Nail Trimming
Well maybe I won't have to

Nail Trimming
I do I change her perches weekly and try to get different thicknesses and textures to exercise her feet but the front ones are looking a bit long.

Nail Trimming
Budgies in the wild wouldn't be able to have there nails trimmed so how do they keep there nails at a good length and is it possible to re-create that type of thing in a cage so they can naturally stay at a good length? I'm only just starting again with training Molly and noticed today her feet need a bit of a trim and I don't want to have to grab her. I have trimmed a birds/ cats/ dogs nails before so I know to keep away from the pink vein like thing in the nail. I have natural perches in Molly's cage but is there a certain way budgies in the wild do it?

Life Of Molly
I must admit that I have been neglecting the hand taming of Molly. So I have read some really good information about it and I am going to start from scratch. I find that Molly freezes up or tries to get away from me I never really used to worry about hand taming her too much as she had Blue for company but she doesn't have him anymore so I have decided not to get another budgie so I am going to hand tame her properly. I am going to start with moving things around her cage like toys, the saw dust, feed dishes the bird bath etc and get her used to me doing that around her cage twice a day and if she gets really stressed out I will stop. I will record the progress as often as I can so that you guys can see her progress. Im not expecting miracles in week this could take me months even years to get her properly hand tamed. If you have any suggestions or any advice I would love the extra help.

R.i.p Blue
We have buried my baby boy under the bird feeder out the back near his favourite bottle brush tree and grandad is going to bring home a plaque tomorrow from work and we will put his name and laminate a picture and put it on it. R.I.P Blue

Life Of Molly
Well sadly Molly lost her one and only best friend Blue. She has been in a cage by herself for over 5 days now and doesn't seem to show any signs of fretting or any symptoms of the sickness Blue had but I will keep a close eye on her for any signs.

R.i.p Blue
Unfortunately Blue has lost his battle and has died after having a fit in my hands. We had decided to get him put down but he passed away before my Grandad got home. We will always remember Blue my boy for his cheerful chirp and beautiful nature. R.I.P My Beautiful Blue boy There are many pictures of his life with Molly in the "Life of Molly" thred bringing a new budgie home

Blue and the Vet Visit
I have no family members close enough. It makes me stressed out just looking at him knowing I can't really do much more for him and the lady said that there is still a high chance he may not recover. I would rather put him out of his misery than to let him suffer and die at home. hes been through a lot these past 5 days and I don't want to really prolong his misery If it was the cat or dog my grandparents would be different We can afford it it's just Grandma views a budgie as just being a bird apparently a bird is a bird but a dog or a cat and its a different story. Besides I don't have a mum/dad (I'm sure they're somewhere in the big world but were I don't know) only my Grandparents who I have been living with all my life

Blue and the Vet Visit
okay, Ive been referred to another vet clinic in Brisbane "Brisbane Birds and Exotics" the consoltation allown for that place is $85.00 and medications can be an extra $30 - $40 on top of that. My Grandparents are going to flip, they won't pay for that let alone drive all that way. I think I'm just going to have to get him put down unless there is another way. It's not looking so bright anymore for my baby, I wish I had a car to drive him down there. The new lady said that he may have been given the wrong meds or he may just dislike the taste of the bytril. But the bubbles have been occurring for probably 12 hours and I noticed that he is having difficult eating due to the bubbles hes blowing. So maybe it's for the best that I have him put down. I don't want him to suffer because of me or my Grandparents. Does anyone else have any more ideas?

Blue and the Vet Visit
Ive had a call from the vet and she has suggested that he supposed to have 0.1 of his oral meds over a space of 5 minutes and to dilute it with some extra water after to help him swallow it. But I'm not going to try giving it to him just yet due to him blowing bubbles. His vet has gone on an emergency call out but the lady is going to talk to the other vet that breeds budgies and then get back to me. I was thinking about trying to get the vet out to me as I don't have any way of transport but I don't have any money to pay straight up. I don't know what to do? The lady also said that his meds and water have most probably seperated which is true and to mix it all together. But I tried that last night and the meds didn't seem to disolve. His breathing seems to be normal but hes still spluttering and blowing bubbles.

Blue and the Vet Visit
I don't know when I can get him in, I don't have a licence, my grandad's working until 6, Im going out at 3:30 and my grandma's got to got to work at 12:00. I wish I have a licence and I wish school didn't start tomorrow, I wish I had been here to pick it up earlier.

Blue and the Vet Visit
awesome thats good to hear. What should I do about his stress level?
-
Blue and the Vet Visit
Well I haven't forced him to fly but when i had him out he tried to fly and couple of times to get to Molly. If he is stressed should I completly cover him and put him in a dark room to help him over the stress. Will the dangling thing be of any help to him to bring some of the stuff up. He dangles and then stops and shakes his head when there is some bubbles and then he starts dangling again. So he could be trying to get rid of it. Hes not fluffed up anymore and he gets really annoyed with the lamp and tried to bite at it so weve turned it of. Do you think i should cover it over? and if so should i remove the food and water like the vet told me to do when he was stressed after the vet visit?
-
Blue and the Vet Visit
Well im not game to try that, but is there any explenation to the dangling thing or is he just getting a it hypo being in a small cage. Hes normally in a big cage and he normally able to fly round in the morning but he hasn't been allowed to do that. Trying to get him to rest up a bit. Silly bird.
-
Blue and the Vet Visit
Hes acting wierd. Hes climbing around his cage and clinging onto the roof and the sides and then dangling himself by his beak and then he finds another spot and dangles himself for a bit then he stops for about 15 minutes and starts all over again. Has anyones budgies done this before?? Is it normal?
-
Blue and the Vet Visit
Well he survived the night, hes still blowing bubbles and we have rung the vet but the avian vet will ring me this morning when she gets in. Hes a lot brighter though this morning, hes been out and about doesn't like going back into his cage, hes climbing around the cage and I've seen him playing with his swing. So the sooner the vet rings the better. For now the only medication hes having is the stuff in his water.
-
Blue and the Vet Visit
When would that kick in? and wouldn't the baytil and other medications help that if i can learn how to crop needle. Can they die from it being in there lungs?
-
Blue and the Vet Visit
The thing is I gave him his meds almost 4 hours ago and its only started happening in the past 1 or so. But would he get over it??
-
Blue and the Vet Visit
Will he get over the med going down the wrong way? Its never happened before, but i did administer it on different side as he was playing up while I was trying to do it. What about just putting a bit on his beak would he maybe take it that way??? Its coming from his Mouth Hes started up again (bubbles). Hes still eating a bit. Who will be able to show me how to crop needle the med??? an avian vet?? Is it like us when somethign goes down the wrong way we cough??
-
Blue and the Vet Visit
He seems to have stopped he has gone to sleep on his perch but were all not sure wether he will last the night. Is there any explaination to the bubbles and is there another better way to administer his meds if he survives tonight. Well just the normal ones:His bottom is clean though,Hes fluffed up but not as much as last timeHes eating I haven't seen him drink though since this morning
