Claustrophobic Hen
That is actually a pretty good idea! I just need to get myself a marker tomorrow to mark her eggs. Which brings up another question. What type of marker is used to mark eggs?

Claustrophobic Hen
LOL how ironic. I have cabinets with plastic nest boxes and they have perspex slides that could be used like this, but she just happens to be in one of my very few cabinets with a wooden nest box. Thanks for the suggestion. I guess I could risk trying to change them over with another pair that I just put down and havent bonded yet........

Claustrophobic Hen
A few weeks ago, I bought a lovely normal cinnamon sky hen and was also given a beautiful big spangle blue cock. I paired them together in a breeding cabinet as they came from the same place and I thought I might as well see if they did anything while in quarantine. I actually didnt think either bird was interested at all, but over the past week or so, they have been showing definite signs of bonding. The other day, I found an egg on the floor of the cabinet. I thought she might have just surprised herself and seeing as she wasnt nesting, I decided to foster it and see what becomes of it. Both birds have been "laying down" alot and then I realised, they are nesting on the bottom of the cabinet, and I found another egg under her today. Yesterday, before the egg, I put her in the nest box to see if she might take to it. Then I worried she might not come out, so I gently shooed her out to show her she could come and go. I then put her back in the box and a few minutes later, she came out again and she has gone back to nesting on the floor. I would like any suggestions to help with this situation. I put an upside down cut out icecream container with some shavings and today's egg in there, but she isnt interested in using that either. I really didnt think these guys would go down and I really would like their chicks if they have fertile eggs. Help please

Line Breeding
Most show breeders I have talked to generally say choose one or two breeders to buy your stock from and go from there. I have bought lots of birds from lots of places, but I think I would line breed my birds that are showing good qualities. Too much of a newby to have gone there yet

Updated Pics Of Nirvana And Suki's Babies
These are mostly pics of "Thumper" my biggest baby yet. He was quite a surprise! The two blue babies are the fostered babies from the post about the blues and Nirvana and Suki. The blue baby we have named Chopper, because what Chopper lacks in size, she (?) makes up for in bite! Everytime you approach the baby cage, Thumper and Chopper run up to the front for attention, but Chopper loves to bite! It's kinda cute, being such a baby with so much courage and fiestyness, but she bites hard!! Lucky she's not going to a home to be a pet lol Thumper (sorry some of the pics are a bit blurred, but they give you an idea of his size) Chopper, with unnamed yf grey spangle, sibling of Thumper and Chopper's sibling in the top corner behind the toy Chopper in front with the others in the last picture, yf sky baby behind water container and Thumper is barely visible right in the very top left hand corner

Boof And Sophie
Well here are the updated pictures of Boof and Sophie's babies. One of them seems to have possibly suffered feather damage, but is pretty and healthy nonetheless Some of the colours are a little washed out from taking pics in front of the window. I didnt use a flash to try and catch the natural colours, but obviously the outdoor light was a bit bright too. Group shot Baby1 Baby2 Baby3 Baby4 Baby5

Show Or Pet?
Great name, very cute She's a very nice budgie, I have had this where I have bred a show type and pet and one of the babies has been quite a bit larger than it's siblings, but definitely not show standard

Making A Birdie Swing
We (Adam) made a big budgie swing for the aviary and show types and pet types both love to chew on it, play on it and swing on it. I will endeavour to get pics in the near future, as like yours, it is a very simple and cheap idea but on a bigger scale

Breeding in Ken's Aviary
OMG it looks like a little vulture LOL Baby birds are so ugly, but still cute and loveable all the same Good luck with your Barras - I think there have been too many disruptions this year with our aviaries to get babies, but the princess hen is still sitting on one egg, so fingers crossed for that one

Bonding 2 Male Budgies To Us
I have a friend who has 3 of my pet budgies (bought as babies at different times, but all within this year). One male and 2 females. I think you will have a hard time getting them to talk to you in "human speak" if you have more than one bird, as they are happy to chatter away to each other, but if you have one very tame and comfortable pet and you bring a second one along, initially keeping it in a separate cage for training, they will still bond to their human owners and happily interact with you. My friend has great delight with all three of her babies, all having their own unique characters
