  1. Thanks Norm, Neat and all. I guess because I'd be moving the whole thing... nesting box and cage, and I'd not be disconnecting the two... it might not be such an issue. I guess I'll tackle that issue when the time comes... Thanks for your advice and input. It does ease my mind somewhat. My thinking is that a move and me looking after them and checking twice daily, would be better than not moving and then me only checking every few days... Esp with the weeks and months ahead with eggs, babies etc...
  2. ... I'll check out our local council as well. Better to be safe than sorry!
  3. Maesie Just make sure that the agent knows what you are going to do. With mine I had to agree to replace the turf where the aviary is sitting whenever I leave. Some agents/owners may not accept having an aviary in the yard. You don't want to move in put up the aviary and then have a bun fight with the agents and risk eviction. Derek Yep, thanks for that. I have spoken to the Agent (of the place I have applied for) and she said an Aviary wouldn't be an issue. Once I am in and settled, I'll measure up the backyard and figure out which way the weather comes etc... and then approach them with my ideas. I definately don't want to go to all that hastle to then have to pull it down. If I don't happen to get this place, I'll be doing this with all the places I apply for. I don't see the point in lying... I'd rather be honest... as an aviary is not something you can hide when they come around for an inspection . Maesie (P.S. Sorry for butting in on your thread)
  4. I used an exterior matt acrylic. Make sure it doesnt have an of those mould inhibitors in it. Thanks!
  5. I used to have pavers on the bottom of my old avairy, but had big issues with ants climbing up and seed and poo going down the cracks. I wanted to avoid this if possible.
  6. = 3 All is still going well. Crackle was out of the nest box when I went outside. I got a quick look and saw three eggs, before she hurried back to them. TT got a feast of fresh corn on the cob and silverbeet, which he was quick to start attacking!!!
  7. Hey Derek, I'm just about to start renting too, so will need to have a floor similar to yours. Can I ask what you painted the floor with? I'll need to do the same to seal it etc... but was just worried about the safety of the birds if they try and eat it Cheers, Maesie
  8. Thanks Libby. We thought his name was appropariate too :hap:
  9. :hap: I was thinking the same thing. At times I do swear a bit, but can't say I've ever used any versions of the word Kuda lol!!!!!
  10. Thanks The Pie for the proof read!!! :hap: I knew I shouldn't try doing chores while writing it... It was Kuta beach MB. I missed a letter lol... All fixed! Was awsome and thanks both for your attention to detail! :hap:
  11. Some extra shots I couldn't fit in: This is the memoral for the Bali Bombings. It was a very touching and emotional moment. This bat was hanging just outside our window A beach at Dreamland Aboard the Bounty Cruise This is a photo of the boys in a field. For those of you who like The Beatles... I call this my 'Bali ABY ROAD' photo
  12. Firstly, I must apoligise for this taking so long. I've kind of being putting it off because I knew it would be hard to write about my two weeks in bali in a small post and narrow down my hundreds of photos... but here goes! Three weeks ago today I headed off on my first overseas trip to Bali with my best mate, her husband and their friend. It was nothing like I expected. I had been told what is was like, but I guess until you go there you never really know. The heat hit me as soon as I got off the plane. It takes all of your energy away and makes you really tired. It took me a couple of days to ease into it and then I kind of enjoyed sweating like a pig :hap: ... We were met at the airport by my friends friend who went over a few days earlier, and his Bali friend Jimmy. Jimmy is an absolute darling. He is married with a son, is the kindest most sweetest person I have ever met. He drove us around, carried our things and was just a real gentleman. On our first day we went shopping and I bought three handbags, heaps of jewelery and lots of clothes. He carried all of my things for me. I love him to bits and will be keeping in touch. Jimmy We stayed at the Adi Darhma Hotel. It was simple, yet divine. We had a pool, restaurant, meditation room and spa/massage area. I had a massage, pedicure and manicure, and then also for my birthday I had three hours of pampering which consisted of a foot bath, massage, body scrub, body steam, body sooth (yoghurt which kinda stunk really bad!!!), flower