1. Yeah i am saving for that one as well MB. Good luck splat looking forward to pictures
2. Watching a movie and both my dogs look up and start to growl my sister and I looked at each other and then the house started to shake, Elmo and Charlie started screaming then I could hear the guys outside flying around the avairy and the guys in the breeding room all looked shocked. I think I might lose one of the cocks and a few hens look a little stunned leaving their light on, called Pip his birds also freaked then found out online that it was a EQ, I thought something might have exploded as we heared the fire trucks just after the shake

LOL thanks for that
4. All of the above have hapened to me!
5. I love wet birds, Half my guys in my avairy will go to ground when i water them the others will sit there with their heads up bobbing away!
6. You would be suprised how much this happens. The last lady that rented our flat sent us this 5 page document on her two birds. She even said that if need be she should keep them confided to the cage so they did not cause any distruction. We where like... "whatever can I meet your birds?" But she had been knocked back a few times because of her ying and yang. (two of the best behaved Budgies I have ever met!) We also had a lady a while back who had a few birds in a FLight cage they where pretty much wild and where not let out of the cage and again she got knocked back by a few people before she rented off us. krosp - if you wrote it on the application they can't change their mind now! Congrats can't wait to see pictures of your new "cage" and comso now home!
7. Elmo is a close rung King Parrot. I spoke to a few people from the club and they have given me some idea. The President is currently stepping down due to health issues so they pretty much said "can you sort it out and if you get in trouble then we can look at it" I know they mean well but our Club has some issues at the moment but it should all work out. I rang the manager today and asked if I could fax through the proposed form for my audit of birds which I did and he rang me back and said "WOW that is a lot of information you are providing us with." I said that I wanted to cover all bases. Also in my cover letter I will be stating council by laws which state. Canary, Finches, Budgies, Love Birds and bird of equivalent size - no cap and no permit required if being used for breeding and exhibiting the animals. Cockatiels and birds of equivalent size - no more then 4 breeding birds to be kept at any one time without written permission All Other Birds - no more then 2 breeding birds to be kept at any one time without written permission. Racing Pigeon - no more then 60 to be kept at any one time without written permission Eatable birds / poultry - not more then 10 to be kept at any one time without written permission. My Budgies I will be fine as I have less then 60 and they are breeding for showing, my love birds I only have two, 4 elegant, 3 green cheeks (hoping to be 4 and they are the breeding birds so within the regs), 1 Quaker and 1 King Parrot. I am thinking I should be fine. However I just found out that the letter was a blanket drop to everyone, even my neighbors who do not own birds got it so maybe if I shut up and didn't say anything it would be for the best
8. I have a hen and a cock that where really tame and then I put them down to breed, they still every now and then want a cuddle and she is not that big on getting out of the nest box when I check but they are no where near as tame now. However I love the fact that I can pretty much do anything with the box and they just ignore me when other birds I have get really flighty when I put my hand in the box to change the feed or water. Try and tame him down now and see how you go with the entire flock, even if you just get them eating out of your hand it will make a huge difference when you go to breed with them
9. Thanks for the Dr Nat. A friend in the states went throught the same thing and is e-mailing me the spreadsheet she had to fill out which gives them more then enough information. I have already requested from the DSE information on keeping a King Parrot. The Lady I spoke to was shocked that they told me that. She is going to send a letter to me from them confirming that I am a paid up License holder and that it is legal for me to own Elmo. She also was going to put some information in that they have about trying to rehabilite and release handtamed birds and how this is 9 times out of 10 does not work and how they have no legal or moral objects to me keeping Elmo as a native. She said they have hit this alot in the last few months so hopefully that will help. Another friend from the Budgie Club hit the same issues and she said to over information them. Make sure you give every possible deatil about each bird right down to sex and mutation, age and remaining breeding years and plan for the bird. She said just make sure it is very clear that you only have X amount of birds but give them lots of info it will look better so Pip and I are going to do that this weekend. I am not going to list un weaned chicks outside of Charlie my Quaker. I have also been told to send Photos and outline my plan to decrease the rat and mouse population. I figure if I send them a HUGE pack with lots of information on each bird that they will leave me alone. I am also not going to list my birds that I am selling over the weekend.
