  1. Well i was having a bit of a slow start with my cabinet breeding. I waited 4 weeks for my birds to even start kissing. But now after 7 weeks i have 18 eggs woo hoo! And counting they are still laying! I am so excited. I cant wait until they feather up i have paired them for good results and a couple because they were in love but either way i should have some little beauties! My daughter cant wait either! I will post some pics when they start hatching the first is due on sunday.Oooooh and i have a double yolker! I have heard that they dont have much chance of surviving? Does anyone know the odds?
  2. I have pulled all three babies out of the aviary as dad was trying to "do" them all. I have put some seed ,egg and biscuit and water on the bottom of the cage they are 30 days old will they be okay by themselves? Is there anything that they would be missing out on by being away from the parents? They havent really got the hang of the fruit and veg yet.
  3. Im confused now? I have birds laying with pale ceres and some with dark brown crusty ceres??? So what should it look like when they are in prime condition?
  4. okay so they finally laid eggs they had three and then nothing for 6 DAYS!!! And then yesterday i saw them full on goin for it in the middle of the day they were not fased by me they just kept going and then today another egg???What does that mean? i have heard of a 4 day gap but 6? I am not sure how old these birds are because they were rescue birds?
  5. Great post!It will be interesting to find out everyones opinions. My personal preference which is based on what i have been told is start at 12 months and no older than 5 years. But when i was new to the breeding and didnt have a clue i bred two 5 and 6 year olds which i had brought from a pet shop and told they were babies and they had 5 out of 6 hatch all healthy so i would guess it was based on the bird aswell i guess you would just monitor the way they lay how many and how good?
  6. So should i leave them? Has anyone ever had budgies that never pair? Or does it always happen with time?
  7. haha classic!Does that even work for guys?
  8. They are in condition brown crusty cere and bright blue cere the tcb is 4 years old and the hen is 3 years old. Thats why i am desperate for them to start laying because he is nearly 5 and i have heard people say that you should not breed them past 5?
  9. I cant take the box out as it is a wire cabinet and there is a whole? She isnt showing any interest in the box anyway, they just sit at opposite ends of the cage?
  10. Why is it that when you really want a specific bird to lay they wont? I have a green series show tcb that i desperatley want to have offspring but it just wont do anything i have it in with a lutino who has laid before but they just wont do anything. No preening kissing nothing? Will they eventually get together or should i just swap them around again? they have been in the cabinet for 3 weeks now
  11. Sorry i didnt realise we were back in primary school so did i fail?
  12. okay thanks for your quick reply I thought it was some new mutation of a brown budgie or something she is very cute still dirty and all
  13. Hey mb sorry i sticky beaked through your photos and came across this what the??
  14. I removed the babies but did not remove the mother as she was not feeding them and is a bit fiesty and i worry that if i take her away from her partner she might attack the babies i am quite happy to formula feed them from now on as i would much rather that than for something bad to happen to them.
  15. okay. I have a baby which is 4 weeks old and it fledged today. I was watching it make it around the aviary when its dad landed on the branch next to it. I thought he was going to feed him but instead he proceeded to put his leg on its back and try and do the dirty with it!!! I went in and stopped him because the baby was stressing. I put the bubs on my shoulder and then he landed on my shoulder and tried doing it again!!! so my question is .......do I remove the three babies even though they are only 4 weeks old? at what age can they stop being fed by the parents? self edit please check your posts before submitting for punctuation and typos. Much editing was needed here for your topic to be readable due to NO PUNCTUATION at all and lots of typos.

I am so sorry for your loss Kaz im sure that was a very distressing day for you having to clean it all up aswell its so sad when you lose a baby even the ferrel ones that bite! you get attached so easily to the little buggers especially the ones that cost $150!!!! What birds did you lose that were worth $150? were they show birds?? Hopefully this is the last incident for you goodluck with the rest of the bubs
  19. Isnt that horrible when that happens they go through all the effort of getting out of the shell and seem to be doing fine and then for some unknown reason they just die i feel your pain! i had one die after 1 day a few weeks ago and it is very upsetting im sure you will have alot of healthy babies coming up shortly anyway so goodluck with them mate-y-o

It is not an overnight thing that is months of neglect! Those poor little things well atleast they are in GREAT hands now goodluck with them i am sure they will turn into lovely birds being with you!
  23. WOW! again they are beautiful! Its probably not a good photo as they both look blue but i am guessing that the male is also a violet. Well fingers crossed because i have a double factor violet with a sky blue carrying violet they are ready to lay so hopefully i get atleast 1 violet. Congratulations again i would be so proud of those beautiful babies. How far away from me are you again??? damn it sorry cant come that far.. lol
