  1. It seems to me, your baby has become territorial about his/her cage. What is happening is that you are making progress away from the cage, in a separate cage or room, then when he/she goes back to "home" it becomes territorial, which is natural and not a bad thing. I have a parrot that cuddles right up to me and will let me do anything with her, as long as she is out of her cage. Inside her cage changing food and water is a battle, so I let her out to do these things. Let your budgie have his territory and remove him completely away from his cage for training. As Finnie said, it sounds like you are making progress, in that the bird is affectionate and attentive when not in its cage.

  4. I have bred two feather dusters from the same nest a couple of years ago. I hate it, it makes me sad. Knowing that they will die regardless. Im sorry bout your duster
  5. Sorry to hear about your losses. I am glad your birds have all been treated and I am sure that everything will be much better for you. Stress usually brings out any disease the birds are carrying, and unfortunately, we cant always predict what might stress a particular bird. Some, like people, are easily stressed over minor things and some can take more stress than you would think imaginable and still pull through with health intact. Good luck with it all

It was a pretty small show, so there are no pictures or at this point, official results on paper, but J&W Weidenhoffer and Mulley & Stafford took out the majority of the open class varieties. And sorry to hear about Bing Libby

Hi Libby I probably had the worst show I've had in a while, but the birds I would like to have entered are already too old and had broken their caps and I have others up and coming that are probably better too. I grabbed a handful of birds the right age to put in the show to support the show and as it was, there wasnt a great turn out. People said it was due to the ring date change and I know some that put birds down too early or too late to have babies in the UBC. I got a few places, but they were more by default. A novice from NEBS had much better birds than I do and did very well. It was a good day all the same Squeak took home a couple of lovely trophies Thank you for asking. (off topic) How is your tiel doing?

I wont be at tomorrow night's meeting, but look forward to meeting you in the future. Clearbodies are one of my favourite varieties also. Nice to see you hear and I look forward to hearing and seeing more of your flock.

It is the interclub Nestfeather Show tomorrow. I am entering a few babies, but most of them have trashed their tails for some reason in the baby cage. Oh well, the judges may be forgiving of imperfections being that its a "baby" show. The show is being hosted by North East Budgerigar Society and competing with Budgerigar Society of South Australia (my club) and is at the Kilburn Community Hall, Le Hunte St, Kilburn.
  16. Spangle opaline, which is what causes the pretty "smudgy" markings and yes, I think boy
  17. I dont think you can blame yourself for any of this. It isnt very common, I dont believe, for cocks to attack hens, in fact, I think its more common the other way around. I had a hen and cock get into a fight when the chicks were about the age your chicks are now and I dont know who was at fault. I let the hen raise the chicks and she was fine with it. I think I put the cock in the baby cage (this was a couple of years ago, I'm trying to remember) and then, when the chicks were old enough I put the hen and chicks in there too. Once again, these two fought and I put him out in the nursery aviary, and a few weeks later, put her out there too. They fought yet AGAIN in the aviary! I found this very odd, so I put him in a totally separate aviary. Some months down the track, they ended up in the same aviary again and there were no more dramas, but I wouldnt risk pairing them again. They have both since that time had other partners and been fine in breeding and raising chicks. I sometimes like to look at how unpredictable people can be, both emotionally and physically and compare budgies the same, so I dont over analyse behaviour. My favourite saying is "The only thing predictable about budgies is, that they are unpredictable". Sorry to hear of your bad news
  18. Congrats on your wins Shannon. You have some VERY nice birds

Wow! I'm glad you found the ticks and that your pooch is okay!

Well, it looks to me like you have some nice size and length and you need more width and blow in the head and more shoulder - that's how I see it anyway. From what I understand (in my 3 years experience lol) size is the hardest thing to get and putting heads on isnt so hard lol. They look lovely
  22. I just read this whole thread and.........I FEEL for you!!! Wow, you really have had a hard time, but kudos to you for keeping on keeping on. It WILL get better. As you get to know your birds and then in turn, get to breed with your own birds, things start to improve. My fiance had a really **** first season with "good" birds he bought last year too. This year started out not much better, but seems to now be improving. A couple of years ago, I bred what I thought was my best chick and he fledged from the nest looking beautiful, only to drop his flights and tail in the kindy cage, then lose everything out in the nursery aviary. He still lives out there, running around on the floor, quite happy with himself but not many people visit my place without commenting on the funny little budgie down the bottom. *sigh* I wish you all the luck with your future breeding and dont give up too soon! (hmm thats a hug lol)
  23. Oh my lordy! That was a quick sex change........I feel much better now though
  24. Loving it already and I'm looking forward to making use of the new features
