They are all beautiful birds Una ... you have made a lovely flock of colors. I envy everyone on here who has more then 2 birds. And a budgietiel too ! WOW ! UNA ! Apple & Munchin ... OH MAN ... Munchkin playing in the purple lace scrunchie was too adorable. He was having a BALL !& the beep beep beeps & the Whatchadoins .... you are the BUDGIE MASTER !!!!!KUDO'S GIRL ! I'm deeply impressed !

So ... turning your budgie upside down & moving away the feathers from that "AREA" & giving a little lookiloo or feel is not the proper way to tell if you got a boy or a girl budgie ? I suppose your budgie might not like that invasion of privacy.

I like the idea of Merlin cam. I like the idea of being able to chat live by text with yer MIL & say, " UH MERLIN looks like he could use a bath. Why not put his bath in his cage now ? Not too cold water ... don't wanna freeze his budgie nuggets off. '' Or, " Hey LADY ... why isn't there any cucumber or radish rosettes on his offering plate ? You are getting a little slack there."' '' Also ... his fresh baked egg cookies look ''LIMP'' didn't you follow the recipe properly ? I'm sure his Mommy gave you the BOOK of directions in order to assure Merlins care was up to par. "" YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED ... SHAME ON YOU ! BAD MIL !!!!! BAD !

What for ? The beating I am due for the CHILD BIRTH COMMENT ? or when I deal with CHEWY ? I began with fingers with Weebil. CAUSE I WAS STOOOOPID ! Then I got smarter (but not so fast) & moved up to the front of my hand as he couldn't grab on to anything that wasn't actually dangling in front of him. He got use to that. He got use to the fact that I took the bites & didn't pull back & cry out or make a fuss about it. Once he saw that I wasn't fizzed by it .... he just gave up. But at first ? WOW ... he made some serious chews on my fingers ! He does not bite at all anymore. IN FACT ... he preens around my nails & picks away skin & does it in the most gentle way. I will rent him out to anyone who needs a dry skin budgie manicure. Nail polish would not be able to apply ... he'd not like the smell I'm sure.

Just keep yer budgies away from my house & my grass ... my lawn has cakes & cookies & donuts & all sorts of yummies growing there that will make them TOO FAT TO FLY ! :parrot: <---- see this bird ? too fat to fly ... can only wiggle & woggle too & fro. You can see by his face he was eating my raspberry cream donuts.

A good way to assure your branch is clean & not have pesticides is to wash it very well with water & a strong wash of vinegar. Rinse it off & then place it in the oven on 200 or 150 degrees .... a low setting for 20 minutes. Let it cool. This assures all bugs & bacteria will be cleared & killed from the branch. The branch does not bake. But the outer bark is a little nicer & dryer for them to chew on ... I have apple tree branches prepared for this. I stuck the branches in a large 2 litre soda bottle with heavy sand. The birds love to sit by the computer desk & chew & play on the branches. I have a paper under the bottle tree to catch the poopers & debris from things I hang on the branches ... like millet or apple slices or strips of sugar cane. These can all be placed on the branches with a simple clip. It lets the birds be chewy monsters they love to be & they are close to you to play & interact. Simple play center that's easy to make. DO NOT USE PEAR TREE BRANCHES ... check with the Forum of branches you can & cannot use for this ... some branches are not safe for your bird.

That would be great to see Kaz ... I can't wait to see the pics ! I didn't know they were that small ... I thought they'd all kind of be the same. Only the English or Show Budgies would be bigger. What Daz has said is that the wild budgies are almost just HALF a budgie.

I wouldn't put the birds on the grass here in Canada ... grass here is where our lovely annoying flea's live. Cat's dogs & other lovely little crits can catch fleas from our lawns. Once on the animals body the fleas can jump up to 15 meters. So imagine kitty on your sofa & you on your recliner & feeling a bite & itchy all of a sudden. Also in & on your bedding & in your carpets etc..... Once the fleas have invaded your home. You have some serious spraying & pest control to deal with. I don't know what your grass's have in Oz ... but better to check before you allow the bubs some splender in the grass !

