Hello and welcome. Your birds are cute. I love 'talkers'
  2. Thanks Neat and Norm. This hen left her nest last year when she had a full nest of eggs and when I check on her progress now, she always moves out of the box. I really don't want to upset her and make her leave them. Staying put might be an idea. I'd hate for her to loose another clutch because of me. I must put her and her eggs first... mmmmm
  3. Awwwww. Those photo's with the teddy bears are very sweet. I bet you're an awsome mummy!
  4. If you've seen attempts of mating, they may actually accomplished the deed when you weren't looking. A quick 'hello ladies' and it's done... it doesn't take much
  5. Great captions.... and photos. You are very talented and have a great 'queen'

Nice to learn more about you. We are a great group of friendly people with a common interest. This forum is my second family and I have made many friends I will have for life. I have a feeling you'll fit in perfectly
  7. Yeah, thanks all. I've crossed everything possible and will try to keep busy. Bea... I so can't wait. I can go out and not have to tell anyone when I'll be back. I'll do chores when I want, I can sleep in on weekends unill whenever... I could go on and on :nest:
  8. Hey Tam... all birds are different, like us humans I guess! Some are quiet and shy, some are loud and proud. Age does play a part, but some birds are just harder and more work to train than others. You'll need to keep at it, do it often (daily at the minimum). Keep positive, celebrate the small steps and remember to work at a pase he is comfortable at :nest:

So true Sunnie!!! When I first breed my budgies, I thought they were just adorable. I had heaps of great young photos... but my friends and family said they looked like ET... I guess a mother's love is blind
  10. Thanks MB, Deb and Pie. If only you lived close to me I'd jump at the offer :nest: It also seems all the good birds are over there too!!! lol
  11. That's all normal nesting behaviour. She is preparing the nest for laying and it's a positive sign she is going in there... As to the actual mating, it is often not seen or heard :nest:
  12. :nest: = 2!!! This arvo we are up to 2 bum nuts!!! Very exciting. I have one question. I know it is a big no no to move breeding cages/boxes after laying has started. If I do find a new unit to move into soon (see other topic in Off topic), I'll need to move them. I don't plan on moving the avairy birds straight away, as I'm buying a new one and want to see where the sun falls, rain direction etc... before getting a new one. I'll be leaving them in the old avairy at home until then where Dad will help lookafter them. However, I do not trust Dad (sorry Dad), or expect him to look after and check twice daily the breeding pair, eggs and then hopefully chicks. I'm sure I'll be able to find a nice quiet inside place for the breeding cage, but not sure how to go about making the move when it comes. Do I leave the eggs in the nest box and just top it up with extra wood shavings so they don't roll around, or do I remove them. I don't want to risk her deserting them... ummmmmm, what to do?!?!
  13. Well, over the past few weeks, I think I've spent more time on real estate websites than here Been fun but like you guys more!!! lol I've found many places I liked but pets are not permitted. I have viewed two places. One last night... and all I will say was that it was not a place I would want my worst enemy to live in... BUT tonight, I have found the perfect (well near enough) unit for me. Great location, bigish yard (will fit an avairy :hap: ), lots of cupboard space... I could go on... I can have my lizards and birds, but not my Cat :hap: I'll miss having her around, but due to her age (she's 13), we weren't sure she'd deal with a move anyway. My theory is that if she is not there... I could have an inside bird or quarantine birds inside!!!!!! YAH for me!!!!!!!! Um... applied striaght away, but because it's friday, I probably wont find out until middle of next week. Going to be the longest days of my life. I really love it and can see myself living there... but am trying really hard not to get excited as there were a few interested people there... So, here comes the favour: please, please, please send all your well wishes, prayers, good thoughts etc... my way and hopefully together we can make it happen!!! :hap: Thanks all, maesie xxx
