thanks dave, i found maesie's thread and read what she did and sounds like a good idea.
  2. i did get them for a good price. i paid $10 each for the greys and $30 for the green but i do not want to crowd the avairy i have so i think i should hurry up and get another avairy built and put a hold on budgie buying.they are good birds he was selling, he has to go to hospital and will be out of action for 3 months so he does not want to many birds for his wife to look after.

i have been offered a heap of bricks for free so i thought that i could used them for the base of my aviary and put a wood frame around the outside so they stay together but i do not want lots of cracks for the seed to fall through so what would be a good material for a board to put on top of them.
  4. What time and where at Cessnock.i would like to go and have a look but could not buy, my husband said i have already spend all my budgie allowance for this month. Tell husband that since you got some free budgies from Dave that you have credit for those ones and should be allowed to purchase some new ones too :hap: well...its works for me :hap: Problem is the money i spend on birds comes out of the money i am saving to build my new aviary so if i keep buying new budgies i will never get my aviary finished.

  6. i went to see the breeder that Jenene told me about today who was having to sell some of his show budgies due to health issues and i came home with 4 beautiful birds. i am very happy because these are my first show budgies.i got 2 females, one is a grey opaline and the other a cinnamon wing opaline. i also got 2 males, one is a grey opaline and the other is a green opaline spangle. The green spangle is my favourite, the breeder said he took 4th place in a budgie show last year. now i need to work out which ones to pair together.

that is great you found a place you like and one that will let you have your pets. i will be praying that you get the place.
  8. I am a Council Compliance Officer with a lower Hunter Council and U are dead right. As long as u are not upsetting neighbours we wont be upsetting you! Steve Should i be starting to worry now, Steve.
  9. it will be better to build the aviary where the cubby house is because it will be on higher ground but i am not looking forward to moving the cubby.
  10. i have good news i rang council and they said i am allowed to have more than 30 budgies but i have to build the aviary 6 metres from buildings. my neighbours are complainers so i have to make sure i do everything properly. The bad news is i will have to take down the framework of the avairy i have started building and build it somewhere else but the only other place avialable is where the cubby house is so it looks like i will be moving my cubby house which will be a big job.
  11. The 4 babies that Dave gave me have moved to the aviary and are settling in nicely. When they first went in i was a bit worried because they keep flying into the walls and did not seem to know where to perch. it would be a big change going from a cage into a aviary.
  12. Thanks 40 would be nice but i rang up my council and they said i was only allowed to have 30.
  13. my aviary is 2.4m x 1.7m and 1.8m high and i am wondring how many budgies i can house in it. i am going to look at some show budgies tomorrow and how many i buy depends on how many i have room for. i am building another aviary but it will not be finished till sept.
  14. i got in touch with the guy and i am going up on sat morning to have a look. Thanks jenene for letting me know.
  15. they are the spangles that i got given recently.
  16. i do not have any other females that are of breeding age and i was not going to breed with her til i was able to put another pair together at the same time but she was really wanting to make a nest so i decided to take the risk and hope she is a good mother.
  17. Thanks, this is my first cabinet breeding pair sfter 3 years of colony breeding.
  18. This morning when i went to check the pair, the hen was in the nest box throwing the bedding out so hopefully that is a sign she is intersted in the nestbox and not throwing it out so she can take it to the corner. She has been going in and out of the box all morning.Should i put the nesting material back in or just leave her to make the nest the way she wants it.
  19. congrats on the first egg.
  20. The hen did not lay a egg yesterday but this morning i gave her vegies and she took all the chinese cabbage to the corner of the cage and sat on it.i think she is a strange hen.i decide to move them to a breeding cabinet today and now she is happily sitting on the perch interact with the male and not playing in the corner or going in the nestbox so maybe she did not like the quarintine cage.
  21. thanks for your advice, should i be giving her anything extra to eat. she loves her cuttlebone at the moment. They are also getting fresh vegies and she loves corn.can she decide not to lay a egg because she is not comfortable enough in her corner.
  22. i was not sure if itwas a good idea to breed with them while they are in quarintine. she is a df spangle and he is a violet skyblue spangle so i would get some pretty spangles from them. The cage they are in is not big enough for breeding so if i moved them to a breeding cabinet would it upset them.
  23. The new pair i got recently are very close and the male spends alot of time preening the female and feeding her. They have been mating alot as well. Her cere shows that she is in breeding condition and i thought because they are in a quarintine cage with no nesting box that the female would not want to nest. A couple of days she started pulling up the newspaper from under the grate of the cage and taking it to a corner of the cage and now she keeps going and sitting in the corner and the male goes down and feeds her. i am concerned that she is trying to nest and that if she cannot she will get egg bounded. Is that a possibilty and what could i do to try to distract her from her behaviour. i do want to breed with her but not while she is in quarintine.she is not sick because she will go up to the perches to interact with the male and then go and get newspaper and take to her corner.i am not sure what a female in breeding condition looks like but her bottom area is fluffed up.
  24. he is a beautiful bird and i am glad to hear he is doing better.
  25. congrats Libby, it is also a cute photo of Agatha with Pancakes.