Will George be pacing back & forth in front of the nest muttering to himself & running his fingery claws thru his rapidly greying feathery hair ? Will he keep looking in & asking what's taking so long ? Staring at the Rolex on his leg band. While Amira ignores him calmy & hums to herself knitting baby noggin warmers for her brood of baldys to be. Let's hope none of them look like Brad Pitt. Angelina will have a FIT if these buds look PITTISH ! George will be fit to be tied ... I can see the headlines now. TMZ & THE SUN PAPER WILL SLASH the Lovely Amira's reputation to shreds. She will have to hang her head in shame & raise her brood alone. Won't be the first time we've had a scandal like this .... keep me posted. Hey .... Do male budgies pass our cigars when the bubs hatch ? Smoking aint good for em ya know.

This is all amazing information about these wild budgies. So ... about the eyes. Does anyone have any idea about the eye colors ? Would they be black eyes & some with the white iris ring ? Is the eye color of the wild green budgie any different then the domesticated budgies ? Wild pigeons have red eyes when they eat garbage or street food for their diet. But their new hatched babies all start out with the black normal eyes. Once the diet starts changing to a scavenger diet ... all (plugs) or wild pigeons eyes turn red. And they are not albinos pigeons. I was wondering if wild budgies have this happen to them also.

Gen ... check out the background noise you have going in the house. Where is the bird & what time is this behaviour happening ? I was playing the radio a little too loudly the other night & heard some mouthing off from the birds about that. And they were in another room. But they yelled their displeasure. I was surprised as they never really complained before. BUT ... one of them is in a molt now. So ... that might be making the birdf a little more moody. They seemed to be upset by the sounds. That might be something new to your new guy. Loud tv .... radio ... stereo ? Ozzy Osbourne could cause any Budgie to want to harm itself ! My girlfriend was laying on the sofa with a blanket on herself last night & the birds were covered up & all was quiet & dark .... when my girlfriend flicked back the blanket to get up the cover nicked against the cage & touched it softly ... YEOWCH ! I heard some cussing & mouthy grumbling from the 2 birds I haven't heard before. Little yellow & green swearing truck drivers with attitude ... they snapped at her for her waking them. They can get in their moods when they want to be quiet & in bed. Check the time your bird is ready to call it quits for the night. The rule of thumb is ... they like to go to sleep when the sun goes down. SOME DO ... NOT ALL DO. But ... If your bird is in the family room & the lights & or tv is on ... he really doesn't have the chance to rest does he ? He might not be happy about that. Move him to a quieter room for bed time. Cover him with a dark blanket or light cloth ... let him rest. Molting & new feathers make them moody & sensitive to all sorts of little things like that. Every day is a learning tool with these birds. Let us know how it goes. I'm always curious to hear what happens.

There's something in the air Neat ... might be Global Warming ... or the smell of vegamite cake. It's turned all our new young budgies in to Zombie Blood craving Beasts. HEY ... maybe the millet is a new breed & has a nasty drug in it. It's making all our new budgies ZOMBIES .... ! DANG ... we have Millet Farms here in Ontario. One of the biggest mass producers of the Millet World. I think they are trying to take over the WORLD. LOOK OUT EVERYBODY ... its a MILLET PANDEMIC. I need a nice cuppa hot milk with some honey. That should settle me down a little.

If you are also at your computer & you have Bing hanging around you & your desk ... let him have a higher perch then your desk level. Don't have him on or in your hands. His being lower & at hand level can frighten him a little. Let him sit up a higher .. perhaps on a wicker basket handle ... or rig up some sort of safely strong perch set up on shelves, with weights to assure steadiness & they won't move. Place Bing up on this advantage post & show him he is the king of the castle ! Then ... put some millet or his treats he likes maybe a few seeds or a few little plastic toys in the basket & let him perch up on the handle & brouse around & see what is happening in his & your world. He will decide when & if he will come down on his own terms & maybe chew his millet or play with his toys should he want to ... roll your pen lightly around on the desk & don't make sudden loud noises to startle him. Talk to him softly & show you are interested in him ... get him to try & vocalize back to you ... face to face or eyeball to eyeball is a good key. It makes a connection. They do strongly become attracted to your face & voice. Let him get use to this new world you show him. He will investigate it his way. I had a budgie that did just that & before too long he was down on the desk off his high perch & playing & attacking my keyboard & trying to type & do my work for him. Was a great deal too ... he worked cheap ... for millet. Good luck ... keep us posted.

