Just an update on these guys. The blue pair are very healthy and now back in the aviary, I am hoping to use them again next season. Their four babies were fostered to 3 nests, I gave Nirvana and Suki two of them. Here are a couple of quick snaps I took of all five babies together. Nirvana and Suki's babies all have yellow faces and I think two are like mum and the youngest may be a grey like dad.
  2. Gorgeous birds splat :happy-dancing:
  3. Your bird is very lovely. Good luck with your new friend and welcome to the forum
  4. Good luck with your naughty little boy!!
  5. I think I would have had the same reaction as you if I took one of my babies to the vet and thought something they had done on a routine check up was going to cause their death!! :party0011: So glad he is okay and I hope he is all back to his normal self today
  6. I look forward to seeing your new babies too!! I will be green with envy when you get your TCB......one of my favourite mutations :party0011:
  7. We have five babies :party0011:
  8. Well, about one pair out of 14 actually ate any of the baby corn......most of them were even still on their little veggie plates, totally untouched, so I wont be bothering with that again! lol

Well it wasnt mud as such, that was my polite way of saying really runny, sticky, poo
  10. I specifically went to buy fresh corn for the birds today and it was right next to it.......
  11. I bought some packs of fresh baby corn from the supermarket today as they were on special and I thought the breeding birds would love them. I thought I would post first though, before feeding and get opinions as to whether it is the same as big corn and okay to feed to them. I would imagine it would be, but you eat the whole corn with baby corn, not just the kernels. Any thoughts please?
  12. Here are some pictures of my clearwings. I was so in love with Harrison when I bought him about 6 months or so ago, and then I found his girlfriend Sparkles. I havent seen too many blue clearwings, mostly just greens, so you can imagine my surprise and delight when their oldest baby started to colour up to be blue Harrison Sparkles The babies - Three clearwings and a fostered blue baby from Dharma and Tibet PS I have resized my pictures but the preview is still showing the unedited large pics - I hope they post at the correct size
  13. Very pretty colours :sadsorry:
  14. No, they are definitely marked. It is hard to see in the pictures, they wont sit still on my finger any more for me to get close enough pictures, but I think all of them have cinnamon throat spots. I plan on doing more pictures after they moult to hopefully get clearer pics of their markings. The oldest baby is in the nursery aviary with the white baby, and you can definitely see the markings on them. So, you werent just seeing things!
  15. These arent great pics - they would be much better without the bars, but I thought I would share anyway. Three babies on bucket - sitting on the edge of their inverted "hut". The little greyish coloured baby with the yellow face is the fostered baby from the rainbow pair. Veggie pigout In the holding cage now. Dad feeding the foster child while mum looks on. The cute picture I missed was just moments earlier, the baby was in the corner of the cage and mum was preening it and he was loving it. They seem to pay the only baby that isnt their own more attention, like they "know" it had a misfortune lol
  16. That sucks MB. Sorry to hear your bad news. Fingers crossed mum does okay with the chicks.

I thought I would update this post, as I had a bit of a panic Sunday night and knee jerk reacted. Luckily for me, all has turned out well, but I made a mistake without even thinking, so I thought I would share my mistake. I got home Sunday night and went to check the birds before turning out their light. I looked in the "blue" box and the babies were literally paddling in "mud". It was very wet and smelly and I actually had to bathe each of the babies and dry them as they were covered in poo. I cleaned the box, put new shavings in and treated mum with sulphadim. The next day, all was well, but I was really concerned with losing my blue hen and there seems to have been so many breeding disasters this season, my only thought was making sure she didnt get even more sick. She looked a bit haggard and lean to me, and I didnt want her to lose further condition. I had other hens who were able to foster the four blue babies, so I placed them. On discussion about this with someone very knowledgeable, it was pointed out to me, what if it wasnt just an upset tummy (which is what I suspect, cause mum is doing fine and fit and healthy), but a transmittable disease and I would have spread that disease to 3 different hens, and their babies as well. I am very lucky, that all the babies are very well and being well looked after by their foster parents, there is no further sign of sickness anywhere and Dharma and Tibet are also looking well and chirpy. They are still in a holding cage and being treated with sulphadim to be sure. So luck is on my side this time, but once again, in this big learning curve of breeding, I have learned a valuable lesson, fortunately, not the hard way

Sorry for your loss It is a constant learning process, and any mistakes we make along the way just reinforce the learning and we dont make the same mistakes again. I'm not saying you made any mistakes, just this is something I personally have learned from breeding. Good luck with your future breeding
  19. Sounds like a great thread! I have no idea about the grasses, so I really appreciate when pictures are posted rather than names of grasses I have no idea about
  20. Sorry to hear about your crappy weekend Lib *hugs* As Kaz said, you have been through a lot lately, I am so glad you have a ray of sunshine to make you smile again. Lilly is gorgeous!!!
  21. I have no idea - looks to me like big nostrils on the cere like a hen, but purplish colouring like a cock *shrug*
