Hen Plucking Babies
Oh Deb. Sounds like he has one thing on his mind. I would probably remove the male. I'm sure your hen will do a good job raising her chicks on her own. Goodluck and I hope it all goes well. :budgiedance:

Exciting News
Thanks Liv. The whole weekend will just be crazy... On Friday I get the keys, then I'm off to Echuca with my Sister, her Husband and their kids. On Saturday my parents are going to start cleaning my unit, on my return that afternoon I'll help them. Then on Sunday we'll be moving most things (I have the work van for the day). Then Monday and Tuesday I'll be organising and waiting for Telstra and Hopefully Harvey Norman... FUN!!! Then after all that, I may just watch TV in the nude... BECAUSE I CAN!!!!!

Exciting News
4 sleeps peoples, 4 sleeps!!! until I get the keys to my unit :parrot: (Friday morning) I have mixed emotions. I'm very excited and can't wait to move in, but I'm also quietly ******** myself! I just want everything to go okay. The phone is sorted out and will be connected (if all goes well) on Tuesday... then after this, I can organise to get the internet connected. This will take time :budgiedance: ...hopefully not too long. I'll be back and forth to my parents house to use the internet and check on my aviary birds. So as you can imagine this week is a very big one in my life...

Hen Plucking Babies
Oh Deb. I don't think the hen plucking has anything to do with what you have or havn't done. I think it's an inbuilt thing. Some hens do it , some don't. I read somewhere where you can substitute the breeding box door with a clear plastic one. This lets more light in and she 'might' stop. You just have to make sure she goes back in and is okay with the extra light. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone.

Hen Plucking Babies
Oh no Deb. Sorry to hear about this. I have not experienced this so can't advise. I hope someone can give you some answers and things will sort themselves out. Good luck!

Help!
Kaz, thank you so much....yes, I really did a stupid thing. It's not the first, either. Poor things. So you would say yes, go ahead with the antibiotic??? An what is the Triple C you referred to?? Maisie: Thanks for sharing your story about switching the foood, it is helping me see what a tremendous impact that can have on these little babes. It does have a massive impact, but don't beat yourself up over it too much. As Kaz said, everyone makes mistakes. It is good though that you are watching them and are quick to act.

Help!
I'm not disagreeing with Liv either... lol... It's hard to say. I'm not expert though, just my opinion. If after some time and plenty of good food (original seed, fresh veggies etc...) he improves, perhaps if was the diet change, if things aren't getting better, I'd be thinking some underlying issue. Again though, it's up to you. If you're still worried, take him to the vet. Atleast this would give you peace of mind.

Thanks Lib... they are doing very well!

Help!
You are doing everything you can at the moment. I'm not sure what is going on, but you are right, the fluffed up and shivering is not normal. Check his bottom and breast bone. Are they dirty and sharp? Maybe he has been sick for a little while and the stress of new seed has brought it out?

Chryso Away!
Have fun in 'Colac'. I'm not sure if you have been there before, but you'll know what I mean when you return... lol. I hope it all goes well at the mixed practice and I can't wait for your stories!

Help!
First things first, I'm sorry to hear about this. Hospital cage and quarintine is excellent. Also add a desk lamp with a 40w globe for warmth. You can also cover him so it's dark and quiet. When changing food you you always do it slowly... a little of each and slowly change proportions. Sometimes a food change can explain the poo, but this sounds a little more than that. I'm not sure about giving him the antibiotic... wait for another more experiences member to reply. But at this stage I'd be taking him to the Avian Vet on monday if things don't improve. Good luck and please keep us updated.

Diet For Avairy Birds.
Yes, they love Gum tree leaves and branches. Just make sure they are free from chemicals and bird poo before putting them in. You can get most vitamin supliments from a good pet store. Make sure you know what you are after as they'll probably try and sell you heaps of things you DON'T need

Limestone
I don't know about limestone... but you could always put a sheet of zinc/colourbond (or what ever stuff aviaries are made out of) between the limestone bricks and the aviary wire so they can't get to it.

Breeding Supervision
It would be like Birdy Big Brother... There are less issues with Cabinet breeding and less checking is needed. I check twice a day if all is well, more if there seems to be issues (unwell chick etc...)

New Pics Of The Gang

The Clutch Of Winter '08
Awww, thanks guys. It's really tricky to take good, clear photos when they are wriggling around, want to get back to Mum for warmth and food, and Mum is giving me the evil eye... "what are you doing to my babies". She is an excellent Mother though. She doesn't mind me checking them all out. It's all very exciting. As I don't breed much, I enjoy it so much when I do. I love the third photo where you can see it's little tail... lol. Hey Deb, I can imagine our will be going through similar stages at the same time. I think yours hatched earlier than mine, but similar anyway.

The Clutch Of Winter '08
For those of you who have been following my other thread Love is in the Air, I thought I'd start a new topic with their babies... so here it is. Just a quick re-cap: 7 out of 9 eggs were fertile, two didn't manage to get out of their shells alive and 5 have hatched and are growing up nicely. Now for the photos I know you all want... Chick One, hatched on June 12th making him/her 9 days old. Chick Two, hatched on June 14 making him/her 7 days old. Chick Three (who seems to be camera shy ), hatched on June 16 making him/her 5 days old. Chick Four, hatched on June 17 making him/her 4 days old. Chick Five, hatched June 18 making him/her 3 days old. So there you have it, five heathly looking babies. Crackle is doing a great job. I saw her feeding them the other day, and she cleans around their beaks and gets off all the messy food as she goes... very cute! Tweet Tweet is also doing a good support role. He is a boy who never used to eat his greens, but now meets me at the door to tuck into the egg and veggies.
