  1. A few days ago I lost 2 birds, we thought it might have been due to the heave thunder storm or it might be sour crop so we did everything that we where told to and even moved them to a new aviary. I get home tonight and I have 3 more dead on the bottom of the aviary and Harley my baby, my nine year old who started it all is sitting fluffed up on the bottom of the aviary. That's it no more guesses I take him straight to the vet. So the vet does her thing, she calls me in to show me the slides and it goes like this Vet - you see these round things AV - it's cocccicodes (sp?) Vet - yes good pick up, and these AV - that's mega bac (feels like crying) Vet - yes and I hate to tell you but all these things, well that is a general bacteria as well AV - *cries* She then does a crop flush and finds out that he also has cankers.... I am in shock, they had to get me a seat and the vet nurse was great so was the training vet who was trying to cheer me up telling me stories about her and the hand up a horse back side. We weighed Harley in at 23grams So we decided that those who are hit the hardest and those most important are going on a two does a day of a white cloudy med for 7 days and everyone else gets the clear meds two day then 5 days off then two days.... So far there is no signs of this in my breeding room which is good cause more of the good birds are in there. the vet was a little shocked when I said that I would catch 20 odd birds to medicate them but really what other choice do I have. She said to be prepared for more losses and she really can't believe that Harley is still kicking be 9 years old and have so many things wrong with him. I am really thinking of getting him another cage and moving him inside on a permanent base WHEN he pulls through this. I just can't take waking up to more dead birds tomorrow.....
  2. *hugs* I am so sorry, I had this happen to me but I was Lucky Flame pulled through as I got to her really quick. Big Big *hugs*
  3. He he Wathing NCIS season 4 as i check the boards!
  4. They forgot Colin Walker at Knox vet Clinic Philip and ??? At Highbury Rd Vet Clinic
  5. I had one guy tell me that they had the babies in for about 4 weeks so I said they are what 10 to 12 weeks old? nope he said they got them in when they where a week old.... whatever!
  6. If you read any of the sites on hand raising larger birds most of them say how parents raised birds will fledge say week 5 and a hand raised will fledge week 7 (these are just approx numbers for this example) This to me means that by handraising the chick we are slowing it's development rate. Not saying there is anything wrong with what you are doing but be prepared for this little guy to be behind his nest mates. Well done hope all consitnues to go well
  7. I have a planter box the other side of my hooper on the outside of the avairy. I have noticed that a bunch of seeds that got thrown out of the avairy have started to sprout in that
  8. A vet visit is always a good thing and if you think she needs to go take her. However I have one hen that does this, she gets a poo ball and then when I remove it a large amount of poo comes out at the same time. The vet has told me it's the way she sits on the ground (she like bunkering down in the shavings on the floor of the cage). Basically if you picked a bird up in the heat and they sit in the box they could cause the blockage. You just have to keep checking them and make sure that they are going to the toliet on a reg base and also check the colour of the poo. It also could be caused by the fact that she might have an egg coming so the poos are always bigger if this is the case. I would add extra calcuim to the water (or even if you feel up to it a few drops on the beak) and just keep and eye on her. Warmth is also something that will not go astray. Good luck and keep us updated.
  9. If this helps in the future (as looking at the dates we have missed this window) but I have always been told that you have about 10 days after the egg is laid where it is a nothing egg. Once the hen starts to incubate then the chick starts to form. It makes me feel better about taking the eggs off a hen if I know that they are under 10 days old as there is no chick growing in the egg and it will not grow unless the hen starts to incubate. I have candled eggs and until she starts to incubate I can't see anything in them so this is my window to do something in. On a lovebird forum that I am a member of, the members will take the day old egg and boil it, this will stop anything from forming in the egg and means you can put the egg back with the mother and let her sit on them till she abandons them. They also suggested shaking but then one of the members had a shaken egg that hatched and the baby was deformed so now they recommend boiling. Also another great thing about boiling is that if the egg smashes then it is not as messy and also I have cracked an egg that was not fertile after then hen had been sitting on it for almost 3 weeks and my poor breeding room took two days for the smell to go away! I have a hen that likes to go back to lay as soon as her clutch has left the nest box, if we miss the window then we find a change of cage and she stops (she may lay off the perch but this has only happened once), I also pull her inside and shorten her hours of light so that she thinks it's winter and the drive to lay and hatch young is not as strong. I hope this helps
  10. THE BUDGIE SONG (Williamson) John Williamson - 1986 Well it cost me thirty bucks to fix my budgie, When the little blighter only cost me five. The veterinary surgeon saw me coming, But I had to keep my feathered friend alive; He was shaking on his perch, the kids were crying, The family gathered round his little cage. I said I think it's time we got a new one, That's when the family went into a rage. Oh, the waiting room ponged like a rat house, With heartworms and lungworms and lice. And a Persian had her eye on the shoebox, I suppose she thought our budgie might be nice. Well the bird **** on the veterinary surgeon, I heard him say the dirty little chick. Guess he wondered why I didn't use my brains And hit him over the head with a brick. CHORUS: Oh antibiotics for his colour, Two drops a day on his beak. Some powder on the nose for his feathers And clean out his cage twice a week. Well it cost me thirty bucks to fix my budgie When the little blighter only cost me five And the bludger wakes me early in the morning, It's got me puzzled how he survives. One night I'll feed him to the tom cat. Instead of worrying about him when we go away. No-one wants to feed a shitty budgie, When everyone's on holiday. REPEAT CHORUS
  11. $2 shop I got little plastic soy sause dishes for 50c each and each cage gets one or two of those in them, they are also dishwasher safe

I hate to put a dampner on this sweet story, but Mozart's Concerto No. 21 in C Major is about 30 min long not 6 1/2 mins long it is also not a solo piece. (normally played with a full orchestra or at the very least a second piano) He went from pianissimo to fortissimo, from allegro to virtuoso whoever wrote this needs to go back and study their musically meanings. I think this is a hoax e-mail running off the story that Bob Richards put up about a football player with a blind father who overcame his inability to play football and score a touchdown just after his father had died. (I also think this story was made into a song) Also if you look at the list of names of those killed in the bombing only 3 Roberts appear and none of them seem to have been in foster care or played the piano. Sweet story but complete hoax sorry.
  18. In our club we have mentoring programs and for some reason i think JT7 is one of Jimmys guys but will check with Pam tonight for you. If it is it would have come from Jimmy stock and he has some great Lut's if you get the right bloodline

  22. Jimmy Pippi does not look like your wife at all (who can I say is STUNNING! how on earth did you get her to agree to marry you cause man she is pretty) anyway pippi looks more like a greek or Itialian boy (but shhhhh don't tell him I said that)
  23. Pippi I think most of the bird sold on the weekend had coded ring if memory serves me right but I could be wrong
  24. Oh I agree whoever treated the bird should get the compo payout. But most Judges and the like do not know that place like Lort Smith and Lost Dogs Home and the 100s of other not for profit shelter need the compo as much as the RSPCA.
  25. Lort Smith also go money out of this. He had to pay a $500 fine to the RSPCA but also had to pay the Bill for treating the Animal at the Lort Smith. It's normal for people to get fined and have to pay the RSPCA but if they also have to pay for the treatment then this goes to which ever clinic treated the animal. The article does not read well and first time I read it I thought that he only had to give money to the RSPCA I know a lady who works for the Lort Smith and she told me that he has to pay the birds medical expenses.
