My New Boys - Benny & Charlie
Great photos. I'm not an expert on rings, but because they both have '07' on their rings, I'd be assuming they were both born last year? (If they were ringed correctly). Maybe Charlie the beginning of last year, and Benny the end of last year??? So 14mths and 3mths ?????? (that's going on a jan and dec hatching as an example) To the wing clipping... both wings should always be clipped (if that's what you choose to do) If you want them clipped for ease of handling, training and catching, get the other one done. If you don't wish to clip... just wait for the other one to grow out. This website addictive.... NOOOOO never!!! (says someone who had racked up over 1000 posts in under 4mths :budgiedance: ) Your other pets look like they're keeping a close eye on the newbies, and I'm really glad they had a good first night!

Scaley Face
mmm That's a hard one... I'd prob say not to do it, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm sure the other more experienced members will have more of an idea.

Help!
Firstly welcome to you and your birds. You've definately come to the right place! If your budgie is only 1 1/2 months old she SHOULDN'T be breeding! They have to over 12mths old. I would remove all breeding boxes. I would also take her to an avain vet. She doesn't sound too well at all. Until you can get her to a vet, put her in a small cage inside, a dark, quiet room. Good luck, keep us updated and I hope she makes it through the night... it does sound worring though!

Double Yolk
I dont think so . The double yolk egg seems to be laid randomly, and the three hens arent related. Ive been breeding since I bought my house in 2000 and Ive had double yolkers on and off since then so to see one isnt highly unusual , but to finally see one fertile is for me . So who knows whats going to happen. Cool... interesting to know! I hope this one works out for you... having twins might add a few more grey hairs to your head!!! Grey hairs I think I can handle ,but after reading your mouse prob I think greys hairs are better than pulling your hair out. :budgiedance: I'd definately agree there!!! I'd swap grey hairs for the ones I've pulled out over the past few days!!!

Is My Budgie Sick?
Sorry to hear about your budgie. I'd definately be booking in first thing in the morning to an avian vet. In the mean time... dark, quiet room, warm lamp (and any meds the others have recommended if you canget them) Being an inside budgie and then an outside budgie with no gradual transition could have shown up some hidden weakness in your budgie's immune system, or it may be stress that has then developed into something else over time. Hopefully your vet will be able to provide you some answers tomorrow. Good luck for tonight and tomorrow and please keep us updated.

Big Grey And His Tiny Hen....
How exciting!!! As to her always having two chicks... maybe she knows she can only look after two very well, and something in her body etc makes only two fertile eggs (that sounded better in my head :grbud: )?????? They both look really good. Can't wait to see how they turn out.

Eeeeekkkkkk
The second night had mixed results. I set three traps again, and this morning all were empty BUT one was licked clean!!! :yelling: So, I either put too much peanut butter on it, the trap was caught, the mice around here have go go gadget necks, one mouse had another mouse on his shoulders and he ate it off, the got a stick proped open the trap while they feasted and then removed it........ or I was just unlucky!!! Tonight I'll be removing the outside trap and putting it where the inside ones are so they'll be two where the little ***** get in, and one on the shelf they used as their toilet! They will not outsmart ME!!!!!!!!!

My New Boys - Benny & Charlie
Hi Liv, Charlie's markings do seem to be more brown than black. I also have another question. I have a big black sheet to drape over the cage. Should I completely cover the whole cage, or leave a little gap for some light to come in? Do birds normally go to sleep on the perch, or on the bottom of the cage. Should there be anything solid on the bottom of the cage (ours just has the wires, then the tray under the wires). Also, we have a variety of native bushes in our garden. Gum trees, banksias, etc. I was going to put some natural branches in the cage. Is there any plants or species of tree that is best, or that I should avoid? Thanks With the sheet, cover the cage leaving a small gap to allow some light to get it. It might be a good idea to leave a lamp on or something too... Any native branches are fine. If they're from your garden at least you know they haven't been sprayed. Just hose them down to remove poo etc and then add them. If you can find some nice strong ones, use them to replace the ones your cage came with... varying thickness are good. While your at it... give them some leave etc... to chew on. I'd also be introducing them to veggies etc... mine love corn and carrot (check out our FAQ's for more) They prob wont eat them straight away, but if you start giving them to them every day/every second day, they'll soon try them. And... if you start them early, it may not take as long!!! Check these out! Safe wood Fruit and Veggies

I'm not good with that stuff Dave... but I'm sure someone else will have an opinion

Double Yolk
Good plan. Do you think it's in the genes too? Would a twin budgie be more likely to lay a double yolker?? Like Kaz's twin???

The Twin....steel .....growing Up
NICE! I can't wait to see the outcome of the chicks... some beautiful colours I'm guessing

My New Boys - Benny & Charlie
No worries... I'd prob take out the shoe box. They don't really need to go into it... if however it makes you feel better to leave it in tonight, you could, but I'd definately remove it tomorrow. Your boys are adorable... regardless of ages. I hope they sleep well tonight.xxx

Exciting stuff Kaz. They do make a very sweet couple!!!

My New Boys - Benny & Charlie
They are cute as! Charlie is definately a boy, but not young. His cere is very blue and he has no bars on his forhead. Benny looks younger, and maybe a boy but it's a bit hard to see from the photos. Your cage looks fantastic. My thoughts on Charlie and his tameness. I think he was previously owned and tamed by someone else, and has been sold to the pet shop for re-homing. It would be very unusual to buy a pet shop budgie that has spent all his life in a pet shop, to be happy to sit on your shoulder just hours after you get him. One bonus is that he is 'pre tamed' if not a baby

Budgie For Kids Pet
Charlie & Benny... cute. (Both could be altered if need be) I'm glad they're checking things out. As to THAT Pet shop!!!!! Maybe trans-gender is the 'new' mutation?!?! He would have been better to say nothing than that ****. If you need help posting pics click here if that doesn't help, feel free to PM me or one of the other mods. Just remember to keep your photos under 450x450 pixels.

New Aviary...
Running out of time is something I think we all face at times... How many budgies v's tiels do you have. I think the issue with housing them together is the budgies are much more 'annoying' and tend to both the tiels. Do they have play time together in the house? How does that go? In time, I'm sure they'll get on fine. The initial what the? might cause some headaches. I tried introducing my budgies and tiels yesterday (opened up the divider between them). One of my female budgies flew in to visit. She wasn't attacked, just followed around. She was in there for about 5 minutes. Good luck and let us know how things go!

Budgie For Kids Pet
Awsome news! I'm very happy for you and your family (esp. Danielle). Putting the box in the cage and letting them come out on their own is a good idea... just have the lid open a bit so they can see out etc... Also, if you have the cage partly covered and in a quite room, they'll be more likely to come out. Along with the pictures of your new 'grandchildren', a picture of your cage/setup would also be awsome... once they settle in that is. As they are very new, don't be too worried if they don't eat/drink much and have runny poos. This is usually a sign of stress and should pass in a few days. If you have some millet on hand, this can usually temp them to eat. Congratulations again, and enjoy!!! :(Laughing out loud): (P.S. Don't forget to change your profile... It now needs to read that you own 2 budgies, not 0. )

Ivermectin - No Longer The Recommended Treatment For Mites?
No didn't take any birds with me. We used to be regulars at that vets when we lived in that area and still had an account there. Apparently this is just a new spray that they prefer to treat mites with? mmm. Hopefully if I ever need it again, they wont give that spray to me!!! Ivermecton is so easy to use. Kaz might have to set up supply centre for all the stuff we can't get over here!!!
