  1. He's a really lovely boy I am glad it was "just" stress, and that he is doing well now. Fingers crossed for breeding
  2. I have only been with my current club for about 18 months or so I think, maybe 2 years. I would like to say that I have received wonderful support, been given good birds, been sold cheap birds and felt very honoured to have been treated this way as a novice. When a junior joined 8 months or so ago, even though my birds were not of the best standard, I was happy to give her a couple of the varieties she liked and sell her a few show types at reasonable prices. Ive had wonderful advice and encouragement (and the odd bit of criticism and discouragement too) but more positive than negative. One of our up and coming best breeders responded to a phone call from me, worrying about a chick I had separated from parents a few days too early, and drove 40 minutes throught the city to crop my baby and teach me how to do it myself on a Friday evening. I will never forget kindnesses I have been shown as a novice and aim to pass those kindnesses on as my experience (and flock) grows
  3. I've bred only 3 split fallows this season so far and all of them are grey opalines......good luck with your breeding Squeak, we will have lots to talk about!

Sorry to hear about the hen Kaz, that is such a shame. Your baby boy is certainly something to be treasured though, he's GORGEOUS!
  5. Your babies look absolutely amazing splat! I would be having a party if I bred babies like that I havent been on the forum for a while and just as I thought I had a couple of good ones coming through I saw yours and realise I still have many miiiiiiiiiiiiiiles to go!! Keep up the good work
  6. Gorgeous baby Kaz
  7. It's a baby scarlet chested grass parrot lilbaby..........I hope it doesnt turn into a budgie!! LOL
  8. I wasnt sure where to post these pictures but as I guess they are mainly of the scarlet baby, thought I would put them in Off Topic :happy-dancing: This is Nirvana and Suki's 2nd round and they have 5 babies of their own, plus their adopted ugly duckling. I had to clean their box out this morning, so I thought I would just take a couple of quick snaps, mainly of the scarlet baby. Nirvana Nirvana and Suki Their five babies plus one in the middle - not a good picture of their babies, but I was in a hurry to get them back in the box after removing them all to clean it, cause mum was anxious. And............the ugly duckling lol
  9. Awww theyre so lovely. Its nice that Albert has allowed Mungo to be his friend. I too have a quaker and a conure. My quaker came first, my conure was an outdoor bird. There were introduced slowly and I worried about them fighting, but within two weeks they loved each other so much, they started sharing the same "apartment". My guys dont play with budgies though, I dont have pet indoor budgies unless I am taming one for someone else, and budgies tend to lose toes if they land on Saffy and Morris's cage - so budgies live in my room when being tamed lol Thanks for sharing. Are Nandos loud birds? I have heard they are almost as bad as Suns?
  10. To be sure, I would guess about 4 weeks, he is 2 months old now.
  11. Hi Hills I do have a baby from this clutch, who happens to be the prettiest and I "think" he is a boy. The only thing is, I had been hand taming his older sibling for someone else, and have now moved onto working with another baby that has been requested, so this baby hasnt had any recent handling at all and is probably as flighty as you would get from any petshop. I actually had planned on starting to work with him after my current one, cause even though I had no one lined up to buy him, I think anyone who sees his pretty colours will fall in love. He is available untamed and ready to go now, or it might be a little while before he is ready to go with a family who wants a hand tamed baby :hap:
  12. Great post! They look like they are having a ball exploring their "surprises" :hi:
  13. Thanks JB and SW. Baby 3 died but baby 4 is doing well so far with Suki. I dont know where I got the name from SW, I was looking up Zen/Hindu/Japanese type "at peace" names and found that name somewhere. Her partner's name is Nirvana, so I wanted a peaceful, pretty name for such a pretty girl
  14. Well bad news on the scarlets  We had a lot of heavy rain on Friday and being that the hen was nesting right in the front corner of the aviary, water seeped under and the babies became wet, but I did realise until Saturday afternoon. Two were gone when I discovered and the third wasnt far behind  Number four is currently being fostered by a budgie mum, so far so good. I feel like whenever I get excited about something, I jinx it and it falls down. So I am hopeful Suki will continue to feed the baby for at least another week and then I am off to get some hand rearing lessons from a friend.
  15. He is adorable!! I am so glad you decided to take him on, conures are great little parrots

Congrats on all your beautiful new birds! You did very well Liv :reading: I'm looking forward to my trip to Perth next year too :reading:
  17. I used to colony breed and was lucky enough to have had success with it. But I didnt just shake my head if the birds "fought a little" and think what great little troopers, I was concerned with injury and would remove them from the situation. This was before I learned what I know now - I would just think it would be common sense and a protective measure for the animals you have taken responsibility to care for. I agree with you Dean
  18. I so love how you told your story. It is with so much love and caring. I am really glad your girl passed her egg with your wonderful help, it doesnt turn out so well for a lot of egg bound hens. Well done and thank you for sharing
  19. That really sucks It seems she really doesnt know much about what she is doing to me and the poor birds are suffering for her ignorance. "They fight a bit, but dont usually do too much harm. Such wonderful birds!!" Anyone who cares and DOES colony breed, doesnt leave them to their own devices to sort themselves out, they remove trouble makers to lessen the risk
  20. It warms my heart and brings a smile to hear that you have decided to stay with us. I look forward to your future posts and more piccies of your gorgeous birds
  21. What a super star hen!!! Gorgeous babies
