  1. Gorgeous pics, they will be great 21st birthday memories picture for your son down the track. They look so cute together. Kasey looks irresistable
  2. I would do it if it were me. I have a Sun Conure and he has had some training issues and trust issues as he wasnt totally hand reared when I bought him. I admit he is aggressive with others, but with me he is totally loveable and suns are the loudest of all conures. Green cheeks arent so noisey and they are such SMART little parrots! I also have a quaker and she has gotten a little "nippy" but I know exactly what she doesnt like, when she is territorial and I can work around her nippiness. EG she doesnt like my hands in their cage for changing water and food etc and I battled with nasty nips for ages until I realised, if I just let her come out of the cage for 5 mins while I do the necessities, I avoid the nips and everyone is happy. Its a matter of getting to know your bird I believe Some days my conure will be totally cuddly, right up under my chin and loving me stroking down his back, other days, he feels less trusting and he lets me know with a protest squawk thats not what he's in the mood for. His protests are vocal, not physical and I heed them so they dont get physical. I am a conure fan, I think they are a great, quirky, hardy little parrot, with the Green Cheeks being one of the quieter breeds
  3. I have heard that red rumps cant be colony bred, they need separate aviaries/cages for each pair. I am happy to be corrected on this, but this is the main reason I havent gotten into rumps myself.
  4. We have four babies now
  5. Oh how awful for him I can imagine how devestated he is, my son would be the same. *hugs* to you both
  6. Love that picture of your pooches Kaz
  7. I thought DF dom pied too, but Lib knows more than me on mutations
  8. I cant answer the question but I have to comment on how stunning your birds are. I'm envious!
  9. Sunnie replied to brez's topic in In Memorium
Such a shame Freak deaths do happen though. She was such a pretty girl
  10. Great to hear things are going so well
  11. Yeah, I think they are on top of the last egg, it was hard to take pics quickly, I put the camera on macro and looked at it from a distance and just took two quick snaps and as you can see in the picture, its not easy to make tail or head of those little fluffies lol I agree with Kaz and Lib that the grey egg is probably DIS.
  12. Updated pics today We now have three babies I took a picture of the outside of the aviary to give an idea of where she is nesting, literally right in the corner where the door is. I had to be careful filling up seed and changing water, dad was VERY flighty and so was mum a bit. They are such timid natured birds, I think their bravery comes out when it comes to protecting their babies though! Mum's tail, in usual position poking out under the aviary door. Three babies - I think number three was hatched today
  13. Evan? lol You might want to replace your plastic perches with natural branches if you can get hold of suitable ones. Much better for their little feet
  14. Hi iRomance Welcome to the forum. Your baby looks gorgeous and looks healthy to me. I think she might be a he but I am sure others will correct me if I'm wrong. Do you have a name for her yet??
  15. Getting a new puppy is soooooooooo exciting!! I would have a new puppy every week if I could LOL I cant wait for pics
  16. I am a "buy it" girl too. Lucky for me, my partner is a "make it" man lol
  17. I havent checked since taking the pics, cause I like to leave her alone, being so exposed on the floor of the aviary, but every day I go out and I can see her tail poking out under the aviary, so I know she is still sitting. I plan to have another look tonight though, as they will need more seed today or tomorrow, so I will do it today Out of curiousity, do you think the grey egg is rotten or fertile? I guess it could possibly be near to hatching *shrug*
  18. Hi and welcome to the forum Dean. Your birds are gorgeous I was criticized for putting 2 yellow faces together Kaz, as I was told they would throw DFs which would mean only white faces anyway. Well, you will get some yf's and some df's maybe, but all three from that particular nest of mine were yf's
  19. 48. When you're known as the "budgie lady" at work 49. When you take different budgies to work all the time to hand tame them for pets 50. When you discover bird poop on your shoulder or a feather in your hair, and you just dont care anymore, cause thats just life!
  20. Me too. It's the first thing we've bred that isnt a budgie LOL
  21. I am not sure what they are called when they cross breed, and yes, the cross breeds can also breed as far as I am aware. It was something we didnt want to encourage though. I did see Boss with the hen a few weeks ago and he is the one who has been flying down to feed her, so I can only assume and hope that he is the father of the babies.
  22. Thanks Jimmy Scarlet chested parrots is what they are. They cross breed with Turqs which we have in there also (only a turq cock, as we lost the hen some time ago), but that was another reason we didnt put nest boxes in to encourage them to breed. But I guess where there's a will there's a way with some broody hens lol
  23. Were they Kososke birds? (Not sure how you spell his name) I know he culls birds there, but I know a number of breeders that do, but none that I know of recently. I have been culling my pet birds there for a couple of months.
  24. To my novice eye, they both look lovely. Doesnt the DF have too much suffusion for show? I am asking this as I have a white DF who has a lot of blue suffusion and he cant be shown because of it.
  25. A couple of weeks ago, we found a nest of 5 eggs in the corner on the floor of our small parrot aviary. We initially had a lot of problems with sickness etc with our scarlets and turqs and decided we would just keep what we had left as pretty birds next to our bbq area and not buy more and not breed. Well anyway, one little hen has had other ideas. We found the eggs, as I said, a couple of weeks ago, right near the door, so I have had to be careful to let the hen know when I am changing food or water, so she leaves her nest and doesnt fly out the door. We had asked people what we should do about the nest of eggs and have been told to do nothing, so we have just left them alone. I spent my weekend at Adam's this weekend and when I came home, started checking all the birds and this is what I found! I am really excited and hope that more of the eggs hatch This is mum on the eggs, not a great picture as I had to take it on the other side of the aviary through the wire. This is Boss, he's dad And their first baby!
