  4. maesie replied to Elly's topic in Competitions
YES!!! Especially the hairy ones!!! No Do you love sleeping in?
  5. Grrrrrr, how annoying!!! You and I and everyone else here KNEW there would be nothing under the floor, heck, so did they probably... but no, they make you do all that! Biggest warmest hugs Kaz to you and Ken. How disapointing that it has now been de-valued for no reason. On a side note... it does/did look beautiful, especially next to you 'black beauty'.
  6. Hi and welcome. It was great of your Mum to register you here and I'm sure we can help you all to look after and train your new boy/girl. As Liv said, he sounds very young. When checking to see if he is eating, blow the husks off the top of the seed. There should be lots. If not he is just 'playing' with his food and should be returned to the aviary to learn how to eat properly. I can only imagine the excitment you must be feeling, and I can't wait to see a photo of him and get to know you both. maesie
  7. Thanks all... I think they are beautiful too, but they are mine lol... Bottom picture at back a boy Neat?
  8. Nice birds... but Fatso is the fattest budgie I've ever seen! Poor fello . I hope his diet and exercise regime helps him out.
  9. deary me!!! Good luck with that!
  10. I hope things work out... Biggest hugs!!!
  11. Thanks Jenene... I didn't have to do much. Mum and Dad were great parents... Well here they are: With Mum and Dad watching from behind!
  12. Thanks! They are like little mini budgies now... lol I'll try and get some photos now. I'm taking more next week also to clarify and get more help on their sexes.
  13. Awsome news Jenene!!! Congratulations on your new arrival!!!!
  14. As you're aware, my 'lovely bunch of opalines' are going great guns. The youngest will be 5 weeks tomorrow. Some of them have a light grey tinge on thier tummy's, and they are all growing nicely. They all forage for seed and some veggies, but most still call for a top up from Mum and Dad (but don't always get it). I'm not sure if you remember, but I bought a cage of ebay a little while ago. They're all in it at the moment and while the size is awsome, but I'm not 100% happy with it... so I bought another one which should arrive next week. The new one is similar to the one many seem to have... 30" x 18" x 18". They'll be having lots of out of cage time, so I think it will be perfect... but... back on topic. I have had two clutches previously but they were both colony breed and there for the chicks fledged and grew up, no problems, but this is my first cabinet clutch. Now I've read and re-read sooooo much and have kind of decided what I plan to do. I'd just love some opinions as to if it's okay... When my new cage comes next week, I'll move the bubs (youngest will be 6 weeks old) into it and leave Mum and Dad in the old cage. I plan to give them a rest (away from bubs) for 2 weeks, then they can be returned home to the aviary. Also, after this two weeks, I plan to send the bubs I'm not keeping off to their new homes and one to the aviary. This will make the youngest 8 weeks old. In this time I'll be watching carefully that they are eating etc... and gaining weight. If they aren't ready at 8 weeks, I'm happy to keep them for longer. So, does this sounds okay? any advice would be awsome. I've never done it this way before and just want to do what is best for all. Thanks
  15. What a pity... but you'll get there. I simply can't wait until your finished (not as much as you I'm guessing! lol)
  16. Very nice buys Sunnie. It looks like you had a successful day
  17. Tame ringnecks... nice I guess you could always keep one of the bubs in another cage and let them become friends and play together (under supervision of course )
  18. No one is assuming anything. We are all here to help others and do not think that everyone on here knows nothing. Many members here are very experienced in breeding and always have the health and well being of YOUR birds at heart. The flip side is that there are also many inexperienced breeders here who do come here looking for advice (and don't always ask the right questions). Now, if we were to assume everyone here knows what they are doing, then aren't we letting down those people and their birds?!?! BUT... Back on topic... your birds look very healthy and I hope the babies are doing well. Are you keeping the babies? I have chicks myself (5, the youngest who is a month old).

The parents are very nice birds and I'm sure the chicks will be too. As Liv said... don't be afraid to pick up and hold the bubs. Just clean your hands and use warm water so they'll be nice and warm for the bubs. They are eaiser to handle now as they wriggle lots as they get older. If you've been reading the FAQ's, I'm assuming you and your friend know to give the parents plenty of fresh veggies, hard boiled egg (mashed up shell and all) and plenty of seed. They now have three extra mouths to feed and you'd be surprised at how much extra they'll eat. Good luck with them and please keep us updated. Maesie
  20. You make me laugh!!! Nice looking bird and I really hope they become great friends
  21. I will do, in a week-ish. I forgot to mention that I cleaned the back room today and let the kids out for a fly. I set up a rope perch and covered the floor below it. I opened the cage door, and nothing... lol. I ended up getting them out. Mum also decided to join them for a small fly. The kids had a little fly, we had a few crash landings into the walls, but mostly it was quite successful. They flew around a little but were mainly just sitting on top of the cage chewing the rope perch (they've never seen it before). They were out for about 10 minutes, which was enough for their first time. Tonight, they're all happily nibbling at seed and crumbs on the floor of the cage, and settling in for the night.
  22. I'm so excited for you!! Although you must be very thrilled, try not to check them/bother them too much. Twice a day is enough. It is very hard, I know I look forward to regular egg and then baby updates!
  23. Good Camera and just the right amout of pressure to keep their little heads still!!! Thanks...
