Love Is In The Air
Well... I did my morning check before work this morning to find two eggs with holes in them... all from the outside. The first had one hole and was pretty dried up inside, the second had quite a bit of blood on it and had several holes. I picked it up, and the chick inside was cheaping!!! Needless to say I was very excited. So, I went off to work hoping the day would pass quickly... It didn't. On my return I rushed out to the aviary camera in hand. When I opened the nest box, both chicks were still in their shells... no cheaping at all. They had both died. I had hopes for the little noisey one, not sure what happened. I presumed that if it was calling for its mother it was ready to come out. Perhaps she was a little rough at assisting him/her. I'm telling myself that it didn't survive for a reason, but it's still hard. I burred the two little ones under the creeper, where many of the other budgies who have passed are. I also put some flowers and said a little prayer. So, 7 remaining eggs, many still with veins and two where I could see the little black eye. Fingers crossed Crackle and Tweet Tweet will at least get a few babies. I'd feel sorry for them if they didin't. mmm

Pet Shop Rescues!
Good on you Libby, you're a saint. Those poor birds... how could anyone let them get to that stage... makes me sick . I hope they get through it and get to live a long and happy life in your aviary!

Milk And Budgies
Me personally, I don't see the need or point in giving them milk. They don't get it in the wild and don't need it... ?!?!

Captain Morgan And Finger Taming
I'm glad things are still going well. Try doing your taming with him in another room, away from his cage. That way the familar thing in the room will be YOU :budgiedance: As to having them in the same room, I don't think it would be a problem, but I'm no expert. If you continue to do individual training I think all should be okay... Good luck and keep it up!

My Budgie Came From Boarding Very Sick
Sorry to hear things aren't improving. I would get a new avain vet. You said at the start he was at the vets for boarding. If this is the same place you are now taking him for treatment, I'd find somewhere new. I too am not a vet, but the first thing I would do would be to take a swab around the eye... mmm... Good luck and keep us updated.

Euthanasia
A juicy one Libby I am not against Euthanasia, but it has its place. Over the years we have had a few pets put down. More recently my Central Netted Dragon had to be euthenased. He was about three years old (nearing the end of his life span). He had been going down hill and not eating. He was unable to move and was having spasms. He was being seen by a vet and it was decided that he had no quality of life and that was best for him. I also had to recently end the life of my first hen, who had two beautiful clutches. She had gone down hill, was not eating or moving around like she used to. My avian vet ran some tests and she had ovarian cancer. An operation could have been done, but the chance of survival was very minimal and she was already struggling. Again, a hard decision but I believe best for her. When I buy animals to raise and look after, I do it with the intention of keeping them until the end. Providing them with all the love and care they need, and the medical attention needed. Not just having them until I get bored and then moving them on. If they seem unwell, they deserve treatment or a check up, just as we do. I don't like to see my animals in pain, or not being able to enjoy life as they used to. All that being said, I would not jump to life ending procedures if I knew I could do more. I'd hate to end their life if they were managing along on their own, as long as i was confident they weren't suffering... but I guess you can't always be 100% sure about that.

Anyone Know If You Can Take Birds On The Train?
Not sure. Perhaps give them a call.
