  1. Great stuff. Maybe peas and corn are a good next step? I know mine love them. I have them in the freezer and pour some hot water over them to thaw out. You could try mixing some of them with some seed (only a little at a time as if they don't eat it, you'll have to throw it out) Mine seem to love picking them out of their veggie mix, playing with them and 'de-husking' each one
  2. I'd leave the heat on for her and see how she is in the morning. Others might have more of an idea thought... but with those symptoms, I'm not sure.
  3. Does she have any staining about her nostils?
  4. If she was about to lay an egg, she's have an egg bum and have big sloppy poos
  5. Does she look sick? Have you got a light on her for warmth? Can you give her a drop of calcivit on her beak (this will help if she is having trouble laying) Doe she have an egg bum/large runny droppings?

Her feathers are looking a million times better already Deb. She's a sweetie
  7. Great shots as always Pearce... Thanks for sharing
  8. No worries 'mum' lol... and Kaz has confirmed 'above'. I've never had to handrear or even help any chicks so I don't like to give advice without back up form other experieced members. Good luck and I hope s/he is well fed in the morning  You'll know if it's been fed! It may not be bursting but you'll be able to see some yellow in there!
  9. Great stuff 'granny' I 'believe' first thing in the morning (not 100% sure)... you don't want to bother her in the night as she may get a fright. As to the crop... It wouldn't always be full. The chick gets fed often and just after feeding it can often be bulging!!! It will empty/begin to and then mum will feed again.

Ouch is right!! Though i have to say i'm used to her vice grip now, it just took a while and a lot of beak marks on my fingers. Secretly she's a sweetheart! :wine She is a doll... I can imagine your fingers must be mighty tough now... but watch those lips!!! (unless you want a piercing there lol)
  11. It will be okay! Sometimes they just need a little something to pick them up and get them to 'squark' for some tucker from mum.
  12. I would... I'd also follow Kaz's advice re this as she's probably done it a million times. Good luck
  13. They are sweet Kaz.

Awwwwwwwwwww Thanks for posting them! And check out Zoe's beak OUCH!!! lol :rip:
  15. Congratulations! I hope Mum starts doing her job soon and you get many more to join your 'latest addition' :rip:
  16. Unfortunately, there are probably heaps of people out there that keep pets (not just budgies) in horrible living conditions. As much as we don't like seeing it, there isn't a whole lot you can do about it. Reporting them usually does nothing, confronting them can often back fire, and keeping an eye on the situation will drive you up the wall. I'm sorry you have to live next door to the likes of them
  17. And that's okay with you??? I give up!!!
  18. Awwww, THANKS SO MUCH for sharing! They are just too cute.

Welcome back It sure sounds like your year has been full on. I'm glad things have quietened down for now... and I also look forward to meeting your newest members of your family.
  20. :tut_tut: Some people!!! I'm so glad you got him back and none of the others got out! I use cable ties on my doors. I have a black cage and you can't even see the ties... Also... if you get the padlocks with the combination... you don't have to remember to take the key with you, just remember the numer.
  21. maesie replied to splat's topic in Aviaries
I used to have a paved aviary but was sick of ants and mice climbing in through the bottom. With much help form here and especially Dave, I decided to concrete it. I used rapid set concrete, poured it out and spread in around and down the cracks... then added water. It worked quite well. It's not real flat as it was hard to get access and if I did it again, I'd do it in sections, but it serves its purpose. Here's My topic if you want to have a read

Thanks for sharing... looking good. The bubs are cute too and the second photo looks a lot like my girls
  24. Thats why i said in the first post she was supposed to be to young but she isn't she has already had 9 babies her self and her sister had 3 the other day and one of her mates had one today she has always been in with others and always been like she has she is still sitting on eggs at the moment other birds have recently been born in their with her and she has left hatched bubs alone it is working how else would i of had lots of success with baby birds. Just because her and her sister have had that many babies... does not mean they are old enough to breed. Can you post some photos of these hens??? As to you saying it is working for you... a responsible breeder would have done something about the situation before she killed/destroyed all the eggs you say she did. In my book that is not "lots of success". I'm not saying you don't know your birds and love them, as I'm sure you do. I'm just a little confused...
  25. You are if you are breeding under aged hens in an environment CLEARLY not working for you and your birds.
