Possible Egg Binding
Thanks Libby, Her vent looks fine and i dont see a egg bum either. Thanks Kaz. She is in now. Sitting quietly but still perky. I will go out and split up some over excited couples before they get into trouble - I thought it was okay because there are no nesting sites and none of them are showing signs of nesting in corners etc. I have AVI-CAL which is a liquid calcium. Calcium Borogluconate 200g/L I have put some in her water, but am i able to give it via beak too like you do with the calcivet???

Selective Breeding?
Your hen is a Yellow Face (YF) type 2 (which means the yellow bleeds into the body colour) Your male is a normal sky blue. They both look really nice and healthy but we will not be able to tell the gender of any of their chicks yet, because neither parent is showing sex linked genetics. When the chicks are about 3 weeks old, post a clear picture of their little faces and we should be able to tell what you have p.s. are your birds breeding in the basket??

Possible Egg Binding

Possible Egg Binding
I have this pair who have bonded in my aviary which contains NO nest boxes/sites. A dominant pied hen and a YF2 male - both are my bred babies and are from November 07 As you can see the hen is looking under the weather. These two have been bonking like CRAZY for the last 3 weeks.... now i am worried she is going to lay, or even worse get bound She is otherwise fine, but is looking fluffed and has a tail bob (over 1cm) - I caught her today before i took the above photos and she has a clean vent, is a great weight, nice and strong and left a number of painful holes in my hands (**OUCH**) Should i assume she is egg bound and give her heat, calcium and rest ????

Wattle & Grevillea
Yes, you are right about the over seas varieties MB, but unless you 100% know what variety of wattle you have, I feel its best to er on the side of caution.

Wattle & Grevillea
I would have thought it would be okay...... BUT From Wikipedia.

Medicated Water
What is it with budgies ALWAYS bathing in their medicated water They don't really do it when they have normal water, but as soon as i worm them or give them their vitamins they dive in a bathe in it

My Budgie Is Losing His Colour!
Most budgie varieties get darker in colour with a moult. Can you see any fluffy down feathers showing though.... he isn't starting to pluck his feathers out is he???? A picture will help a lot.

Spanky & Saucy Face
That has happened to me in the past too I agree, be very careful with her. Perhaps keep them in a separate cage. She might be happier on her own anyway and without the stress of having to defend her "territory" .

Tweety Biting
If a budgie (or tiel) is sitting on me and gives me an unacceptable nip, I put them straight down on the floor. They hate being on the floor and they get the hint pretty quickly. I find putting them back in their cage is a reward as most birds like their cage.

New Picture Of Morgan
Please make sure they have a calcium supplement in their water at all times - this will reduce the chances of egg binding. I agree Morgan is too young. Lizzy is a bit on the old side too but the pet types tend to be hardier than the show types and i have known a number of pet type hens to breed happily into their 7's. Is this her first clutch??? As neat mentioned, the eggs will most likely be clear because of Morgan's young age.

Gorgeous New Budgie...what Is He?
He is lovely! I agree, remember to keep him quarantined in a separate room of your house for 30 days and wash hands after holding him and tending to him etc. To me, i see some dark marks in the feathers above his cere, it might be just a shadow, but if not it could indicate illness... does his tail move when he breathes??? Dose he have a ring on his leg?? if he does you will be able to findout how old he is.

Winter Breeding In An Outdoor Avairy - Can It Work?
Last year I colony bred my birds in August and i had 6 lil pink chicks die from exposure on one frosty (4 degree) night My advice is, don't do it until the nights warm up more. Your birds at the moment would be mating just for the fun of it too

Tail Bobbing
Also what is the level of tail bobing?? I have been doing some research and all sites i have read say that if the tail moves less that 1cm (in total) , then it's normal. but anything over 1cm is a sign of illness.

okay So I'm A Complete Sucker -
What about a rat wheel with a millet spray just out of reach to make him run hehehe
-
okay So I'm A Complete Sucker -
Is he strong when you hold him??? Just be careful, he might be sick. Birds can still fly when caring more weight. Also, are his wings okay?? Has he had any injuries or poorly healed breaks??
-
okay So I'm A Complete Sucker -
Put him in large flight cage with only 2 perches spaced as far apart as possible so he has to exercise. He still needs sufficient food to maintain body heat though the cold weather, so just remove oats and sunflower from the regular budgie mix. Also, lots of greens (peas, brocoli etc) and carrot.

Just Checking
Well spotted - They are lovely markings

Selective Breeding?
We will be able to tell the sex of the chicks if you can post clear pictures of their cere (without using flash) Some of us can tell the gender from as young as 2-3 weeks old Look forward to the pictures

To Mad To Post About This Last Night
You go girl!!! I hope the little guy makes it, or even better, i hope they give him to you as they don't sound like "pet people" and they don't the the right to treat a living creature that way I agree with Neat though, be careful - they could get very upset with you.

Just Checking
That looks Brilliant! Well done.

What My Guys Do All Day
I've contacted the customs and they told me to contact the State Phytosanitary Administration, but didn't answer my email . But I've read some info on their website and it's probably not so easy, the plant might need some certificate that it doesn't carry any disease that could attack other plants in the country . So I think it's not worth the trouble, it would be too difficult . But thanks for the offer anyway What a bummer. I was looking forward to sending your birds treats in the post. I hope you are able to find some local to you
