged chicks? 4. How often do you worm? Every 3 months? thanks

    wormout gel came today.
  13. Avitrol is okay. Its got basically the same stuff as the better brands, but its more diluted. Avitrol - Pyrethrins 0.5 g/L. piperonyl butoxide 5 g/L Avian insect liquidator - Piperonyl Butoxide 125 g/L, Permethrin 25 g/L In my opinion you cannot beat A.I.L Aslong as you steer clear of pet shop brands such as Avian-Science you will be right.
  14. I like the cobalt opaline spangle.

I find that breeding cages in an aviary is no good. The birds in cages will try and jailbreak all the time to be with the other parrots. And the budgies would not like the big parrots climbing around on their cages.

the males try to convince the hens to breed. They usually go in first.
  18. Cabbage is bad., I dont feed watermelon too much water. Dont feed cauliflower No pineapple either No capsicum or brussel sprouts. I know they cannot have cabbage, the others are just somthing I dont feed to the birds. Watermelon and pineapple have heaps of water. I cannot stand the taste of cauliflower or brussel sprouts.

I thought she laid every 2nd day? My advice is do not candle the eggs, do not throw them out. Leave them in the nest for 30 days, their is nothing to lose.
  23. Pearce replied to Dragonx's post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
I would not candle eggs. just wait the 25 days. Candling can be incorect if you do not know how to do it. Until the eggs are about 5 days all you will see is clear. And after that most eggs do have air pockets. you may have thrown out perfectly good eggs. Just wait 25 days and if the egg does not hatch, throw it away. Even 30 days is good, thats how long I wait.
  24. Pearce replied to Dragonx's post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
Well I never candle eggs but if she has 5 eggs and she is not incubating, and the eggs are cold, then their is not much hope. The eggs need a constant warmth and if she neglects them for even one night, the embryos would freeze. Can you foster the eggs to another nest?
