  1. Great photos... thanks for sharing :bluebudgie:
  2. Good change of plans!!!
  3. So, I assume this is not Storm and Cinder, who you have asked about in another post? Liv has giving great advice. I had a hen who was smashing her eggs and/or throwing them out of her nest box. I removed it. She laid a few off the perch and then stopped. Just make sure you offer her plenty of calcium... maybe in the water and as cuttlefish? Good luck and please keep us updated on how she goes :bluebudgie:
  4. Poor thing... It's almost impossible to 'guess' what the cause could be with out knowing more information. Does it look injured, any bloody in the cage-dry/wet- does she use it at all, is it swollen, how old is she, has she lost any other condition... sharp keep, pooy bum???? Also do you have any photos of her and her leg. The would help a lot. :hi:
  5. Around 8 hours? Does this make any difference with the regurgitating whether he is covered for more hours or not? Other than this habbit of his lately, he is a normal happy budgie - although I know this is normal if he is sick. Another question, I am wanting to get him a mate - how old should the new budgie be? Gorgeous is really tame and sits on my shoulder most of the day (I work from home) so will getting another budgie make him less tame? Should I spend a lot of time with the new budgie before they sleep together at night so the new one becomes tame? Increasing darkness hours can help reduce such hormonal problems... As to getting another budgie... There are a few posts about it around at the moment (Hill's topic)... also, check out this article. It should answer some of your questions...
  6. I'm a very big believer in that everything happens for a reason...although we may never know what that is.
  7. YES... I don't have one in my unit... other than the bottom of my shower . But Mum and Dad are going away for the weekend and I'm going to go around to their place tomorrow, poor a glass of bubbly, and have a nice long soak in their bath...
  8. Last weekend Dad and I had a working bee in my backyard... The plan was: Prune back the trees (we did them when I moved in and they came back very well) Dig up the remaining dying/dead weeds Lay weed mat Cover with Mulch (bought some Easy Wetta Mulch blocks) Over the past few weeks I poisoned the weeds and they were dying... slowly! Here are some before photos: After a few hours of work... we had it looking like this: Whilst doing this work we had the Mulch Block soaking in water. It did expand... but no where near as much as expected and covered very little... and at $15.00 per block it was going to be a very expensive chioce... So... we had some lunch and thought about our options... Mulch- I have no access to the backyard, other than though the house. There is no where for it to be delivered either... Mulch was going to cost between $120-$250. The guy was spoke to was also not very nice and over quoted us as I don't believe we needed as much as he thought... but you get that. Pea Straw- this would be bought in the bale, and spread out. A much cheaper option at $10.20 each and only 3 needed. Needless to say, I chose the later option. Much easier and better on the purse! It is all done and looks great but I forgot to take photos. I will take some this weekend... as I plan to move my herbs and perhaps plant some veggies too...
  9. Exciting news... the fence came down today! The new fence is going in on Monday so Dad and his neighbor agreed to demolish it together to save $$$. It's so old it was pretty much falling down. I have Friday afternoons off and Dad was finishing early... so I headed round to Mum and Dad's for lunch and some fence breaking I got an early start on Dad and had a blast... what stress relief... belting the you know what out of an old fence with a sledge hammer... very cool. I collected my 20 pailings which I'm using for my planters (as above), and they are now stacked behind the shed. This weekend is going to be wet windy and cold... so perhaps next weekend will be the time to build them. As I write this... I have a hot pack on my neck (ear infections in both ears... but getting better), a sore neck, back, wrist and chinny chin chin... where I knocked with the back of the mallet lol ... but I feel great from all the hard work. So, when I get started I'll be sure to post lots of photos...
  10. GREAT photos Pearce... they look really good!
  11. Looks great Good job!
  12. Awww... So sorry mate... I agree with Sunnie. It doesn't matter how long they are around, it still hurts. Just know we are all here for you and know how you are feeling. Biggest hugs xo maesie
  13. My middle name is Mae, which is after my Great Grandma... so maesie is just an extension of that. I also use a lower case m... don't know why... just do. Some people here are calling me maes too... which is fine by me . I choose not to use my real name as I preferred it that way
  14. I believe so... they just need to know who's boss... and you shouldn't have to leave the room!

1.2cm/ 1/2 inch is recomended... so 1.3cm should be fine. I'd be giving it a good scrub down with vinegar and hot water... and then a rinse and dry in the sun. Do you have a photo?
  16. You mentioned that they are all out of the nest box now... Yes? Then I would say they will be fine. Just have it open during th day and closed at night
  17. too funny!!!!!!!!! When I had my youngsters in a large cage before they were sold (I had 5) I came home from work one day to 'missing' bubs! I had a deepish food dish hanging on the side of the cage and could only see two bubs feeding from the top. It wasn't until I went over and opened the door that I found ALL FIVE of them in their  The bottom three were snoozing and the top two were trying to dig under them for some seed...
  18. Not always a good idea as they can think it's a game and keep it up ... then it's 100 times harder to control.
  19. With the time and dedication you spend with her... I'm sure it will come back mate. She just needs to get over her 'teenage' years (which luckily doesn't take as long as human ones!)
  20. I have found covering them helps. When they start up, pop on the cover and don't remove it until they stop. If they begin again... put it back on. They will soon learn that this behavior means they get covered. It has worked for me... I hope it helps you and your ears Please let us know how you all go!
  21. I wouldn't wait... keep trying and offering her millet sounds good. You might have to sit there with your hand/arm in her cage for awhile while she's a bit 'off', but I'm sure she'll come around.

    Way to go!!! Great find
  23. YEAH!!! Good stuff mate!!! We have varying one around here. Some I would never buy ANYTHING from, one is brilliant, from which I buy some birds. All staff are very experienced. They used to clip my birds wings before I learnt how to do it myself, and they have also treated my Bearded Dragon... On a side note. A CHAIN Pet shop here used to sell Reptiles, but they had their license taken away as the cages they were housing them in were unsuitable. Makes you wonder if someone complained or what?!?!
  24. Oh mate... :sadsorry: How's the chances of that hey?!?! Scary stuff ahead. I wish you and your husband all the luck in the world and will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers.
  25. Awww Hugs to you and Milly :sadsorry: . It must be such a hard decision and I wish you well in this choice. I do think it makes things harder because you KNOW STUFF... if you know what I mean... Good luck mate