bath, shower and facial. It was $35 all up and was the perfect way to start my birthday. I was also surprised at breakfast by a CAKE!!! and the staff singing me happy birthday. Everyone clapped along and I had to wear a banana leaf hat. Very sweet. Adi Dharma Hotel The hotel pool A statue I liked The morning of my Birthday Apart from the day trips we did, we shopped around Kuta. I bought so much stuff... handbags, thongs/shoes, jewelry (we found a great place where each piece was 50 cents each), clothes DVD's ($1 each and the more you buy, the more free ones you get. Crazy I know), Indonesian items- statues etc..., I could go on. I also bought a big bag to take it all home in My favourite shop was this huge handbag shop... all the brand names and really cheap, followed closely by the jewelry shop! It was also bizare to walk the streets as everyone is saying... "pretty lady, you like, you buy", etc... and when you are shopping, they are all over you. I did however enjoy bargaining. They always give you a very high price and you then give them a massive cheap one... you go from there. Sometimes you even have to walk out and they'll follow you down the street to agree to your price... I got the hang of it pretty quickly and loved it. The restaurants were great. Wa ate at a place who 'made the best pizza in the world'. It was pretty damn good. We had a massive variety of food and I enjoyed everything. We also had McDonalds delivered to our hotel room... just because we could!!! I ordered room service one night when the others went out and got Chicken satay... the BEST satay I have ever eatern!!!! Yummmo!!! Satay Chicken mmmm Eating out I got hair extentions and braids twice. The first time it was done in a street shop and took about 2 1/2 hours, but because we swam a lot etc it fell out. I got it done again just before we left and I still have it in today. It took 4 hours. My best friend also got her hair cut. It cost her $1.50 and was brilliant. My hair is usually quite short but it is now down to my elbows. I LOVE it! We went on many day trips as well. We saw temples, beaches, elephant and monkeys, and went on a cruise and to Waterbom Park... We went to Monkey forest up in/near Ubud. It was awsome. We fed them bananas and these red things. They followed us around and even climbed on us. Very sweet. I was kind of scared at the start as heaps of them saw us comming and just bombarded us, but you got used to it after a while. Also whilst there I held a massivly heavy and huge Python. Now I do own lizards, but I have never touched let alone held a snake. I am very scared of them. This one had it's mouth taped together (made me more worried as to why they had to do this). I'm glad I did it as now I can tick that off the list of things I want to do before I die. Monkeys... The monkey we liked to call BIG NUTS :hap: The snake and I. My facial expressions are because he just looked at me and hissed... aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh We went to Waterbom Park, which is a big park with heaps of water slides. I was quite hung over (see below) but did go on a few. My bestie and I went on this huge one where you lie on a mat face first and race each other to the bottom. Great fun and I won both times!!! Yah for me! The best experience by far was riding the elephants. Before we left for Bali I decided I really wanted to do it, but would decide on the day... depending on how they were cared for, there conditions etc... We got there and I was sold. They were so beautiful, graceful and I was in love!!! We rode around in a chair on their back for 45mins. The trainer/carer was just behind his head. It was amazing!!! Then when we retured I got to get off the chair and sit just behind his ears. We went into the water, stood on a small stool and raised up into the air. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't ******** myself, but would do it all over again. Our Elephant was called Tony. There are not enough words to describe this experiece and how it made me feel!!! We didn't go 'clubbing' as such, but drank at many eating spots. I did have one big night (I'm not much of a drinker), which involved street dancing with random indonesians and singing with a band... we'll leave it at that shall we. On our last night (we flew out at midnight) we went down and ate near Kuta Beach to watch the sunset. Magical... I'll leave it there for now. This was definatly a life changing experience for me. I thought a lot about many things and made some big decisions. I got to know myself more, and believe I am a better person because of these things... mmmmm, wish I was there again...
