My Bird's Sick
Have you noticed her drinking alot? If she ikes the taste of the stuff she might have drunk too much of it, especialy if she hasn't been eating well. Personally I think pellets are a waste of money, you'd almost be better off rationing her food to a weighed, small amount per day

My Poor Ringneck Baby-
I was checking her regularly and still topping her up once a day if I felt she hadn't eaten enough so I know she was eating, she only stopped eating the day she got sick. She was mainly out there because I wanted her to start eating more and once she saw the adults eating she did, but then got sick. She's not a well chicky, lots of greeny coloured mucous from her nostrils and watery, half closed eyes. Poor little chicken

Not necessarily, the genus Eucalyptus is not restricted to Australia and neither is Acacia ar many of the others we feed our birds. These genera and many of the others we feed our birds are much more widespread than most people realise, especially in areas of Africa and Asia and even America. I'm sure many of themare in New Zealand too maybe in other forms, we certainly share other species such as Nothofagus sp.

Doesn't that stain their feathers permanently though?

My Poor Ringneck Baby-
The psitticosis test has a fairly slow turn around so you just have to treat in the meantime and see what happens, given she had no response to the psittivet over that amount of time we made the choice to change her onto something else rather than waiting for test results She isn't eating on her own again so she is getting the Vetafarm neocare which has the probiotics and predigestives in it

Koalas aren't lethargic, they sleep alot because gum leaves are very little nutritional value, in order to subsist on them they have to eat lots and sleep lots There are some species which you have to be careful of which all originate in Western Australia. These plants actually contain the same toxin as the poison 1080 (used on foxes and rabbits), the native animals in the area are resistant to this poison and it is one of the reasons that fox and rabbit baiting in South west western australia is much simpler than over east, they don't have to worry about the potential impact of the baits on native species as it won't have any affect on them HOWEVER, species not from that region haven't evolved this resistance so you should always be extremely careful feeding plant species which originate from that area to an animal or bird which does not.

My Poor Ringneck Baby-
For those that aren't aware I have been handraising a couple of baby ringnecks, they graduated to the aviary last week but within about 3 days the younger of the two suddenly looked VERY sick. I brought her inside and had her looked at and our first thought was the dreaded 'P' word so she has had Doxy for the last 4 or 5 days. Unfortunately she hasn't responded at all to this (infact she continued to deteriorate) and so back she went. Well the up side of her not responding is that it's unlikely its 'psit....'...argh I can't even say it!!! So she was swapped onto Baytril. Well the poor thing still looks awful but she's sitting up straighter now and had a bit of a scratch around before so I'm telling myself the Baytril is starting to kick in and she's feeling a bit perkier  Anyway, cross you fingers for me please that she pulls through.

It takes ALOT of gum leaves to make one little bottle of oil, eucy oil's not poisonous in small doses, do you take eucalyptus lozenges if you have a stuffed up nose?

The idea of yoghurt is that it's like Yakult for budgies. Check the pack, as I recall one of the Paswell's ones did include a probiotic

My Bush Budgies Breeding
I would say every three hours, you don't want to feed too often as you risk sour crop, wait till the crop looks empty is the best bet. SOme foods will clear quicker than others. Personally I don't use yoghurt as I use Vetafarm neocar which has probiotics and predigestives in it anyway

My Bush Budgies Breeding
I think you're doing everything you can at this age Jess. The reality is that at this even the most experienced at hand rearing would struggle, the best bet is to carry on exactly as you are for the moment and hope that either the mum gets the idea or that luck is on your side and you manage to pull it/them through. This is the main reason most recommend breeding more than one pair at a time so that hopefully at least one pair won't have a problem and chicks can be moved as necessary.

R.i.p
My bunny is often in my budgie aviary pottering about and has never done anything to make me feel like it's a risk having him there either. Also is your floor concrete or dirt? Make sure you check for any spots a rat might have got in, even f you don't think they're around trust me they'll be there somewhere.

Which avian vet in Melbourne did you see? I would be surprised if any of the ones I know of are trying to pressure you into pellets.

They were obviously well loved birds when their original owner cared for them, how sad for the poor old lady