10. http://www.birdmadjohn.com/Broodersforsale.html This is a great brooder and I know lots of people who have copied the idea
11. Thanks guys will have a chat to everyone that I know and hope this is sorted quickly

Hi and welcome
13. One of the issues with Brooders is that as the temp changes in the room the brooder is in the temp changes within it. You need to get a themostate that way if it gets to warm the lights turn off and the brooder cools down also if it gets to cold the light goes on and the tmep goes up. Sort of like a Lizard enclosure. This is one o the biggest issues with brooders you run the risk of the chicks getting cold or to hot.
14. Oh don't tell me things like that Daz. Well I have sold 3 green cheeks today so that is 3 less birds on my list.
15. Thanks for that Kaz gives me hope that they will not know what to do with the list and just let me go unless I get a complaint. I was planning on downsizing anyway so this will just speed up the process
16. My Local Council has requested that I send them a letter with the Breed, Ring Number and Name of every single one of my birds. I tried to explain that my Budgies don't all have names but that did not seem to matter to them. I also told them that it was hard to put an exact number on it as I have two nests at the moment ready to hatch and I am looking at selling about 20 Budgies and purchasing more. They also questioned Elmo as he is a native and I am not allowed to have a native, I di explain that I had a lisence and he is a captive breed and rasied bird but again they where like but you are not allowed to keep a native. ARGHHHHH Stupid people, and then when I mentioned my Green Cheeks they did not know what they where and asked me if they where allowed to be kept in this country... huh? Just wait you guys are animal control you should know these things. So now I have to write a realy really long list and list everything on it. I figure that those that I am planning on getting rid of I will just not list but still this is a HUGE job and I am really not happy about it. They have not even recieved a complaint about me they are just cracking down on the number of birds that someone can keep.
17. Good start only issue is the temp, how can you maintain it?
18. no it's more of a wease
19. Thanks guys. I have treated him with Ivermitin so i guess i will just keep an eye on him. How offen can you treat them without over treating them?
20. See he just needed to settle. Don't worry if you don't see him drink, I have never seen Harley drink in like 8 years!
21. okay first off I have taken the Cock to an avain vet and she told me that he was sucking air and to keep an eye on him and it was not something to really worry about. We have a young cock on his second clutch. First clutch was fine no issues. This time around however yesterday I went out and one side of his body is about three times as big as it should be, fearing a tumour I caught him and noticed that it felt like it was full of air, he was a bit weezy and also has some discharge over his cere. A little while later he was back to normal size, and then again he blew up. Saw the vet, she did not seem overally worried and said to just keep an eye on him. Anyone have any clue what causes this? Last night a final check he was all blown up again, and then today at wake up he was back to normal. His hen is currently feeding 4 chicks, they get seed, veggies, oats and leafy greens. They have access to cuttle fish and an charcol bell. I am a little lost as to what to do. Doing some research the dreaded word cankers came up but outside of what I have said above he seems in perfect health, he has good body condition and is active. I put some ivermetin on him in case it was air sac mites and I figured that it could not hurt but with no direction from the vet I am confused as to what to do next. I really don't want to lose him as he is one of the best cocks I have.
22. I little background on this guy, I know he has been in the pet shop for about 3 or 4 weeks, he also was a "free range" budgie as in he was not kept in the cages with the other birds but allowed to wonder the bird room. he may not understand the confines of the cage. Kaz - if he has kept the same mix that Ivan sold them it is what I feed my guys and one of the best mixes i have found, they leave nothing and eat everything and will be the same mix he has been on for the past few weeks. Hope he is looking better, he will settle.
23. Holly's first bub we gelded and we are keeping as a player for brices son. The new filly we will keep and see what to do with her. I need to get out and get some pictures over the next few weeks. I think i had some of Spike but not sure when they are.
24. Hey where you the little guy that was in there yesterday and Ivan was squirting this little one with water? I was there talking to him about Love Birds. He was getting preened by the sacley breast lorrie. okay first thing first stop panicing. Second they might take a few days to settle in, he has gone from a VERY noisey and active room to somewhere quiet. Remember birds in the wild make noise when it is safe and are quiet when they are hiding. Try putting a radio on or just going in and talking to him softly. I am going to PM my deatils so if you are worried I can come have a look at him. Elmo my King Parrot (I also got from Burwood Birds and Pets) took 2 days before he ate anything. You might also want to hand dome silver beet in his cage as the colour may attract him. Let us know how you go.
