  1. Great photos Feathers!!! I must say, I LOVE your veggie feeder. What a great idea. Can I use something similar in my aviary? I may be able to adapt something similar with an ant proof attachment to stop the little **** from getting the fresh food (mine aren't as eager as yours. My ants LOVE water and climb everywhere to get any vegies or damp seed.

Yeah... boy from me too. I think I said boy originally too, so there you go... but I can never be too sure until they are a little older. He is a sweetie!
  4. Thanks for that... yep. I'm keeping a very close eye on them BOTH!

My masterpiece :glare: has not quite set yet!!! I havn't been able to get in the aviary to clean everything down yet and re-decorate. The first section is set-ish but the others not so much... so the birds are in for a LONG night. I have two tiels in a cage, and I pulled out one of my breeding cages (nest box gone) so three budgies in that and three in the other cage. All thre cages are sitting on a table in the set-ish section of the aviary. When I put them down there and covered them up they weren't real happy. I sat down with them and gave them a good talking to about the do's and don't's of the night... so hopefully all will be well in the morning. I'll be getting up early so I can get them loose asap. mmm lets all remember the packet said... Sets in 15 mins!!! Says who??? So, my last day off over easter was going to be to relax... not anymore!!! grrr I must admit, although it's not real smooth, it's not real prety and it's not really good... I'm pretty damn pleased with myself. I'll be sure to post some pics when it's done as I'm adding a bench type shelf in the aviary if I get time tomorrow. Thanks for checking!!!
  6. Your son burnt it!!! Naughty naughty... Thanks all for your ideas thus far. It's great to hear what others are doing...
  7. Sorry about your 'find'. I hope he makes it through or goes quickly with little pain and discomfort. (((((hugs))))) to you. (and Kaz, sorry for your loss also xxx) :angel1: Maesie xoxo
  8. All sounds good and I'm glad your little pale one is still with us. Good luck with ringing those you wish to.

So you'll be round in a few hours yeah??? Thanks Dave, I couldn't have done it without your online help!
  10. Fingers crossed xxx
  11. Thanks all... I have seen them mate a few times but she is not laying them on the floor, so I'm not worried about them having a clutch in the aviary. She doesn't seem to be too worried by him... at times she just tells him where to go. When they're in the aviary they have plenty of things to play with and I'm trying to add native branches more often to keep 'his' mind off his manly needs. The daylight is an issue as they're in an aviary were the daylight is controlled by mother nature. I'll keep an eye on them...

:hap: It was a bit of a worry as I'm home alone... Could have been a very long afternoon!
  13. Thanks KAZ!!!
  14. Hello and welcome to the forums. Your english is perfect... no issues here! Elly gave some good advice... I'll just add by suggesting you check out our FAQ's for a wealth of information... especially Taming Your Budgie, which was written by Elly. Good luck and we'd love to see some pitures when they arrive. Please feel free to keep us updated on their progress when you begin and remember we are all hear to help, so ask anything you want!
  15. So... I'm having a bit of an issue. One of my males Tweet Tweet (TT) has a girlfriend, Crackle. They had a clutch of eggs in Nov/Dec but she left them and they didn't hatch. Well... he is a sex machine... He is constantly after her, and when she was inside with an illness he was after another hen. Crackle is sometimes interested... he feeds her, preens her etc... but when it comes to the down and dirty, she tries to get away... "I have a headache dear... not today etc..." We all know the drill . My question is this. I have a large mirror which I'm thinking about putting in the aviary. Do you think he will find this and decide to display his manhood towards this and leave poor crackle alone? Or will this cause problems? I know the whole 'if you want your bird to bond with you don't give them a mirror' but that's not my issue. If I wasn't going overseas in three weeks I'd let them try for another clutch but the timing is not right and I can't expect my Dad to have to worry about breeding problems as well as looking after the general wellbeing of my birds and lizards. It's just not fair... So any thoughts would be great...

Well... the concrete is down and I'm having some lunch and catching up on some posts/topics. I'm very unfit and had had enough after the initial preparation/cleaning . This is how my day has panned out thus far... I put together the two quaritine spare cages, gathered my supplies (net and gloves) and headed into the avairy... As soon as Bert and Ernie saw the net they were carrying on like I was about to probe them for something untowards... mmm. I actually ended up catching them no worries and the budgies were a breeze also. 1 point to me! Their time in the small cages has been mixed. Bert and Ernie have been fine and Ernie has now started 'talking' so he must not be too stressed. The Budgies... well. They are like a group of children stuck inside on a wet day. They go from sitting nicely one minute, to squabbling the next. "you're too close, you looked at me funny, your feather is touching mine..." and if that's not bad enough, Tweet Tweet is trying to 'do' Crackle on the bottom on the cage. He had her on her back and he was on top of her... classy!!! Needless to say I've had to tell them off many times and if you were one of my neighbours you'd think I was nuts!!! (you get that (Laughing out loud)) So, back to the real work. After cleaning out the aviary, I proceeded to lug these huge bags of concrete into the aviary (((hang on, it's raining and I have stuuf on the lawn.... arrrrrrrrr)) okay... I'm back... yeah, so I had to carry these bags into the aviary on my own!!! My parents went out for the day so I was a solo worker... After quite some time raking and pouring, I was ready for the water... well the hose sprung a leak, the trigger ends I wanted to use with the light spray bit were broken, I got covered in water... but I did get the concrete wet and spread. It's not real flat, but not bad for a first timer in a small aviary ON MY OWN!!! So... the pack says 15mins... mmm I don't think so!!! It's been just under an hour. But, I didn't expect it to be hard in that time anyway... come on peoples... I wait... I eat... I type... I read... I listen to the words from Ernie and the screetching from the budgies... I check on the hardness of the concrete even though I know full well it wont be ready... mmm I'll leave my story here for now... nothing else to report...

Great stuff! It looks fantastic. Where do I get myself one of those "Dave's" ?!?!
  18. Whoo hoo... I'm very excited for you. What a fab birthday present.
  19. The rings can stay on. Mine bite there's from time to time but they don't seem to be too worried about them. If you want to remove them, I'd get a vet or experienced breeder to do it. Budgie's wriggle around when they don't want to be held and trying to cut something off their legs while they are doing this would be quite hard...
  20. Definately don't worry! She's not going to die because of her feet... I agree with Phoebe about the lack of something when in the egg. I wouldn't be listening to your friend on that one
  21. Me too... But I'm finding I waste a far bit of seed in the green/white feeders as I clear away the husks... Kaz'z feeders are the base of a pedestal fan... I think it's just a pair of legs on top and bottom (bottom for legs and top for a flat platform for food) I'm sure she'll correct me if I'm wrong! :budgiedance:
  22. Ewwwww, I can imagine! They make my skin crawl. I'd rather a whitetail or red back on me then a huntsman... even though they are harmfull/deadly... I think it's the fact they are huge and hairy!!!!
  23. I will wait....................
  24. Yah, but...What ... no pictures???
