Life Of Molly
Um.... just wondering is Molly a yellow faced blue because I don't remember asking what mutation she was and I have it as my sub heading for this forum!!! Also just a question do female budgies cere only go brown when put in with a male because Molly's is turning brown but my cousins female budgie Tweety is always pink or white everytime I see her, and I see her a lot about once a week. Oh 1 more question, If you refer back to post 29 and look closely at Molly's tail feathers you can see there all spread out almost as if she is flying her tail feathers are still like this. Is that to do with her health and care before I got her or will it fix itself. Blue and Molly are getting on so well. My grandma and I sit and watch them for hours there so funny together. In the morning when I open the top of the cage to let Blue out for his morning fly he looks as if hes trying to teach Molly to fly. The other morning Molly had fallen on the ground without me realising it, then Blue disappeared. It was only then when Grandma asked were Blue was that we found Blue sitting next to Molly on the floor. hes never been on the floor before or landed on the floor for that matter but ever since then weve had to be really careful because he runs infront of you along the floor. Strange little birdie he is. They were also preening eachother today it was sooooo cute. I must say I've never seen Blue so happy, It makes me happy just seeing him happy. This whole taming thing is really slow to work with Molly. I try and get her out everyday but she will only come out if Blue is out too and we went over seas a few weeks ago for 2 weeks my 2nd Antie was looking after them Blue had his daily flight but Molly was never handled so the tamming issue has back tracked. She will sit on my hand and allow me to pat her first thing when I uncover them and other than that she hates coming out and I have to grab her and then get Blue out he enjoys coming out but he knows the house way to well and flys straight back. She is happy to walk along the computer desk with Blue or sit on my shoulder as long as Blues out too but without him she gets quite tense. Maybe a bad experience or something when she was little or maybe she justs likes being with him lots. Anyway thats the update for now.

Life Of Molly
Heres a photo of Blue's and Molly's set up. They get a weekly supply of fresh eucalypt leaves etc. I put the plant cuttings into a plastic bottle and secured it to the side of the cage so that the birds could make it fall over. They really love tearing it apart the plants also last longer too. This is an old photo when I first introduced Molly to Blue after quaranteen. it's not a great photo.

Life Of Molly
The flight feathers will come - mine are going through a first moult too and ever now and then a flight feather pops through - a moult can take weeks, sometimes months to complete. okay thats so it not just because they cut her wings far to low

Thanks, i was starting to freak out when she started shreading the paper because Auzzie never did it and Blue doesn't do it either just Molly. Can anyone explain why Molly hasn't got any flight feathers growing yet even though she has been through her first moult???

Life Of Molly
Molly is starting to rip paper up in the bottom of her cage is this normal for a female budgie? Also my Grandad had a female budgie and she layed eggs even without a male in the cage. Is this normal?? If for the first question she is starting to breed then what should i put on the cage floor as there is only a sheet of newspaper that gets changed daily?Sorry i haven't been on for a while we went to Singapore over the holidays. My exams went well i past with B+. Molly is getting really big she still has a few baby feathers but she is losing her black bars she has a white iris and her cere is turning from white to brownish pink. I will post some more pics soon. But she still has no new flights feathers the only one that she had broke of and blood went everywere.

Bed Time
In winter i cover my birds at 5:00 because its gets cold and dark quickly and then uncover them at 6:30 the next morning and in Summer I cover them between 5:30 and 6:00 and uncover them at 6:00 the next morning so pritty much my birds get about 12-13 hours sleep each night.

Life Of Molly
Hay everyone, sorry I haven't been around much been studying for exams. But as I am typing this thread Molly and Blue are running along the computer desk chasing each other. Molly still isn't that tame she hates coming out but when Blue's out she loves coming out too. Shes always following him around its so cute. I just put my mobile phone jewellery on the desk for them and Blue's pulling it around the desk with Molly trailing after him. I love them there so cute. I found out what type of music my birds like..... country. there so loud when country music is on and when the music gets louder so do they. Anyway thats all from me and the birds.

Old To New
Thats a great set up you have. When I finish school next year I want to have a big outdoor avairy to with my two original budgies and maybe some more in it but I have 2 questions: When your moving a budgie from avairy to avairy/free flight room how do you catch them and how do you get in and out without the budgies getting out because most avairys I have seen have the two door system?

I definatly think she is a female as she has white rings around her nostrils but as this would be my first time identifying a female would someone be able to tell my if my judgement is correct.

Are Eggshells Better Than Calcium/mineral Blocks
I have heard that eggshells are better than cuttle bones etc. I used it when i got my 3rd bird Molly who was suffering from a slight case of rickets and really bad case of calcium deficiency so i added crushed eggshells into her seed and boy its made a big difference to her feet and health in genral. :parrot:

Life Of Molly
Week 3:We have had Molly for 3 weeks. Shes eating her veges and loves to pull/shred the eucalyptus leaves to bits. I had to introduce Molly to Blue on the weekend 1 and half weeks short of the quaranteen time of 4 weeks minimum as my Grandad is sick of having a small cage in my room and also the noise they make in the morning and the mess she makes on my carpet. So i put her in with Blue 3 days ago. Blue is so happy to have a friend, yesturday they started this thing were Blue goes up to Molly and bobs up and down and she does it back to him. So cute!!! I have photos lots of photos but we have to find the conection lead so i can download them of the camera. Shes still not liking coming out of her cage but once shes out she plays with my shiny phone assesories. She hates coming out by herself know i have introduced her to Blue whihc means I have to get him out too before she will happily sit on my finger. Any way thats It for this week. Another update sometime soon so keep checking up.By the way Blue turned 4 on Sunday.

Life Of Molly
Week 2 day 1: 9th May 2008 Molly has now been with us for a week. She is still a little bit scared of human contact but with a bit more patience she should begin to trust me handling her. My cousins and I cleaned her cage out yesturday. We replaced the natural perches, washed toys etc etc. We also tried her with some Eucalyptus leaves and seeding grasses which i though would scared the first time she saw them (Blue was frightened of them the first time i put them into his cage) but she wasn't scared she took to the Eucalyptus leaves and started shredding them to pieces, she even loves the seeding grasses which she likes to pull apart and dump on the floor of her cage. Sorry guys still no pics yet...... Week 2 day 2: 10th May 2008 Today Molly enjoyed more fresh leaves and seeding grasses. Shes been chirping and playing with her toys today and shredding the bark of her new perches. Shes contantly trying to fly and lands on the floor so we have to watch out for her and when we do see her on the floor we have to pick up and put her back in the cage. Shes forever preening herself and she still chirps to Blue as well as the new found voice of mimicing Blue's screeching noise. Well thats all for now I promise to post some pics soon........

Life Of Molly
Day 7 - 9th May 2008 Today Molly and Blue got a mixture of fruit and veges. (grated apple, carrot and zuchini) Molly seems to be getting overly excited when I put the fruit and vege bowl into her cage. Today she actually drank water out of her water bowl. Shes been talking to Blue a lot more lately they call to eachother 20 4 7. He started this screeching noise today and Molly has started compying him so we have to birds who are constantly sreeching. Theres been some improvemt with her feet from sitting on perches. Shes been coming out every afternoon aswell and is enjoying sitting in the sunlight chatting to her toys every morning.