Good advice from Elly & Neat ... you can try again another day. But don't give up. YOU HAVE TO TRY !!!!!!! I just found out that my rescue bird is over 3 years old & has never been hands on or trained in any way with any one EVER ! Today he & I are working out a friendship & working at trust one on one. He willingly steps up on my hands & gave up biting long ago. The thing I like about the hand training is " in case of emergency." It's good to know that I can get the birds to come to my hand & I can place them in their cage and away from danger should it happen. I have control over their lives from danger. Last year a cat tore open a window screen in our livingroom & entered the house where the birds were. I had no way to gather them & get them into the cage & safe. This scared me greatly. I didn't know this cat or its temperment & could have been bitten & scratched by the viscious feral ferocious mountain lion that might have been ill. with mad cat disease or rabbi's that jewish illness. This was not a good thought. Another time a neighbour under me decided to wood smoke flavor into some food in his BBQ without noticing the smell of the smoke chips came in the window & went directly at my birds. I had no hands on with my birds & it was an awful time trying to quickly darken the room ... & throw sheets over the poor scared birds as they flew in panic trying to get away from my crazy antics ... just so I could gather them & get them to their cage & then move them & the entire cage to safety. Little things you take for granted can make a quick end to your bird friends life. It's best you are in contol. I am happy now I work with my birds on a daily one on one basis to gain some trust so should some emergency arise ... I have the chance to load them in their cage ... or a bird carrier & get them safely out of harms way. It's taking time ... I've lost some skin & it hurt worse then CHILD BIRTH (oh I know I will pay for that comment) ... but you will feel more secure in the end with the results with the trust you build with your birds. PERSISTANCE is the key. Or bird Prozac ....

Cary Grant, Errol Flynn, Gary Copper, Fatty Arbuckle. Well ... okay ... not so much Fatty. But you get my idea. These guys were all silent, wiggle their eyebrows once or twice ... give a deep look at the ladies & the next thing you know ... babys were crying in the next scene. That's YOUR NIBLET ! He's just one of them kinda guys ! He's got it bad for ya. Niblet is just being a Silent Stalker type ... he's trying to get your attention ... little tickle ... little nibble ... hop hop hop up the arm ... little bite ... little chew ... hop hop hop ... closer to the face ... look you in the eye ... make you swooon ! Presto. He's going to look you in the eye & make your BVD'S or your Fruit of the Looms hit the floor. Dim the lights baby ..... Niblet wants your action. Can you put this on video ? Send it to me ... Sorry to hear of your loss of such a sweet friend Elly. A year is no time in passing to you when you love someone/thing that precious that loves you & touches you back just as much. It hurts as much today as if it was yesterday. But you have given a nice tribute to your lovely Pretty. May his soul fly joyfully with your heart & soul now on his anniversary.

When the get close to the cage to check on you ... cower in the corner & shiver uncontrollably until they freak out & call your Mommy & get her to come check on her baby. When Mommy gets there give her a tongue lashing like never before. Make her check you over from top to bottom & clean up your cage & make everything the way YOU EXPECT IT ... cause only your mommy can. Then mommy can go home & have a lovely double gin & tonic & sniff the lovely paint fumes & curse you for giving her such a scare. :devil: GOD ... I LOVE WHEN A LITTLE ANIMAL HAS SUCH POWER over its humans !!!! heh heh ! Merlin wants MOMMY .... RIGHT NOW ! I SAID NOW ! ELLY's FUTURE for the NEXT WEEK .... >