  13. Awww Kaz, they are so cute and I love their colours. I agree with Norm on two points... that last photo is so cute AND you should enter it in Budgie of the month (if you're not judging it) :hap:

hey maesie, i have already offered a holiday in nsw maybe i should make it a working holiday for you. :hap: :hap: ... with my pay being an all expenses paid holiday?!?! I like it...
  15. maesie replied to deb's topic in Aviaries
Is someone talking about ME? :hap: Yeah Deb and Dave. That's what I did, and with Dave's excellent advice and guidance, it worked a treat. My issues were with seed and poo going down the cracks and the time it took to clean it all and ants and mice getting it through them also. Since concreteing over it, I have had no mice and no sign of ants at all!!!!!!!! And it's sooooooo easy to clean! Unfortunatly I'm about to start renting so will need a temporary idea for a floor, so back to the drawing board, but the concrete has been the best flooring idea so far. I wish I had done it sooner. Good luck and if I was closer I'd offer to help you :hap:
  16. Hello and welcome. I agree with what the others have said. I wouldn't get ridd of one of them, just do the one on one taming. There is a post by one of our moderators which is about her taming journey: Hobbes & Claire's Taming Journal, and there is also a good artical in our FAQ's also written by another moderator: Taming your budgie. Both should be quite helpful. As to them escaping when you first brought them home. You catching them would have scared them and made then nervious of you and your hands, but over time and with your hard work, they should get over that. You are also correct in saying that all budgies are different... some budgies are easy to tame, some are hard andsome don't tame at all. Good luck and keep us informed on your progress with Ernie and Elmo. Love their names by the way. I have two cockatiels called Bert and Ernie.
  17. That's too cute!!! You'll see it eventually. I'm glad he is settling in nicely.
  18. As you may have noticed, we have had many new members joining up, and also a lot of behind the scenes work on the forum. Welcome to those new members and thanks to all involved in the updating process. Due to both of these, I thought it might be handy to remind everyone of a few rules that must be followed. I have included the links and also the information so please make sure you read them all. Using shortcuts. We have been having some issues with many members using shortcuts in their posts. Most of them are not permitted, and it takes time for the moderators to fix them all up. Our time is better spent working on other areas of the forum. Could everyone read the information below. Please make yourself familar with them. I know now days many people use short cuts while on MSN and mobiles, but it is not hard to get used to using proper english. Internet Text Shortcuts (or slang). (What is meant by this: Enuf, luv, thanks, woz, plz, phun and so on.) There are many, many people of all ages and languages that frequently visit this forum. English is hard enough for some people when it is their native language. There are people that post here that English is a second or even third language. Not everyone knows what shortcuts mean. It is like slang - if you're not from that area you don't understand what is being said. We want this forum to be as friendly, fun, and informative for everyone as we can make it, and one way we do that is to not allow text shortcuts in posts. It is not difficult to type your responses using proper English. However, we do allow a select few of the very commonly known internet shortcuts which are listed right here: LOL (Laughing Out Loud), brb (be right back) and OMG (Oh My God). Members may only use these selected internet text shortcuts when it is appropriate. If you are found using text shortcuts in your posts and messages you will be contacted and asked to stop. If you fail to comply with our requests on this rule we will then take appropriate administrative action against your account. Here is the direct link to this information: Board term and Conditions We have also had a lot of picture of late being posted oversize. This also means more work for the staff as they all need to be turned into links and a reminder posted in each post. We have also changed the allowable size for photos as well, so I thought a refresher of how to post pictures would be handy too. How to post images. Picture/Image Sizes: MUST be 640 x 480 pixels or under. It is understood that not all images can be resized exactly, but if this is the case, you must attempt to get the pixel dimensions down to as close to 640 x 480 as possible. Sizes deemed to large by Administrators or Moderators may be removed from posts. Follow this to upload your photos to the forum for use in any post you make: 1. Join Photobucket and click "Join Up - It's free". Fill out what is needed and upload your pictures by logging into your account. It is a very safe and user friendly service. 