  2. Yumo. My teils will love it. My budgies not so much... unless it's corn or native branches, they're not to keen... , atleast two out of eight will eat it. I'm glad I can freeze it so it will last longer. Thanks for that Ravengypsy, will be trying it this weekend.
  3. What a great setup. Sounds and looks like you've got everything covered, including the weather . The video was cute also and shows just how much your budgies love it too :(Laughing out loud):

Really interesting stuff there Norm. I'm scared of Bees. I've never been stung, but have a massive fear of them. I don't run if I see them, but freak out if they're flying around near me... good on you though, great hobby.
  7. Very cute Bec... love that photo of them all eating the millet. mmm millet, It'll make them do anything :hap:
  8. Yep, agree 100% Kaz, I'm all for chances, as long as our advice is taken note of... :hap: okay, enough of that by me... Joey, what was your question about breeding show birds? Ask away...
  9. maesie replied to Bec Sta's topic in Budgie Pictures
Oh Bec, she cute as... love her colours! What a lucky bird to now belong to your family.
  10. Joey, I went over your prevous posts as I wasn't around when you posted them... Owning a pet is a huge resposibility. They are dependant on you for everything... from food, water, love and MEDICAL CARE. Everyone should realise that owning a pet is a privilege, not a right. We have a lot of great people on this forum(both young and older ) who not only care about their own birds, but everyone else's as well. We are hear because we LOVE our birds, and are prepared to look after them properly (as we hope others will also) Please keep that in mind if you're planning on sticking around this time.
  11. Good on you! What a cutie... and a very lucky budgie.
  12. They look so cute and seem to be comming along nicely! In this photo above, it looks very cosy
  13. He's cute as!!!!
  14. Nice birds Kaz... what's this one?
  15. Going to buy one and ending up with many... sounds like what many of us here do Great looking birds though, I like Billie
  16. Oh Kaz, the poor little bub!!! At least you've got some great fosters to take over the motherly role with the others. I wonder why some hens do what they do??? I guess they just weren't meant to be mum's but had sex anyway... Like some HUMANS...
  17. When my budgies were colony breeding (which I would never do again) my females were intent on killing each other (dispite having more nest boxes than hens)... as a result some of them are missing toes etc... They seem to be fine now that there are no nest boxes, apart from small family fights (Laughing out loud)... I'm sure yours will be fine though. Good idea to fill the make shift nests (holes), they lay anywhere :budgiedance: maesie xxx

Mothers... :budgiedance: You may even find he relates to his 'bird' toy also as a mate. They have been known to MATE them too... Yeah, go for some more toys and give him time. Sometimes some birds are just nippy. Lets just hope he tones it down a little (for your sake). Sounds like you are pretty cluey and know what's best for him :(Laughing out loud): . Good on you and good Luck. maesie xxx
  19. Oh Flame, hope you get better soon. I agree, never trust 'mixed' species!!!!!!!

Must be the season for newbies :budgiedance: The more the merrier I say. Welcome Kathy, Sunnie and Sweetpea. I'm sure you'll love it here. Yeah, there is SOOOOOO much info and so many great people to give personal advice. There is always someone around to chat to. I trust you will love this place as much as I do and I look forward to getting to know you and your 'family'. maesie xxx (bring on the photos when you figure out how to do it. Just remeber to resize)

Wecome to you and Chester. The mistake you made (don't worry, we all make them and learn from them) was to give him a mirror. When you removed it, he saw it as you were removing his 'mate', and that is why he gets cross at you. My suggestion would be to start again with training him. You can look up tips in the FAQ's for specific tips. You'll just have to talk to him, put your hand in his cage and take it slowly. It's best not to react when he bites, but I know from EXPERIENCE tht this can be very, very, very hard to do :budgiedance: Persistance is the key... and work at his rate, not yours. Once you can get him to come to you and step up (possibly with a millet bribe), you'll then be able to let him out and get him back eaiser. He will learn to love you again and see you as his 'mate' Best of luck and let us know how you go! maesie xxx

Hi and welcome to the forum. I've only been here a few months and everyone is very helpfull and friendly. I'm sure you'll learn lots. I started by reading the FAQ's and old posts relating to what I wanted to learn. Sorry to hear about Charlie, it can be very hard to get over the loss of special pets. Sounds like Billie is a darling, can't wait to see your pics. I'm not real good with sexing, so I'll leave it to someone else. She'll get over her scare eventually. I would give her a day or so (just so she's not freaking out) and I would ALL continue to handle/play with/talk to etc... with her. She will get used to you all again. If you were to let your hubby do all the work, I'd worry she'd become a little over protective of him, and be harder for you to break into 'their' friendship. Just a thought. If you want to give her some space though, you can. You know her better, and just do what you think is best for her. Keep us updated on her progress. Enjoy... maesie xxx
  23. Oh, they are the cutest chicks ever!!!! mmm wish I had some little ones. maesie xxx
  24. The cage looks great Kathy. I'm sure your newbie will love it when he/she arrives. As to getting an avairy... yeah!!! I have an avairy outside with budgies in one half and cockatiels in the other half. They love talking, singing and screaming(tiels) to each other and the wild birds. I'm sure you'll all love what ever you end up getting. Good Luck! maesie xxx
  25. maesie replied to Loren's topic in Budgie Talk
Oh Loren So very sorry for the loss of Romeo. May he rest in peace. It's so hard to make sure they don't eat things they shouldn't, especailly because they are always into everything!!! The metal may not have been there the first time you took him in, and even if it was, and it was causing the symptions, it was probably too late then anyway (I think once poisoning shows its self it is usually too late, esp. with smaller animals) Please try not to blame yourself though. You took him to the vet when you were worried about him, that's more than some lousy pet owners do!. He knows you loved him and that he will always have a special place in your heart. (((((((((hugs))))))) maesie xxx
