okay update time he survived overnight but when i went out this morning he was on the aviary floor so i have pulled him inside when i pick him up he uses his claws but when i put him down he doesnt walk or anything he is sitting on my computer desk at the moment wrapped in a scarf he does not want to move or anything? so he is not paralised he moves his feet but he doesnt put any weight on them (walking) does anyone know what i should do? i am going to hand raise him now he is 4 weeks old? If he cant fly do just keep him comfy on a scarf in the cage? should i do some sort of rehabilitation with him? he is too beautiful to let go

Haha it wasnt empty but it is now! she came off second best but she was very eger to get into that one so fingers crossed i get all fertiles again? and maybe some more violets???? Of concern is a nestbox with babies in an aviary with other hens....another hen can decide she wants the nestbox the chicks are in and "clean it out" .....cleaning it out would mean killing the chicks. Dad will be kept busy trying to feed the chicks, trying to feed mum in the new nestbox and also trying to keep an eye out for invading hens after the babies and nestbox. You will have to be very very careful here. I have only got three hens and cocks paired up in the colony aviary along with babies of varying ages the adults all get along fine and have their own certain nestboxes which they stick too. I had my first fight the other day which was actually one of the babies around 12 weeks was attacking my laying hen i was quite surprised by that and have since isolated the baby because it is trying to nest already???? i didnt think they would be interested that young i have other babies that are around 6 months and they dont have the urge yet so i dont get it ??? any way i have taken it out and the other budgies are getting along fine once again

i did check and it seemed to be fine before the fall so i am not sure what is goin on i will see how he is tommorow i might mean a trip to the vet!

Hey where are you???? msn???? im not sure how he is doing now i didnt want to disturb them i gave him a feed before i put him back out there just so he was full and warm so hopefully he is okay tommorow its my lil recessive pied violet i cant lose him!

I know and do you know what the funny thing is? they are babies themselves the ones doing the feeding they are 13 weeks old which makes it all the more cuter they even go in the nestbox and keep them warm at night soooooo cute!

I have a 4 week old baby that has not fledged yet i was watching him this afternoon feed from his dad while hanging half out of the nestbox when he came crashing to the ground with a thump and did not try and flap hs wings at all and now he seems to have minimal movement in his feet he doesnt seem like he is in any pain though? im hoping he was just stunned by the fall has anyone had this happen before? and what were the outcomes?

My hen has 5 babies ranging from 3-5 weeks old and has stopped feeding and sitting with them and is currently sitting in a different nestbox ready to lay again has this happened to anyone before where the mum rejects them and goes to a different box? i dont mind her laying again because from her last clutch i got 6 fertile eggs and a beautiful range colours and mutations. The dad is feeding the babies and also some other budgies have stepped in and fed them.

In the new aviary i only have the cabinets so they cannot escape when i come in and out and the other one is really easy to get in and for some reason they dont get scared when i come in and out of it? Thanks neat yeah it looks good but it is not working! these birds are all talk no action! fingers crossed they will start doing their business!

My birds are all quite calm and they know that i am not going to hurt them so they dont get scared when i enter the aviary they just sit happily on their perch and keep an eye on me i have a couple of budgies that when i am entering with carrot and apple they fly onto my hands to start picking at it before i am even in the cage! i love the little buggers my friends dont understand me they think im crazy? i think everyone on the bbc understands my love of budgies though!I picked this aviary up for $350 including 20 budgies i must admitt that the budgies were not in the best condition but i fixed them all up and now they are my best breeders!! You havent seen anything yet Kaz wait until you see the cabinets it has cost me around $300 to put the cages in and with the boxes and everything so i will keep you in suspence......... hopefully i can get the pics up tonight

okay i have been promising photos for ages it may not be as exciting to some of you but i love it i only have 2 pics and i am in the process of uploading some photos of the inside set up i will be putting them on shortly so here is the old (crappy aviary) now the free flight aviary and my new aviary.

I did take the photos but i didnt get the chance to upload them i do have the perches set up parallel and my set up is the same as my breeders so i think it might just be the birds not being ready or something? I went out today and they have been in the boxes because there is poo and feathers in there so atleast they go in there when im not there i will just watch them and see

i can get some later it takes me forever to upload them so i will try when the baby is asleep

Thanks guys i am getting confused i think i might leave them for another week or so if nothing happens then i will split them up i think it might be because of the fact that some of the pairs were pulled from the open aviary and now they are getting used to being confined? well see it sounds like all of your birds are going great wish me luck and i will give you updates when i get any???? it is a job that you need alot of patience for!

Yeah that does make sense i have a few new pairs in there and im not sure how they were breed before s i might jst leave them all a little bit longer how long is too long though?

Yeah i might try and get rid of the nest box and then put it back in in a couple of days because i really like the way they are paired up at the moment

Maybe it is just too cold or something should i cover the whole aviary they are in cabinets inside a large aviary out the back? KAZ whats your secret?

Hi guys, Im just wondering for those of you who live in nsw or preferably sydney area do you have any eggs or babies at the moment? Im just wondering because my birds dont seem to be doing anything i was wondering if maybe the weather could be interupting them this much do they like it in hot or cold months?

okay i havent had much success with the cabinets i still have 2 birds going in and out of the cages but the others are not showing interest even with brown crusty ceres i will probably swap them around in the next couple of days and see if that works and gets them moving? Has anyone had this much trouble with cabinets before? Some of the hens have laid before so i thought they would get straight into it im stumped?

I would say the opposite 2 girls and 1 boy but i am no expert? goodluck with it! apparently another way to tell is that boys bite soft and girls bite hard?

Congratulations on your third egg i am currently waiting forr my first cabinet breeders to lay an egg i have 10 pairs and they have been in there for almost 3 weeks and im still waiting for some of them to even show interest in each other so you are sooo lucky whatever you are doing is working keep it up! cross your fingers for me please