2. You will need to click on the tab "my albums" followed by the sub-tab "albums & upload" once logged into your account. This page allows you to select where your images are located. In most cases, this will be on your computer. If this is the case, select "my computer" in the grey section entitled "from" on the left side of your screen. Before clicking "choose files" (which is where you will select your images to upload), be sure to select 320x240 pixels (medium) OR 640x480 pixels (large). SIZE is a big issue with photos, so remember to adjust this before uploading any files. 3. To choose the photos you wish to use, click on "choose files" and you will be directed to your computer files. Select the files you want to upload and click "open". The files will automatically start uploading to Photobucket. If you wish to upload more than one file at a time, you can use the bulk uploader. This link is found just below where you would upload individual files. Photobucket will confirm your upload and ask you to enter image information. Enter this information and click "save and continue". Your photo(s) are now in Photobucket and can be used on our forums. 4. Your uploaded images are now displayed below the image uploader. If you wish, you may click edit. This will take you to the new edit features. In here, you can crop, change colours and do almost anything to your photo. The most important feature is the RESIZE. Click on this button and enter your dimensions. If you make any changes to your image, click save and either overwrite existing image or save another copy. 5. To go back to the main Photobucket screen, click on "albums & uploads" (top left hand corner) 6. To add photos to your post on our forums, go back to the forum making sure you keep your Photobucket page open. Either start a new topic, or reply to one. When you want to add a picture, simply scroll down to the picture you want to add and click on the IMG code. This will copy it. Then go back to your post and paste it there (either ctrl v, or right click and paste). When you preview your topic or post your topic, your photo should appear and be the correct size. Please ensure your photo is the correct size by right clicking on it in your post and selecting "properties" and check the image dimensions. Ensure the dimensions are close to 640x480 pixels. If not, please remove your newly added code and repeat steps 2-6. If you are still unable to get a correctly sized image into your post, please make a new topic in this forum and staff will help you out. By all means you can use other photo editing programs and hosting services, just remember to always put the IMG code into your posts and replies. For members, it can be annoying when you have to click on numerous links to view members photos, just because they can't be bothered resizing or don't know how. Often members will bypass your post and not even read it because of this. Please try to keep to the size limitations and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask any of the staff. We are happy to help if you are willing to have a go and follow the rules. Here is the direct link to this information: How to post pictures Please remember these new sizes do not change the allowable size for signature and avatars. This info can be found in the Board Terms and Conditions. These size restrictions also need to be followed. If either is found to be over sized, you will be notified and given time to re-size or remove it. If this is not done, a staff member will remove it. 19. Great topic! I am an occasional breeder. I breed to re-stock my avairy, therefor I don't do it often, select my pairs carefully and keep all babies
  20. Yep... much clearer!
  21. Lucky I love camping!!! :hap: Sounds great... I'd be approaching place with sketch and ideas in hand... see what they can do for you!
  22. I don't know anything about show budgies, but they look great! What a nice selection too
  23. WOW!!!!!! I'm so jelous!!! Love it. Um... I'll put my two bobs worth in. For ease of building, roofing, diver-ing :hap: I'd have two rows facing each other with an inclosed corridor in the middle (like in primary school where you'd walk down the hall way and you'd have classrooms off either side. Then you could have a series of dividers you could adjust to make the individual avairies smaller or bigger. At one end of the corridor you could have your entry door, at the other end it could lead into a bird room for your supplies etc... as to building it. You could go around to all the shed/avairy suppliers once you have an idea and get them all to quote you, you could also approach some builders, to get that take on things. I can visualise those big long sheds like they have for farm machinery... and you could get them to reduce the height and add wire where you want it. I have found those places very willing to accomidate almost anything. I would say that shed's do heat up unless you prefab them, or if money wasn't an issue have big roller doors to allow for massive air flow and attached a wire bit so when you roll up the door, the wire is there to stop them getting out (kinda like the screen doors we have on homes) Lastly... Feel free to build an extra room for me... I'm already packed and waiting!!!
  24. Good luck with the test results. Other than his feather issues, he looks great! If you get the all clear on the tests, a friend for him would be a great idea. Just remember to quarintine them for 30 days. Let us know how you go
