Broken Wing!
I suspect tis broken wing might stop him BS, he has a lot of trouble balancing and I think mating would be very difficult

Setting Up A Aviary
Yep I just have large branches and some of them touch the ground, they use these as ladders and get all the way to the top
-
Scaly Mites
Once the chicks are six weeks old I would treat all of them with Ivermectin to the back of the neck

Broken Wing!
The vet thinks maybe when he was in the box he was doing the'hover bird' wing flapping practice thing and mum or dad has jumped into the box and landed on his shoulder pushing his wing downwards and breaking the shoulder joint. It's unlikely he'll breed, my friend who gave me Squirt is going to let me know when the other babies hatch and I'll be getting a couple of those

My Hen Is Hurting Her Baby?
Check there crops now, if they are fuill then you have quite a few hours up your sleeve before getting too worried about whether they are being fed. Just leave them be and watch from a distance and keep an eye on whether dad goes in the box and whether their crops are kept full. How old are they???

Broken Wing!
No sign of infection at this stage and due to lorikeets having quite a short bowel he said he would rather wait and see before giving them to him as often they can do more harm than good in a lorie
-
Yay For My Crested Pair!
I will be putting them in the end of year UBC class at my club if they are showing during the break up meeting, otherwise it will be the first meet of next yer before they get benched and then we shall see how they are looking

Broken Wing!
The verdict is in! The vet completely agreed with my own diagnosis that it was an old compound fracture which had fused and that it was not repairable. He doesn't feel that any treatment is needed at this point as it would be a waste of time so I am just going to keep an eye on it. He won't ever fly. I have decided to call him Squirt

What Items/medications Should I Ask For From The Vet
I am taking the lorie to the avian vet in a couple of hours for his wing and figured I'd take the opportunity to ask for some items to put in the cupboard for budgie emergencies, canker treatments, etc. So what things should I be asking for while I'm there?

Yay For My Crested Pair!
One parent isn't crested she is a normal crest-bred which is exactly the eventual pairing I want to be using. After these guys have a clutch I will probably breed the crested guy to a normal hen for one clutch this season too
-
Yay For My Crested Pair!
I do hope to have a whole flock of them in the future but for the moment I have a single pair (crested cock, crest bred hen) and a little pet type cock. The babies from this clutch will be put to large normal (uncrested) birds next season in order to keep size up and I will keep these crest bred babies for future breeding. By next breeding season I should be in my new house with my proper breeding set up so I will have the space to be able to have a really good breeding season then :rip:

Yay For My Crested Pair!
I think it's more luck than tenacity Renee :rip: This is my first crested pair so I am just thinking myself lucky that they have given me a nice crested baby so far, any more cresteds in the clutch will just be a bonus I'm hoping it is a sign of good things to come

Yay For My Crested Pair!
The crested gene is a funny thing though BL, sometimes those ones with the weirdo crests can breed beautiful babies and vice versa, I have been warned that it can be a frustrating gene to try and play with. It's exciting to know that in the next few weeks I'll have at least one cute little crested baby :rip: I've decided to name the oldest baby Punky If anyone has suggestions for the other two Id love to hear them, I'm thinking singers with big hair, etc for inspiration

Breeding in Ken's Aviary
Awww...what cuties!!!! I used to have them but they were too noisy and the neighbours weren't happy, they're such beautiful birds!!!

Broken Wing!
I had noticed that since he came home my little guy hadn't been holding on of his wings as tight to his body as the other and that he was only lifting it half way if he flapped on the perch. I thought I had better have a look at it and see and it's swollen and most definately broken :rip: I suspect it has been like that since well before I got him, maybe even a couple of weeks As he had been in the nest and not flying no one had noticed but it probably explains why he hadn't left the nest box yet despite being well and truly fledged Anyway he'll be going to the vet first thing in the morning although I suspect it will be only for a strapping and some antibiotics, as from the feel of the break I'd say his wing is not recoverable so he'll be grounded for life

Is Coco A Boy Or A Girl?
If you want him to respond to you then remove the mirror straight away as he will bond to the 'mirror budgie' instead of you
-
Yay For My Crested Pair!
Yep, definately made my day  Now I am going to spend the next few days impatiently waiting to see what the other two turn out like! My budgie club has said they will be interested to have some crested babies at the show, even if I'm only competing against myself
-
Yay For My Crested Pair!
Well I took a photo but I don't think you can really see anything on it as my camera isn't much use for close ups but while looking so carefully trying to take a photo I did notice that at this stage it looks like the feathers are going to be a perfect full crest, every feather is pointing away from a perfect point on the middle of his head
-
Yay For My Crested Pair!
okay, I'll get onto it now then  I don't know how well the pics will come out at this stage as the feathers haven't even broken the skin yet but I'll see if I can get something
